  1. Great couple of speedway meetings. It was a shame Gary's bike expired entering the third bend of the final lap, but that's Speedway. So much to enthuse about today - great to see young riders taking their first win or first paid win And Tom Young was just sensational. All the best Rob
  2. Nicki was top entertainment last night, including comedy tash. All the best Rob
  3. Yep, great to be able to travel up knowing that the sun is out for the whole day. Hope a lot of people take advantage of the offer to see 30 heats of speedway for just £14 today. All the best Rob
  4. That was a major problem last night. Maybe they need a referee as one of the studio guests, who can clarify the rules in such cases. Last night, the rules were applied perfectly, but because the wrong information was given on Sky, many fans were confused. Anyway, let's get away from that and say what a great Grand Prix it was. There have been some shockers at Ullievi in the past decade, but last night's meeting was a classic. All the best Rob
  5. The rule has been the same for nealry 40 years, and is perfectly clear... Craig Ackroyd applied that rule as it should be today. All the best Rob
  6. Cheers Neil - just proves what I was saying. Spot on refereeing from Craig Ackroyd. All the best Rob
  7. He doesn't have to. There's so many volumes of the FIM rulebook for me to find it tonight, but it's all in there. As long as the race is completed by at least one competitor, then the ref can award the race based on the positions at the time of the incident. I'm surprised you're taking so long to latch onto this one; you're normally very quick to assimilate the rules. All the best Rob
  8. I guess it is similar. The difference at FIM level is that at least one rider has to complete the race before it is stopped. The current rules came about following a very controversial incident in the 1973 World Final, which denied Zenon Plech a place in the run-off for first place. All the best Rob
  9. But the race wasn't stopped mate. All the best Rob
  10. There are 12 volumes of the FIM rulebook (I won them in a quiz) and such an eventuality is covered. Basically if one (or more) riders have completed the race, then the ref can award the positions based on the positions at the time of the incident. That's waht happened tonight. I wish the SKy TV crew knew the rules, and then there wouldn't be all the confusion on here. All the best Rob
  11. I don't think the race was stopped. All the best Rob
  12. Vog, I hope the Potters do have a good season, it was a shame when you fell away at the business end last season and ended up with nothing. Birks and Worrall are a great spearhead, although they often are not going to be available due to other commitments. It will be interesting to see how Stoke go once Reade moves up into the top five, Back onto topic, and really looking forward to tomorrow's double-header at Sunny Scunny. All the best Rob Jason King and Steve Worrall were in the start of season team, which was always supposed to have a couple of more expereicned guys at the top to help out the likes of Max Clegg, Danny Philipps and Oliver Greenwood. Oliver is already out injured (will be back soon), and Tommy Fenwick has also been given outings for the Saints. Also Simon Allen was used at Stoke, while Adam Kirby (Stoke) and Martin Wrathall (on Sunday) have been No. 8 for the Saints. So plenty of guys from the Amateur meetings / training schools in the mix. But it's necessary to have more experienced guys there at the same time, the National League is both a competitive league AND a training ground at the same time. All the best Rob
  13. It is all hindsight. But the Stoke side I saw in the second leg did not look much like potential league champions. Maybe they just had a bad day and fair enough that they were missing Richie Worrall, but the Potters need to ride much better when they ride Dudley or Mildenhall. All the best Rob
  14. Not so sure about Stoke - the Scunthorpe Saints would have knocked them out of the cup with a full-strength team. Dudley look much stronger. All the best Rob
  15. Nowt wrong with the make-up of the Dudley team. The third tier is always a compromise between standalone teams and second teams. Although they operate at Wolves, Dudley are in effective, a standalone team, so they are in it to win it, as opposed to bring in young talent. Having said that, their team contains plenty of talented younsters. Dudley do appear to be the strongest team in the league at the moment (well that will be the case come the play-offs is a different matter). There's nothing wrong with that, it makes them attractive visitors and I'm looking forward to seeing the match on Sunday, to see if the Saints can topple the championship favourites. It won't be easy with Steve, Adam and Oliver all missing, but let's see what happens. As long as the racing is good, that's the main thing. All the best Rob
