Is Speedway Too Expensive Now ?
spanner47 replied to Super Blue's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
But if you asked, i reckon the majority of fans want it over asap as this time of year.I dont want to stand around in the cold for over 2 hours, i dont mind in the summer, but in March/April and late Sept/Oct, i just want see 15 heats and get home. But some want to make a night of it, you'll never please everyone. Like most fans of the 70's, i loved the Champion of the evening, it sometimes produced the best racing of the night, but where's the money going to come from to pay the riders? Luckily Chris listens to people, and he knows in cold weather most of us want a quick interval, then get home!! -
No chip on my shoulder Sir/Madam. But i reckon the Chapmans must be thinking of getting out. They dont want their Stadium empty, if they were back where they belong, there'd be big crowds until the end of the Month, play/offs, cup s/f's-finals. But the place is shut and they aren't earning any money. Doesn't need an accountant or brain surgeon to work out what league they'd be better off in, does it?? And from a purely selfish point of view, i want a Premier league with Ipswich, Kings Lynn and (if it ever happens) Norwich fighting it out for East Anglian supremacy.

I'd gladly pay £20 to watch Nicki, Emil etc, but they diluted the Elite League, and now there's talk of doing the same with the Premier League. If they do bring 2 National Legaue riders per team in, then they should at least switch to the Swedish system and let them ride each other twice. But the fans wont come back while they can get their fix on Sky. Sky is killing Speedway as a spectator Sport, why stand in crap stadia when you can watch it on the box. Then you see meetings from poorly prepared tracks, and this just makes sure these fans wont fork out to go. I feel i get value for money at Ipswich, i've been every week since the track changes, before that, i went 4/5 times a season, it was crap then, but now it's good. -
And you dont think it might have been tongue in cheek. About time Dak started getting maximums, shame it's too late for the League, hopefully he can get another in an important meeting. As for whats going on at Ippo? Everythings fine ta, unlike over the border at compost corner, not enough meetings, cant compete with the big boys, the only way they'll stay in the dreadfully diluted League is, if the BSPA give them another huge bung.

Fully expected an awful crowd tonight, was surprised by how many were there, certainly above (or around) break even figure. Cant see many tracks managing this for the "failures" cup. Allready looking forward to next Good Friday when we renew our rivalry with KL.

And also we got 5-1's in Heats 12 & 14 AGAIN, all thanks to our well balanced side. We've certainly had more successes in these 2 heats, than total failures in 13 & 15. -

It would be if this was a pointless league meeting, but as it's cup S/F we've got to go with our strongest possible side. Hopefully one of our lads will be able to beat Rene this time, i dont think we've managed to do this so far this season. -
Yes, Leigh was brilliant again tonight. Great to see the deadbeats get a 5-1 in ht15, but those 2 cant keep carrying the Aussies. But at least tonight made sure of one thing, Leigh and Morten will be the first 2 signed up for next year. Rohan appears to have lost the art of gating, and please pease please Chris, get Taylor down to the quacks and get him a sicknote before the S/F's. It'll be hard enough with a full side to beat either of those, but there's no way we can keep carrying Taylor.

Nobody likes this sort of thing, but i reckon most riders would have done the same thing in a close meeting. Anyway, 90-89 to the Witches, lets hope for the same in December when we ride the S/F. -

Very nice of Edinburgh to make the effort to ride us. When's the cup S/F?? I'm being a bit unfair, i dont blame them for stringing it out when they've got injured riders, but if the S/F in the 3rd week of October gets rained off, when will the final be? Anyway, good luck to the lads tonight, not expecting much though. -

Maybe nobody wants to start one, as soon as it's up we only get the usual crap from the troll. Once the moderators do as they said they would do and ban trolls, then more people might like to put threads on here. -
With our play off hopes almost over (based on the current merit table), we've just got to hope that Taylor can get back his fitness and confidence before our cup s/f's. We're certainly capable of beating most teams over 2 legs with a full side, but it's almost impossible to replace Cam, and we cant carry Taylor as well.

Moderation on this forum?? We were told when the forum came back that trolls would be banned, there's no sign of that happening. I only go on one other forum (not speedway related), but a troll like aljerk wouldn't last five minutes, they have moderation, and dont suffer idiots ruining the forum for other users. -

Fair enough. I just assumed if you've only got a 7 month window to earn money, you wouldn't be out of the country when you could be missing guest bookings etc. Seems strange to me, obviously Premier league riders are a lot wealthier that i thought. -

When was the last time Premier league riders went on holiday in the summer? There's no 12 day gap next week, why cant they come to Foxhall next thursday? Then comfortably get back for Matts meeting on the Friday. They should be FORCED to ride us next week!!! -

Great performance from our deadbeat journeyman last night. The troll has been slagging our deadbeat journeymen off and praising the 4 young Aussies all season. Now it's time for the 4 young Aussies to get scoring again. We've still got 2 cup s/f to look forward to, but we cant rely on our deadbeat journeymen to get all the points. -

Does it really matter who the captain is? All he does is have a toss at 19-30ish. If the riders want advice they'll ask Chris, as he's forgotten more than most of them will ever know. Like most Witches fans, i'm glad to see Taylor back, at least when he's at the start the fans will feel they've got a chance, unlike Doolan who has looked awful on far too many occasions. -

Thats what i thought, but as Doolan has gone, maybe somebody who started it was putting 2+2 together and making 5. -

If the rumours at Mildenhall this afternoon are to be believed, Klindt is replacing him. That'll do for me. -
Davey Watt And Ryan Sullivan
spanner47 replied to LagutaRacingFan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
More and more riders aren't bothering to practice these days, the rest of the Aussie team were in the area, Ryan would have had a 4 hour drive to get there, he obviously thought whats the point. I'm not a fan of Ryan or Davey, but if the Aussies wanted to win this thing, they should have picked their strongest team available, they didn't. Maybe they thought team spirit would get them more points than having the best riders, thats their choice, but i would always pick the best riders if i wanted to win something. I wouldn't call Ryan a disruptive influence, he's jusy not as matey as the rest. -
Davey Watt And Ryan Sullivan
spanner47 replied to LagutaRacingFan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I also remember this, he didn't refuse to ride from memory, he refused to go for a pointless practice and was then dropped from the team. At the time he was as quick as anybody in the Aussie team around Polish tracks, and he thought practice wasn't worth it. If the Aussies wanted to win the SWC they should have picked the best riders, they didn't. If the SWC was on a smaller track i wouldn't pick Ryan in a million years, but there's no doubting his ability on the big tracks. But with the Aussie team, it's all about being one of the crowd, Ryan isn't one of the lads, and they would rather lose the world cup than admit they're wrong. -

Please could you tell us where you go to school? They should be reported for not teaching their pupils simple maths, when will you join the rest of us in the real world. -

You really are in need of some fact and reality in your fantasy world. Duggo openly admits he throws £50.000 a year trying to keep Lakeside competitive, yet you seem to think that this sort of money would last for years. Back to our underperforming riders, i dont see that practice afterwards is that much help, but as Jules says, at least it shows the fans that they're trying. I know they cant have a proper practice before the start, but surely they could practice starts somewhere. Last week when Doolan crawled out of the start in his 1st race it was embarrassing. All you'd need is 2 stakes in the ground, a bit of elastic and a stopwatch, time the riders over 50yards (if you could find 50yards of flat ground), had we done that, then when Doolan was timed much slower than the rest, that would have given time to change his set-up. Seems simple to me.
