  1. Lewis I'm tipping the Saints to win.....".no pressure lads, just get stuck in like you did against Dudley". I have so much faith in the youngsters who try their best every time they race." Enjoy and good luck to you all ! " ...... GO SAINTS!!!!!!!!
  2. I did expect Heathens to hammer our untested youngsters as your team looks so strong on paper. The Stars meeting was may be like a practice for our youngsters, dont forget 3 of these kids have only had one or two league meetings and I'm referring to them. Jerran and Gary can take care of any situation and to some point we are now seeing that Tom Young can. He rode brilliantly to beat your best. but when you think that 4 of these kids av amount to 12.25...come on figures ( heat points) are there for all to study and the Stars and Saints were level/even for most of the meeting. notice the scores after heat 14...43.41 in both meetings. but lady luck shone on the Heathens. I felt gutted for the Saints. Always another day though for you to either hammer us or we take a win!
  3. boston five. You asked about the crowd. As a fan who attends every meeting at the EWR I thought the crowd was quite good. What I will say is that The Young Stars gave us a harder match than the Heathens. You started off with 2 x 5.1s. after 8 hts the score was even until ht 13. The last 3 hts it was still either or to win giving us a last heat decider, and a dam good meeting. You deserved your point! I wouldn't have even minded Heathens take a point but for them to win was definately not on the cards as Scunny led all through the meeting, and had a 2 pt lead going into the last race only for Jerran to have E/F and Gary who was winning lose a chain 50mtrs from the finish line. That is pure luck! But thats speedway!
  4. Thoroughly enjoyed this meeting...first home meeting for the new Saints. Well done to all the team on their 1st win. great stuff. Some BRILL racing between the two teams. Welcome back Gary so pleased to see you in the team ( always my fav rider) you certainly didn't disappoint, still exciting as ever. Ive watched Dan Phillips in the AM meetings, he's a really good rider, he'll get going! ...don't dispair Dan its early days! Tom Young who Ive adopted being welsh lol. You was star of the show. surprised us all I think. A huge well done! Keep it up. I hope Ashley is feeling better. I see on FB that hes been in A & E overnight
  5. To Adam Wrathall......Hope you have a speed recovery!...rotten luck to have that happen in your first race, first meeting....speedway sometimes is cruel!
  6. With 3 rookies a 3.25 av rider. Adam breaking an arm in his first race left us weak to say the least. However for an away performance the youngsters handled the situation, which is what its all about for them. Hard luck to Gary falling when on a T/R. Well done Tom! Thats the first meeting for 3 riders out of the way. Onwards and upwards, Scunny youngsters will come good.......just watch!
  7. Too many foreigners in all our leagues is a problem BSPA should be looking at. Surely theres a happy medium, First and foremost we must have means of british youngsters moving through our leagues. Our kids deserve a fair playing field! SorryTim for using your thread to get my point across.
  8. Having posted on this thread days ago, then it disappeared, hey presto found it again. I cannot believe how bitter Backless appears to be against the Scunny promotion and the track. Why?.....Rob Godfrey has worked so hard to give us fans speedway after being without it for over 20 years. I never miss a meeting and as a supporter who started watching speedway in the late seventies, Ive got to say he's excelled in providing us with some of the best speedway. Take tonights meeting I didn't think it possible to have racing at the level we did. The track after weeks of rain was prepared very well and we enjoyed racing with lots of passing and very fast times. A huge well done to the track staff! Don't know which track Backless attends but if he watches better racing than we do at Scunny he's very lucky.
  9. What a shame!. We would have been in for a treat with plenty of passing. Poor Rob & Co have worked so hard down the track throughout the winter. the weather has been against them for the last month, probably too much work to undertake. Nevermind I'm over it already. we still have plenty of speedway to look forward to!
  10. An excellent post Lucifer Sam which explains everything us fans need to know. I think this is exactly what the NL should be all about, pity all teams aren't run in the same manner, having said that I know about the stand alone clubs needing to win etc. We are lucky at Scunny to have a prem side too. I love watching the youngsters and look forward, yet again to see these kids progress. Come on you SAINTS!
  11. Well I dont believe it!...Stoke you theiving lot! Must say thats put me off the N/L ...Its bad enough trying to get with this midland developement league in half time. How do you expect fans to get behind teams. When riders are all over the place.? RUBBISH!..........Are we to believe then that all N/L teams can operate a squad of riders? How come fans aren't told of any new rules, thats the least we expect. !
  12. I really don't understand this, surely Stoke cannot use Scunny's Ollie Greenwood. ( thats stupid ) he belongs to one team or the other. Its bad enough with teams having to use guests and R/R, for gods sake don't let this become a reality as new youngsters will never get started. Please dont let this happen just when we seem to be getting youngsters on the ladder!. This annoys me. I'm waiting to see Stokes 1 to 7 names also. In this weeks speedway star they have a starting team averaging 40.88?
  13. Can't help but feel sorry for Len Silver ( don't seem to be able to do anything to please fans ) Like the promotion at Scunny he's trying to give youngsters a chance and find future riders for his prem team. Now I know not everybody is like me who loves this level of racing but I have nothing but admiration for all who runs the AM meetings. Riders of all ages, I don't consider riders in their twenties old. Some start in their late teens but because of the expense and lack of training it takes a long time to get to NL level. At least Len is giving you a PL team as well. Luke Chessell is/was a Scunny asset and Ive watched him racing he's a good prospect I hope you get behind him! GO LUKE YOU SHOW EM!
  14. Rest assured these youngsters are in good hands under the guidence of Stuart Parnanby. He's brill with them. Have no fear Adam and Tom are looking very impressive at the AM meetings! Its been done before. leave it up to the Scunny crew! Its worked in the past. At least we've got young brits on the ladder to the upper leagues!.