  16. Oxford lost 26-67 at Newport in 2005, and yet we were still league champs come the end of the season. One swallow does not make a season... All the best Rob
  17. SAINTS TAKE CENTRE STAGE WITH the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions away at Plymouth on Friday, it’s the turn of the Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints to take centre stage at the Eddie Wright Raceway this weekend. On Sunday afternoon (3pm), the Saints entertain both the King’s Lynn Young Stars and the Dudley Heathens in a double-header. The price for the National League double header is the same as a single Premier League meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Therefore it will cost just £14 for an adult to see 30 heats of action on Sunday afternoon. A large number of supporters from Dudley are expected, while the Scorpions management are hopeful that the value-for-money admission prices on offer will also tempt other fans from across the country. Jerran Hart will still ride for the Saints as their No.1 for the next few weeks, despite finding himself being left out of the Premier League Scorpions, to make way for the returning Tom Armstrong. Saints boss Stuart Parnaby said: “Obviously Jerran is very disappointed to have lost his team place with the Scorpions. “But I’ve told him that this is the time he needs to really knuckle down and prove himself, and show he should be in a Premier League side. “Some good scores for the Saints in the coming weeks will act as a reminder to Premier League clubs that he is still very much available to ride in that league. “Jerran could have taken the easy way out and said that, as he wasn’t riding for the Scorpions, he wouldn’t ride for the Saints either. He hasn’t done that, and I hope his reward is a Premier League place soon.” The Saints will be without injury victims Oliver Greenwood and Adam Wrathall on Sunday, while Steve Worrall is also missing, as he is in international action in the World Under-21 Team Cup semi-final at Lakeside. Rider replacement will be utilised for Worrall, while Tommy Fenwick - who battled impressively for three points for the Saints at Stoke in the second leg of the Knockout Cup - will receive another opportunity to shine for the Saints. “Tommy reminds me of Richie Worrall from a couple of years ago”, commented Parnaby. “He wants to get out there and ride the bike, and he has no fear. “Tommy actually used to ride Motocross along with Richie. I know that Ian Worrall (the father of Richie and Steve) rates Tommy very highly.” The Saints will use Martin Wrathall, the older brother of Adam, at No. 8 on Sunday. “You never know what is going to happen during a double-header”, explained Parnaby. “We need to have enough cover just in case. We’re grateful that Martin is willing to travel over to be No. 8. “Adam is also going to be there on Sunday to cheer on the lads. Adam is probably around a month from returning – the plaster is on his arm is due to come off in about three weeks. “Meanwhile Oliver Greenwood is getting closer to returning to action for the Saints, well I say returning, but he hasn’t actually rode for us this year, because he got injured at Stoke before our first fixture. “Oliver has had the go-ahead from a sports doctor in Birmingham to start swimming again, which means he can start building his arm muscles back up. And then he has another appointment with a consultant on Monday to look at his collarbone, when hopefully he will be told that he can start racing again.” Parnaby admits that Sunday’s two meetings represent a tough challenge for the Saints. “Both Dudley and King’s Lynn are amongst the favourites to win the league this year, so both meetings on Sunday will be tough. “But we always head into our home meetings with the attitude to win them. Tom Young has been in superb form so far this season, and we’ll be looking for him to back up our top two, Jerran (Hart) and Gary (Irving). “We won’t put any pressure on Max Clegg and Danny Phillips, but this is a great opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition. “I’m sure we will have two cracking meetings on Sunday afternoon”, concluded Parnaby. National League Double Header Admission Prices: Adult: £14.00 Student/OAP: £12.00 Child (10 - 16): £5.00 Child (0 - 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £33 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-16) Match Programme: £1.00 Teams for Sunday: Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints: 1. Jerran Hart, 2. Tommy Fenwick, 3. Steve Worrall R/R, 4. Tom Young, 5. Gary Irving, 6. Danny Phillips, 7. Max Clegg, 8. Martin Wrathall. King’s Lynn Young Stars (probable): 1. James Cockle, 2. Brendan Johnson, 3. Lewis Kerr, 4. Adam Lowe, 5. Jake Knight, 6. Tom Stokes, 7. Scott Campos. Dudley Heathens: 1. Adam Roynon, 2. James White Williams, 3. Tom Perry, 4. Byron Bekker, 5. 18. Ah, I see. I only speak OED old boy All the best Rob
