  1. SCORPIONS OUT TO COMPLETE DERBY DOUBLE HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to complete their first-ever league double over fierce local rivals, the Sheffield Tigers, at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (7.30pm), as they look to pick up another three points to consolidate their healthy position in the Premier League table. The Scorpions picked up a fine 47-43 win at Sheffield on July 12th, their first-ever win at Owlerton against the Tigers. Team manager Richard Hollingsworth said: “It was great to go to Sheffield and win last month, but on Friday we need to finish the job and beat them around the Eddie Wright Raceway. The Tigers are struggling a bit in the league at the moment, but they are always a handful around our place, so we won’t be taking everything for granted. “I feel we owe them one, after they did the double over us in the League Cup in June, when were on the verge of the semi-finals of that competition. It would be nice to repay the compliment and complete the double over the Tigers in the Premier League. “They caught us with our pants down when they visited us in the League Cup, at a time when we were in the middle of an injury crisis and a bad run of results. “Things have changed very much since then, with the addition of Nick Morris and Gary Irving to the side. Also, with the notable exception of David Howe, we now have a fit team. “The Tigers have an excellent record around the Eddie Wright Raceway which is rather too good for my liking, and we will be looking to start to readdress that balance on Friday evening.” David Howe, after a painful attempt at a comeback, announced he was sitting out the rest of the season at last Friday’s home meeting against Leicester, to allow his injured shoulder time to recover. “We’re all gutted that David is out for the rest of the season”, admitted Hollingsworth. “He was on fire at the start of this season. He put in an untouchable display at Newcastle in April which was about the most dominant performance I’d ever seen from a Scorpion away from home. Unfortunately, just after that, his injury problems began. “We have been coping without David these last few months, and picked up fine away wins at Ipswich and Sheffield in his absence. We have a young, talented side, and we see no reason why we can’t go on winning despite being without David. “It’s far from ideal to have our No 1 missing. But, at the same time, we do have two other riders, in Josh (Auty) and Nick (Morris), who would be the No 1 at many other Premier League tracks. Plus all the rest of the team are capable of going out and winning a race at any point. “Both guests and rider replacement have proven to be a bit of a lottery. We’ve had some great guests, and also at times we’ve had guests who have scored 1 or 2 points. Likewise, rider replacement has scored a paid maximum, but it’s also scored four. We are looking to bring in a suitable replacement for David for the rest of the season; this club still has serious ambitions not only of reaching the play-offs but also winning the Premier League this season”, Hollingsworth stressed. “In the meantime, Kevin Wolbert’s Elite League average means he is now eligible to guest for the Scorpions. Kevin is a proven performer around the Eddie Wright Raceway and we will be using him against the Tigers on Friday.” The action on Friday will be concluded by a Midland Development League match between the Scunthorpe Stags and Belle Vue Colts in the second half. 2. Vaculik completely messed up the first corner. He was rightfully excluded from the re-run. So will we be going back to Terenzano in 2013? The track was appalling on Saturday evening. The worst GP round for a few years. The Grand Prix has been exciting and wide open this year, but Saturday's meeting was a big let down. Surely the track should be better than that? All the best Rob
  3. Oliver Greenwood very impressive on his first ever appearance at Smallbrook. Mark Baseby was class for the Islanders - especially his third to first dash in Heat 15. All the best Rob
  4. Jerran Hart and Steve Worrall are the top two averaged riders within the Scunny Saints declared line-up. All the best Rob Precisely. All well within the rules of the National League. All the best Rob
  5. What a bunch of sour grapes - the Saints' line-up is completely within National League rules. Yesterday, the Saints travelled without their top two, had four first year league rookies, and still picked up an away win. All the best Rob
  6. Brilliant comeback by the Saints in the final three races, taking three 5-1s to record a 46-43 victory. All the best Rob
  7. Great - will leave in around half an hour All the best Rob
  8. Any weather updates on this? All the best Rob
  9. What a brilliant fightback by the Saints to take a point. All the best Rob
  10. £5 for all adults, and free for children 16 and under. All the best Rob
  11. I wonder if Stevebrum still thinks MJJ is over-rated and failing All the best Rob
  12. Blimey, and I thought I was a bit of a miserable git at times Cracking meeting tonight, shame about all the joker shennanings - but hopefully it means the joker will be ejected through the trap door. All the best Rob
  13. Spitting at the camera was disgusting. He shoudl get a heavy fine for that. All the best Rob
  14. Well done Denmark. Woo-hoo!!! MJJ beating Holder was just brilliant All the best Rob