  15. Your right Halifax disagreement is only marginal.....As far as I'm concerned all I'd like to see achieved is more brits capable of representing our country in the international competions, like it was in the 70's. I long to see a british World Champ again! Only then I believe we will get the atmospheere and crowds back. Probably wont happen in my lifetime, but I would love my grandson to experience the thrills and spills of those times when we had so many great riders.
  16. After my last post I wasn't going to post anymore on this subject as we keep going round in circles. However after catching up and reading the last couple of pages I must say there are little bits I agree with but mosty I disagree. I am a paying supporter , love the NL because these youngsters never give up and provide us with some dammed good racing at Scunny. So no way do I think I should go to these meetings free. I detect some jealousy of how Scunthorpe go about training the brits. All I can say is that we should all be thankfull that Scunny have a track that can be used 24/7 ,( most tracks its not possible ) and that Mr Godfrey, Richard any others have the energy and desire to help these kids get a chance. They all have regular day jobs and I know for a fact that they put many hours in to do this. I cannot for the life of me think why Richie and Stevie Worrall should be quoted as too good for the NL. These lads are only a couple of years into training for their chosen sport. Crickey most apprenticeships go for 4/5 years. Some of you out there want the best riders for their stand alone club because they want to win every time. now I'm not saying I disagree with that but Richie was one of the first to be snapped up by standalone Stoke. ( good luck to him ) yet some are saying he shouldn't be taking a place up. In the days that Scunny was a standalone club, we had the best 2 years ever. I have absolutely nothing against these clubs but would say that riders whos had their apprenticeship time of say 5 years are the ones who should be making way for the youngsters, however I would make an exception of an older rider to act as a coach, even a 2nd one would be acceptable. Just one other point. Not all supporters go to speedway to see the "stars" I for one don't, have never been to an Elite meeting ( Internationals yes ). I'm very happy to support whatever my club provides. lucky at Scunny because we have 2 of the 3 leagues. Sorry for the rant!
  17. Couldn't agree more Albert. Richard is some guy, great asset to the club. never ceases to amaze me how he controls the AM meetings, of course with the help of others. Every week the meetings run to schedual ( apart from the odd fall which neccessitates replacing a panel of the safety fence.) cannot irradicate that. 66 races in just over 4 hours yesterday. Another great afternoon out, just a pity it was so bloody cold! even so still enjoyed it. well done Rich and co.
  18. We keep going round and round with this subject. I don't think we'll ever get everyone of us to agree. because clubs have different needs. Team Sport in general always have a starting competative league and whatever its called, bottom, 3rd, N/L, or C/L its where riders start making a name for themselves, changing the existing format I dont think would make any difference. Its all about getting the youngsters into that first competative league, onto the ladder and climbing to the next level.
  19. Whos Scott Allen? not being funny but its not a name Ive come across and don't recall the name from the Am meetings. I see his name is down for the Saints.
  20. feelthebuzz....I see you are connected to Newport.....You'll be pleased to know Tom Young is flying around the EWR In the Am meetings, looking an excellent prospect for the Saints this year.
  21. Scunny's latest developement.....A newly built building to house an office, track shop and programme kiosk, just about completed. Mr Godfrey & Co has been busy since the season ended and I must say everything down at the EWR is looking pretty good.
  22. My opinion on a name change for N/L is; Whatever name you'd like to call it will never change the fact that...... It is the first rung to the ladder of climbing the leagues for a rider. You cannot fool supporters nor should you. I cannot for the life of me see why fans won't/don't get behind our british lads. Call the leagues 1st, 2nd and 3rd will change nothing. The point is a lot of brits are not patriotic, like they used to be in the 70s when the terraces used to be packed. I remember going to Belle Vue for International meetings to get behind Peter Collins and Chris Morton and to Halifax for K Carter. The atmosphere was brilliant everybody cheering OUR lads on. Now I go to Cardiff and the crowds cheer on for foreign riders who race for their team. OK. that brings us back to people saying " well the brits aren't good enough".....back to square one because we will not see further than our nose. We need a first league for the youngsters like we've never needed it before! Don't come back and say I'm racist because I'm not, I love the foreign riders in my team, BUT we must give our young brits a chance to get onto that first rung of that ladder and support them. For those who don't know what the racing is like, I can tell you that it is more competative and exciting than E/L these kids are fighting to break through and never give up. I love it!
  23. Brill news montie! I'm so excited at having Stevie back as a Saint. Looking forward to some superb racing when Richie, Ashley and Gary come to visit. Welcome back Stevie and good luck for 2012. .
  24. However much a promoter wants to filter riders to his senior league, It is the rider themselves who decide where they want to ride. Don't you think Scunny would have loved to have kept Tai, Josh etc.( I know I would ) I imagine its Promoters who tempt them away from their club by offering better deals. The point is that Scunny give these lads their first opportunity to get onto the ladder and thats something which no one can deny. Other NL league teams are quick to sign our riders so as far as I see it.....Its job done! and Mr Godfrey gets his just rewards in loan fees. I say keep this going Mr Godfrey its a system which has proved to be successful .At least we have a flow of youngsters on the climb up!
  25. If many of the speedway supporters who post on this thread was at Scunny to watch these youngsters progress I'm sure they would have different attitudes. Seeing is believing. Yes they may wobble at some stage. But lap after lap they soon get going and to watch how determined they are gives great pleasure. For those of you that support teams in the prem just spare a thought, check I'll bet you've got a team member who had sessions at Scunny and was wobblers for a short time. Surely this has to be the way to go. In junior leagues competing against riders of the same level won't be as good a system as the Scunny one! though I do agree it is a good start, its the competative edge of the N/L that spears the riders on. I predict both Oliver Greenwood and Dan Phillips to be Scunnies next Worralls!