  19. What's that in English? EDIT: Ah sorry see you're answered already. All the best Rob
  20. What happened to Richie Worrall in the run-off for first place. What does u mean? All the best Rob
  21. Of the Brits, Richie Worrall through, Steve Worrall and Stefan Nielsen out, but what of Tom Perry. No run-off for 7th place, but one for 9th, does that mean it's the top 8 through, and Perry has qualified? All the best Rob
  22. Here's a report for this meeting from the Scunny viewpoint. It completed an enjoyable early evening's racing, although the news that people were hit with as racing was completed (Lee Richardson's accident in Poland), put a huge dampener on proceedings. STOKE SPITFIRES 16 SCUNTHORPE STAGS 19 (MIDLAND DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE) SCUNTHORPE STAGS picked up a fine 19-16 win in a Midland Development League match that took place in the second half at Stoke on Sunday evening. The key to the Stags’ success was consistent scoring. The Stags provided just two of the six race winners, but conversely they had just two last places. The opening race saw Shaun Tedham lead home Tommy Fenwick, while Lloyd Barrett fell in third place and Simon Allan came through to take the third-placed point. Heat 2 saw two riders take a tumble on the third bend. Jamie Collins slid off on the entry to the turn, and then, independently, Max Clegg fell just a little further around the bend. Collins managed to remount, but Clegg was unable to, and the race was stopped with Clegg’s exclusion. Ross Walter, who had been leading at the time of the stoppage, made no mistakes to win the re-run from Adam Kirby (pictured). An eventful Heat 3 saw the Stags take a 5-0. At the first time of asking, the Spitfires held a 4-2, but then race-leader Collins fell on the third bend, also bringing down team-mate Tedham. With Collins excluded, the re-run saw Adam Kirby lead, but second-placed Tedham fell off in pursuit on the third lap. The race was then awarded as a 5-0 to Kirby and Allan. Walter & Barrett jetted out of the gate for the Spitfires in Heat 4, but Clegg moved inside Barrett on the fourth bend of lap 2 to take second place and restrict the Spitfires to a 4-2. Fenwick, having taken six rides in the previous KO Cup match, had a bike which was very down on power and didn’t complete the final circuit. Again it was the Spitfires who gated in Heat 5, but Kirby moved inside Barrett down the back straight, and Barrett then slid off on the third turn. Tedham won the race, and the 3-3 meant the Stags led 15-14 going into the final race. In Heat 6, Barrett slid off around the first two turns, to leave three riders. Walter looked set to complete a maximum, but Clegg pounced down the back straight of the third lap, moving inside Walter, as the 15-year-old Stag finished his evening in style. Adam Kirby ended up as top scorer for the Stags with a fine 7-point tally. Simon Allan (with Tero Aarnio in his corner) overcame a tough and bruising time in the KOC encounter, with three steady rides in the MDL match and a well-deserved paid 7 score. Max Clegg produced a fabulous ride in Heat 6 to secure victory for the Stags, while Tommy Fenwick (impressive in the KOC match) clearly had machinery issues towards the end of an evening that saw him take nine rides in total. Nevertheless, his 3 points made the difference between winning and losing. Rebecca Parnaby was team manager for the Stags, as Richard Hollingsworth was busy running the show at the coinciding amateur meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Stoke Spitfires 16 – Shaun Tedham 6 (3), Lloyd Barrett 1 (4), Ross Walter 8 (3), Jamie Collins 1 (2). Scunthorpe Stags 19 – Tommy Fenwick 3 (3), Simon Allan 4+3 (3), Adam Kirby 7 (3), Max Clegg 5 (3). 1: Tedham, Fenwick, Allan, Barrett (fell), 69.4 (3-3) (3-3). 2: (Re-run) Walter, Kirby, Collins, Clegg (fell, excluded), 68.6 (4-2) (7-5). 3: (Re-run) Kirby, Allan, Tedham (fell, excluded), Collins (fell, excluded), awarded – no time (0-5) (7-10). 4: Walter, Clegg, Barrett, Fenwick (ret), 70.0 (4-2) (11-12). 5: Tedham, Kirby, Allan, Barrett (fell), 70.1 (3-3) (14-15). 6: Clegg, Walter, Fenwick, Barrett (fell), 70.6 (2-4) (16-19). All the best Rob
  23. Good effort by the Saints with so many riders missing, but well done to Stoke. Entertaining meeting, even if it was a bit on the chilly side. All the best Rob
  24. Tommy Fenwick is certainly a Motocrosser, not sure about Simon Allan. All the best Rob