  15. Can I have some of what you're on please? All the best Rob
  16. You can't help but like the young Danes. All the best Rob
  17. Exactly, it's a World Championship event, so there should be no second chances. You cause a race to be stopped, you should be excluded from it. There was only rider who could be deemed as the cause of the stoppage (Fisher), he should have gone. All the best Rob
  18. So causing all three other riders to fall is not an excluable offence? Who was to blame, if not Fisher? Fisher was the cause of the stoppage. All the best Rob
  19. Dirty move by Fisher - chuck him out!! All the best Rob
  20. Maybe they could borrow a silencer or two from Eddie Kennett. All the best Rob
  21. Hi Manchesterpaul, Please could you let me know where the Scunny website shows 33-56 and I'll get it put right. As far as I can see: Match report shows 35-56: http://www.scunthorp...spx?Team=Saints Fixture list shows 35-56: http://www.scunthorp...spx?Team=Saints All the best Rob
  22. SCUNTHORPE SAINTS 35 MILDENHALL FEN TIGERS 56 (NATIONAL LEAGUE) IT PROVED to be a highly eventful evening at the Eddie Wright Raceway last night (Friday), with the Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints losing to a very powerful Mildenhall Fen Tigers outfit. The Saints were reduced to five riders, after Danny Phillips (badly bruised leg) and Tommy Fenwick (dislocated shoulder) both crashed out of the meeting, while Mildenhall’s Nathan Stoneman suffered a broken femur (leg). The Fen Tigers showed that they meant business from the off, and flew into a 10-2 lead after two races. Heat 2 was re-run after second-placed Danny Phillips fell at the first time of asking, and he took no further part in proceedings. Gary Irving and Tom Young won their opening outings in Heats 3 & 4 respectively, but a further blow for the Saints came in Heat 6, when both Steve Worrall and Tommy Fenwick (pictured right) came down on the first turn. Fenwick was also withdrawn from the meeting, while the Sain ts were left facing tracking only one rider in several races. The re-run of Heat 6 saw a high crash for Nathan Stoneman and Max Clegg (who was a replacement for Fenwick), for which Stoneman was excluded. Clegg was soon up, but Stoneman was obviously hurt. The resulting broken femur is almost certain to rule Stoneman out of the rest of the 2012 season. With former Saint (and new Scorpions’ signing) Stefan Nielsen in inspired form and only denied a maximum by a fall while leading Heat 4, it was not long before the Fen Tigers were home-and-dry. Nielsen thwarted Irving’s tactical ride in Heat 9. Saints’ Oliver Greenwood, on his return from injury, took a fine second place in Heat 14, after winning a battle with Josh Bates. Post-match quotes: Stuart Parnaby (Saints’ team manager) - “We needed everything to go right to stand any chance at all against Mildenhall, but that didn’t happen tonight. We were reduced to five riders very early on, and that’s far from ideal. “Danny’s taken a bad bang to his leg. He’s unlikely to fit for the match at Stoke (on Saturday), although we’ll see in the morning how he is feeling. “Tommy is definitely ruled out for Stoke. Tommy’s a hard lad; he’s taken all sorts of knocks doing Motocross. With a dislocated shoulder, it depends on the muscle damage regarding how quickly a rider can recover. “Oliver (Greenwood) needs track time, now he’s back from injury. He looked a different rider in his fourth outing tonight, winning a real battle for second place against Josh Bates. “Mildenhall looked very, very impressive tonight – if they ride like that for the rest of the season, they will be league champions. “But it was a real pity to see young Nathan Stoneman suffer a broken femur. I went out to see how he was, and had to turn back around. He’s going to be out for the rest of the season, and that’s such a shame for a young lad.” Full scorers: Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints 35 – Steve Worrall 5 (4), Tommy Fenwick 0 (1), Gary Irving 14 (5) (incl. 4-point tactical ride), Oliver Greenwood 2 (4), Tom Young 9+1 (5), Danny Phillips 0 (1), Max Clegg 5 (7). Mildenhall Fen Tigers 56 – Jason Garrity (guest) 11+1 (5), Joe Jacobs R/R, Lewis Blackbird 9 (5), Daniel Halsey 9+3 (5), Stefan Nielsen 14+1 (6), Nathan Stoneman 3 (2), Josh Bates 10+3 (7). 1: Nielsen, Garrity, Worrall, Fenwick, 59.38 (1-5) (1-5). 2: (Re-run twice) Stoneman, Bates, Clegg, Phillips (fell, excluded), 62.07 (1-5) (2-10). 3: Irving, Blackbird, Halsey, Greenwood (fell, remounted), 60.22 (3-3) (5-13). 4: Young, Bates, Clegg, Nielsen (fell), 61.44 (4-2) (9-15). 5: Garrity, Irving, Blackbird, Greenwood, 58.37 (2-4) (11-19). 6: (Re-run) Nielsen, Clegg, Stoneman (fell, excluded), Worrall (fell, excluded), Fenwick (fell, unable to contest re-run), no time – awarded (2-3) (13-22). 7: Young, Blackbird, Halsey (three riders only), 59.75 (3-3) (16-25). 8: Halsey, Bates, Clegg (three riders only), 60.40 (1-5) (17-30). 9: (Re-run) Nielsen, IRVING (TR), Bates, Greenwood, 58.75 (4-4) (21-34). 10: Worrall, Blackbird, Halsey, Clegg, 58.87 (3-3) (24-37). 11: Garrity, Young, Bates (three riders only), 58.13 (2-4) (26-41). 12: Irving, Blackbird, Bates, Clegg (3-3) (29-44). 13: (Re-run) Garrity, Nielsen, Worrall, Young (fell, excluded), 59.03 (1-5) (30-49). 14: Halsey, Greenwood, Bates, Clegg, 60.40 (2-4) (32-53). 15: Nielsen, Irving, Young, Garrity (ret), 58.37 (3-3) (35-56).
