  1. Maybe a bit of competition is something the BSPL need to improve their game
  2. Yet Belle Vue can fit a Peter Craven Memorial in and Mildenhall can fit a Mildenhall vs Fen Tiger Select. Perhaps the IOW should put these meetings on...
  3. Gaz, fair play to you, but maybe you're flogging a dead horse in the current climate. On a positive note there are many clubs that have taken time out (for whatever reason) and come back successfully, my own team Leicester to name one. It doesn't help you get your Speedway fix in the short term though I'll agree
  4. Maybe it'd be better to put the money in some kind of trust fund whereby it could be used at some point in the future to resurrect the club if a suitable piece of land could be found to build a track on, hopefully in a better economic climate (globally/nationally and in Speedway)
  5. It's been shown not to in the past, Cradley Heath being the obvious example at Stoke and then latterly at Wolverhampton & Birmingham. It will help keep the name alive, but if there is no track or willingness to build one somewhere I think it's doomed to fail. Will Brough Park be sold/demolished if there is no Speedway?
  6. Yes, from memory it did rain in the lead up to the meeting leaving the track heavy and the racing processional... the next day was awesome though
  7. I know everybody has good intentions with offers of money etc. but surely you're postponing the inevitable. All the money you're willing to stump up is going directly out of the sport never to be seen again. As difficult as it is, maybe it's time for the club to take a sabbatical until the operating model of the sport is changed as it HAS to. It's totally unsustainable while the outgoings are more than the incomings and until the outgoings are addressed it will remain the same. Unfortunately the people in charge need to take a reality pill
  8. I doubt it... was listening to this weeks BSPL podcast and the Glasgow owner eluded to riders being paid more to ride in the PL than they do in the CL even though it's against the exact same riders
  9. You'd think it'd be quite easy these days to subscribe to such a messenger service... not only for meeting cancellations but also promotional activities. I doubt there's many (if any) that run such a service
  10. Hasn't Sam Ermolenko already been on as an advocate for somebody who'd invented a replacement for the internal combustion engine
  11. Is this some kind of 3-2-1 Dusty Bin style cryptic clue to the tired riders name? If so I'm totally bamboozled
  12. Who was this and when? I've missed this one And now they're back wanting "farewell" meetings!! Also don't forget they had great printed press media, regularly featuring in the red tops and weren't Mirror Group and the Daily Express even sponsors of some meetings? "The working man" was regularly exposed to Speedway coverage. I think a lot of many sports declines can possibly be pinpointed back at the launch of the football Premier League back in 1992 (?), the coverage was unavoidable, world stars started to appear, crowds went up, prices went up, the working class leisure pound was squeezed, not only in admission prices but also subscription prices. Many other sports reacted to this and changed their model, Speedway did not.
  13. Yes I'm sure the promoter of my club has better things to do on race day than look after the fans... even though they find time to continually tweet race results etc. I've put my ideas to them... they didn't even have the courtesy to even acknowledge them with a reply of any sort
  14. Agreed... but a club replying to a question on Twitter is as easy as me or you replying on here... and they don't
  15. I don't want a weather forecast, they're totally unreliable! I want a report from the track, which is the easiest thing in the world to do these days
  16. Nail hit on the head here I think... Also there was a lot less to do, in terms of leisure activities, back in the day, so you were having your parsnips buttered a lot less often. These days we live in a world of sensory overload and Speedway just can't quite cut it in its current guise
  17. What happens if you break the noise limit? Is it equipped with a laser cannon?
  18. And when ever you do make a comment, asking a legitimate question like what the weather is like, you'll get no reply
  19. Look at Peterborough, they're already running R/R for a rider who got injured riding for Glasgow, can't find (or weren't allowed to depending on who you believe) a replacement and could easily lose Scott Nicolls riding for Kent, Chris Harris riding for Birmingham, MPT riding for Redcar, Hans Andersen riding for Leicester or Bjarne Pedersen riding for Plymouth... or any of the other clubs they may ride for around Europe
