  1. whole play off system is a con but no-one can complain about it now, everyone went into the season eyes open.
  2. that should the team who tops the play off qualifying table doesn't win the play off's is no big deal as everyone knew the rules as KL & rye did in 2007
  3. i disagree, Newcastle were part of the process that voted for it, so went into this season with their eyes open.
  4. im sure glasgow will be in the double header just for snapper

  7. incorrect, ask ash holloway & henning loof what happened when they got danish league experience before trying PL both got stuck with a 7pt ave as they had ridden in the "superior" league. ash could have been a 3 & henning a 5 if they had started out in their respective countries junior leagues. the assesed ave comes from the previous standard of league ridden in not for being british. if he is as good as his scores show he will make a mockery of 5pt ave anyway.
  8. the competitions if comparable in standard don't matter, a LC opponent is built to same rules as a PL opponent so for the purpose of averages PL,KOC,LC,Playoffs are no different to each other. the only thing it changes the speed at which 1 team may gain a RA for a rider. the 2 year spread is a red herring, if a rider takes time out it was not uncommon for GS averages from 2 or more seasons ago to be used under the old system.
  9. if he rides in german league he has to start in pl on a 5.
  10. i'm trying to explain in layman's terms so people can understand the principles involved, i'll leave the formulae till later, generally speaking more data points improve the average calculated but too many make the average very slow to follow form. It's a balancing act to get it right, rather than picking a seemingly arbitrary number someone should have modelled 2 or 3 years worth of green sheet data into some test case models to see what sample size looked good.
  11. you want a balance between sensitivity and accuracy, play around with sample size to taste.
  12. the variance of the average is proportional to the sample size, i.e. the more data points in the set then the increased sample size dampens the variation. but i guess you knew that... its just a question of picking the right sample size say near 3/4 of the average number of meetings a rider does per season.
  13. Off the top of my head no, but i can't see what the advantage of that using SD is against +/- the mean average. RA's are fine once one finds the sample size sweet spot that balances the responsiveness of the average moving with performance against its real value.
  14. looks like it sadly, couldn't give one of their juniors the gig?
