  1. It was 24th July 1937 and the actual programme cover is displayed in the Old Programme Gallery on the speedwayswapshop.co.uk website.
  2. There have been instances where the cancelled meetings programmes have been either dumped in a skip or returned to the printers for pulping. Don't think this happens so often now as clubs are more aware that there is a resale market for cancelled meeting progs or they re-use them for the next match with a race card insert. A few clubs are able to delay production until matchday and therefore they are never printed (e.g. Peterborough). Don't know if it was a myth, but there was a story that the 1939 World Final programme was actually printed, but was never released, as WW2 was declared immediately prior to the scheduled meeting date.

  7. Is there going to be a change in the personnel previously responsible for the marketing side then ?
  8. No wonder Brian Havelock got fed up with you, given how you conduct yourself on here..
  9. Dariusz Fliegert rode a whole season for Edinburgh on loan from Rybnik in 1992
  10. Agree, The brutal truth is that the UK is not producing a sufficient quantity of newcomers to displace the EU journeymen referred to by you. If some on here really believe that PL promoters would choose to spend more on employing an EU rider instead of a UK counterpart of at least equal ability, then they are living in internet fantasy land. Berwick have just recruited a Slovenian (Vodric) on a 5pt ave to replace their original Australian target (Allen), and expect this trend to continue, rather than a significant increase in numbers moving up from the NL.
  11. As sellers get the best prices in the open market, via eBay/Auctions, you'll be lucky to attract an uninformed seller. Apart from Felton, for the rest of your wants list, you'll probably have to bid well into thee figures, with some fetching at least £400 - £500 each.
  12. Looks like it's time that the Parliamentary Group are involved, rather than only enjoying canapes on the Westminster terrace.
  13. When was previously in the UK, under 16, Sissis rode Matty Wethers bike (i.e. 498cc) in after meeting spins at Armadale and looked good.
  14. So are you disputing Gordon Pairman's assertion that "despite his close connection to those at the top of BSPA who should know better than disclose confidential information", If not Alex Harkess, then who is your "close connection to those at the top of BSPA", or are you denying such an association ?
  15. Tigers fans are fortunate to have such altruistic benefactors, whose plans to transform the whole stadium are breathtaking. I am also impressed by their intention to encourage and develop local youth to become speedway riders. As a Monarchs fan, best wishes to the Facennas in succeeding with their vision, which should benefit Scottish Speedway overall. My reading of your response, infers that Mr Blobby is obtaining his snippets either directly or indirectly via Alex Harkess. If this is the case, then I suggest that AH should be more discreet in whom he discloses confidential information, as Mr B appears to be more leaky than Glasgow Rangers defence were on Saturday
  16. I'm surprised by the negative comments re Steve Worrall on here. Having seen him riding home & away for the Monarchs, he was a smooth performer who formed a good partnership with Max Fricke when he moved up to number 4. He is a good gater who goes about his business effectively and I would not be surprised if he raises his average further in 2015, given it appears he will be reducing his workload by no longer having NL commitments.
  17. My first foray was Old Meadowbank in 1962, and since then I reckon I've seen organised meetings at 55 UK tracks which are no longer operating :- Barrow (Park Road) Belle Vue (Hyde Road) Berwick (Berrington Lough) Birmingham (Bordesley Green) Birmingham (Perry Barr Greyhound) Boston (New Hammond Beck Road) Bradford (Odsal) Bristol (Eastville) Buxton (Stadium) Canterbury (Kingsmead) Carmarthen Coatbridge (Cliftonhill) Cowdenbeath (Central Park) Cradley Heath (Dudley Wood) Crayford (Stadium Road) Crewe (Earle Street) Edinburgh (Old Meadowbank) Edinburgh (Powderhall) Ellesmere Port (Thornton Road) Exeter (County Ground) Felton Glasgow (Blantyre Sports Stadium) Glasgow (Craighead Park, Blantyre) Glasgow (Hampden Park) Glasgow (Shawfield Stadium) Glasgow (White City) Hackney Wick (Waterden Road) Halifax (The Shay) Hull (Craven Park) Hull (The Boulevard) Isle of Wight (Smallbrook) Leicester (Blackbird Road) Linlithgow (Heathersfield) London (White City) Long Eaton (Station Road) Middlesbrough (Cleveland Park) Milton Keynes (Elfield Park) Milton Keynes (Groveway) Newport (Queensway Meadows) Newport (Somerton Park) Newtongrange (Victoria Park) Oxford (Cowley) Paisley (Love Street) Rayleigh (Weir Stadium) Reading (Smallmead) Reading (Tilehurst) Rochdale (The Athletic Grounds, Milnrow Road) Scunthorpe (Ashby Ville) Scunthorpe (Quibell Park) St Austell (Claycountry Moto Parc) Sunderland (East Boldon) Wembley (Empire Stadium) West Ham (Custom House) Weymouth (pre 1985, Wessex Stadium, Radipole Lane) Wimbledon (Plough Lane) I've watched racing at the Gyle, Edinburgh, but that was practice/training only. I know a fellow Monarchs fan who can top my list as he has also been to Barrow (Holker St), Castleford, Motherwell (the one Speedway mtg held in 1972), and the last Weymouth Track, though I don't think he ever got to Crewe..
  18. Wunderbar - looks like we will continue to blitz Ashfield with a Panzer pairing now
