  1. Even though people seem to think Glasgow could afford to go Elite , I cant see it being viable . We have Edinburgh , Berwick , Workington and Newcastle , all within two to three hours drive away and meetings against those clubs always get a decent away following turning up at Ashfield . Belle Vue would be our local derby in the Elite League
  2. On paper maybe , but if the two reserves continue where they left off in their first NL season , then who knows what might happen . Too be honest every side looks much of a muchness so far . If Newcastle sign the right rider to complete their team they could be contenders even if they look weak at reserve . With Kasper Lykke starting at reserve , Rye House look solid as do Workington . Will Simon Stead come back as good as ever from his injury , will Charlie Gjedde ? That will determine where Sheffield and Plymouth finish . Will Jonas Andersen build on his debut season at Redcar ? Will Berwick's team of veterans have one more season in them ? Will Peterboorough pull a number 1 out of the bag from somewhere ? Or will it end up another domestic squabble between Glasgow and Edinburgh again ? Agreed Scunthorpe probably look the weakest septet , but the side I like the look of most is Ipswich , Danny King is a superb number 1 and if James Serjeant continues the progress he showed with us last year , Ipswich will be contenders at last . For what it's worth I think Ipswich Workington Newcastle Glasgow Rye House Edinburgh Redcar Plymouth Somerset Sheffield Peterborough Berwick Scunthorpe
  3. Yes I would be surprised if the Monarchs didn't join Scotland's big club in the play offs
  4. Not any longer , the day of the smug is coming to an end
  5. About what ? Anyway sports fans , I am a wee teensy bit pissed tonight . We've got hunners and hunners of money apparently , sooooooooooooooooooooo why not become a Tiger if yer good enough . Barker might have went to Peterborough , Worrall might have went to geordieland .................but once the Wonga started to fly ....................they are Tiggers and we are going to be awesome next year , so get it round you Edinburgh
  6. At least that is sensible , I've long thought that foreign riders coming in on a 5 point average shouldn't be given an average that dips below that .
  7. Going to be a long three months until we get underway methinks . The team has been named , so we've discussed that , us and that other mob have been having wee pots at each other , now we're onto Buckfast .
  8. Would agree with that , though it seems the type of track that you really need to ride regularly to be adept at it . Riders who become home specialists while riding for the Monarchs become less effective when they move clubs and return with their new side .
  9. Yes I remember that , that was his speciality , winding up the opposition . But that added to the occasion
  10. I'll get the one with Shane Parker waving at him as he flies past him at Ashfield
  11. You can never have too much controversy in a Scottish derby , bring it on And I believe Jimmy Culbert might be eligible
  12. First I've heard of that rule , not doubting you , but it's incredible how many wee things like that are in the rule book Oh yes , he might not be the rider he once was , but we love to have a Monarchs bogeyman to boo . Fish is up there with Brett and Deek
  13. Ok explain it to me , why does Max get a reduction ?
  14. Dont see why Rebels fans are a bit wary , by miles they look to have signed the best NL 3 pointer and Wilson Dean looks to have bags of potential . This looks a pretty exciting looking side
  15. He's married to Colin Caffrey's daughter now , so whether that allows him ( having a British wife ) to be the 3 pointer , I don't know . At his best he would have been better than the average 3 pointer , but he had a very bad injury and has been out of the saddle for a while . So who knows
  16. Terry Kelly was one I used to look forward to seeing whenever Workington came to Paisley or Coatbridge in the mid seventies . He was done when he eventually became a Tiger , but when he was at Workington he was a decent rider and was full of fun . And he had a temper too as I witnessed him lose it one night at Paisley . But most of the time his antics were light hearted and added to the enjoyment of the speedway
  17. Despite all the people having a wee dig at our side , I'm perfectly happy with it . We have a nine point man at number one and three supporting heat leaders all capable of improving on their starting average . Aaron was our rider of the season last year and I expect him to carry on where he left off . Ben Barker and Richie Worrall are far better riders than their averages suggest and both ride Ashfield well . As for the three other lads , Garcia and Lunna have only had one season over here , so who knows what kind of improvement might be in them and Danny Ayres seems to be a late starter at speedway , but his job is to beat the opposition number 7 rider , if he can do that on a regular basis , then all well and good .
  18. The point was made earlier in this thread about the admission price at Glasgow being dropped to £15 last season making the increase for 2016 to £17-50 all the more eye watering . But what do we do ? We love our speedway , so there's no alternative but to pay the hike .
  19. Ok , I don't read Faceache , so fair enough , we will know the final three
  20. That's fair comment . But the general consensus from the Speedway attending public , on various threads on the Speedway discussions section , is that speedway is too expensive for the level of entertainment on offer , a £2-50 hike just confirms that view . I paid £17 to get into Kings Lynn last season , is it possible we could be on par or even more expensive than some Elite League venues in 2016 ?
