It should be up to the 'friends' to sort their own accommodation out. People are finding it difficult to get rooms, while other sit on false bookings.

The train from Newport to Cardiff back to Newport (a return ) will be about £3. A taxi from the guest house you have booked to Newport Railway Station will be £10+ one direction. Obviously if the cab is fully loaded with people it wont be too bad.

That's quite a way outside Newport. The taxi into Newport will cost about 4 times the price of the train to Cardiff.
