Vince, I came into this discussion because of the amount of abuse that was being directed against Aussies. You don't know me from a bar of soap, and you don't know what I do either, yet you see fit to personally abuse me. Saying "if you were over here etc" is fatuous, because you know I'm not. If its the System at fault then why don't you and your mates expend as much energy as you've put into slagging me off into attempting to fix what's wrong? If as you say Aussies are welcomed with open arms, how do you explain all the "I Hate Aussies" posts on here: there were three or four on the first page of this thread alone.
-
G'day Cuz, at least I know where I stand with you. I'll just take issue with your last point: as Parsloes posted earlier, the NL is for ALL riders to gain experience in.
-
I'm sure you're aware of the sterling work that Marcus is doing every year bringing over young Brits to ride in Oz under the Darren and Sharon Boocock Scholarship? This year Josh Auty will be returning to defend his Queensland Senior and Under-21 championships, along with Cal McDade, Adam Wrathall, Brendan Johnson, Gino Manzanares and Kyle Newman. If they're good enough they'll be taking part in our National Championships as well as Josh and Joe Haines did last season. These boys will be welcomed with open arms by the Oz Speedway community; their trips are made possible by a heap of hard work setting up sponsorships for them from both Australian and British Companies, Speedway supporters and their families. Evidently there's Sponsorship dollars available out there: you just have to work damn hard to get it, it doesn't just drop into your lap.

They're pretty close really - Racism being discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race or nationality and Xenophobia being an intense fear or dislike of foreign people. Both are pretty evident on this thread, alas; proof positive that despite the mushrooming of knowledge and its accessibility in the 21st Century genuine Dinosaurs still exist.

Best of luck to all taking part but in particular to Darcy in his Title defence and Justin in his biggest adventure yet. Best of luck to honorary Aussies Joe & Kyle as well. Any Links for these? -
Hopefully Sue'll find a texter: wouldn't want to miss Chopper's big comeback match. Apparently he's still got a valid South Australian moped license so that should cover him riding. His class may be temporary but his form is permanent, and I'm sure if he traps well and gets his nose out in front he'll be able to rely on his superior width to bring home the bacon, if not the whole pig.

Ah. yes, the poster who's "fed up to the back teeth with Aussies". In case you hadn't noticed, I'm not the only one who disagrees with you, but I'm obviously the only person with the guts to speak up against your inflammatory racist posts. G'day Cuz, what brings you on here, as if I didn't know? Ah, yes, the subtle hint of racism is enough to mobilise the legions of extreme right white supremacists; wouldn't be like you to miss out on an opportunity to hurl abuse at 'foreigners', would it? I see you've already pitched your tent in this debate: tell me, have you read the whole thread or are you just another member of the 'I'm always right' brigade who refuse to see anyone's point of view but their own, then resort to personal abuse when their argument fails?

Don't hold back, Malcolm, spit it out. Is this just an allergic reaction to the truth on your behalf, or an inability to grasp the fact that you may be in error, just as you were in your use of the word 'abbreviation'? Oh, and don't forget to rug up, mate; I'm reliably informed it gets cold and lonely up there on the High Moral Ground.
-
Well pardon me for breathing, Malcolm, I never realised you had such a high opinion on yourself. In future I'll make sure my secretary contacts your secretary before I even attempt to communicate with you. By the way, have you taken the time to learn what 'abbreviation' means yet? While you're in the dictionary (and don't borrow scribbler's; hers can't spell) maybe you ought to look up 'pompous', 'self-opinionated' and 'stuffed shirt'. You might learn something. I'll take your word for it, Rob, even though you haven't written any books lately or been to more Speedway meetings than anyone else on the planet. Geez, if Malcolm's one of the good guys I'd hate to meet a bad one! Love your work, Parsloes. Its a pity those on here who believe that the Speedway World revolves around them will dismiss your words of reason out of hand. Alas there'll be no convincing them; quite possibly their copy of the rule book is stashed away deep in some dark, underground cavern and is referred to as "My Precioussssssss".

Rumours abounding DownUnder of a new 11th-hour mystery signing by the Hitmen. Inspired by the Islanders signing of 44-year-old Ricky Scarboro, Buxton are looking at tracking an itinerant 45-y-o Aussie Swagman they found asleep under a tarp in the pits recently, clad in an Adelaide Crows Footy Guernsey. Apparently he knows which end of a bike is the pointy end and is willing to ride for beer money, which along with his accent and a threatening letter demanding money, from a long-lost Pommie Relative, should be all the qualifications he needs. Cometh the Hour, cometh the man!! Best of Luck Chopper!!
-
Footy's on, Malcolm, I'll talk to you later.
-
Mate, you've dug through the archives and found an obscure PDF file; well-hidden in that is chapter 17 sub section 7 paragraph whatever, which you cite as proof positive - all I've done is used half-a-dozen international search engines which couldn't find it - for all I know you might have hidden it yourself. There's no mention of it on the BSPA Website, either, and the BSPA, which calls the National League the National League, is good enough for me. You're persisting in calling me a Hypocrite - that's attacking the poster in my book, more so because you obviously don't know the meaning of the word. I call you 'Benny Boy' in a deliberate reference to Benny the Ball, a cartoon character in Top Cat, because I reckon you could do with some lightening-up.

Have to agree with you there, Diesel. During my visit to the UK last year I was amazed at the number of people who didn't know (1) where their local club was or (2) if they even had one! Searching for Wolverhampton's track I could see the Floodlights but the people I asked for directions hadn't heard of the Mighty WOLVES. -
Benny boy, you don't even know what the word 'Hypocrite' means, do you? However if your idea of debate is to attack the poster not the post then I don't reckon you belong on here. You say this is not an anti-Aussie issue: I've provided three examples of anti-Aussie postings. If you can't accept that then its pretty obvious who the hypocrite is, wouldn't you agree?
-
Here's a quick one for you. Malcolm. Google up 'British National Development League' and see what you get. Have you considered that you may not be right? The British Speedway Promoters Asociation calls it the National League; I didn't see any disclaimer on the site that says "we may have used an abbreviation that isn't correct": I think you're making it up as you go along. As you of all people should know, an abbreviation (from Latin brevis, meaning short) is a shortened form of a word or phrase, ergo an abbreviation of National League would be 'NL'. Google up 'BNDL' and see what you get, as well. Let me know how you get on. Oh, by the way, are you one of the so-called 'Promoters' that are trying to stamp out Buxton? If that's how your Collins Concise spells 'belonging' and 'mature' I'd get another one if I were you, scribbler.
-
According to the British Speedway Official Website its called the National League, Benny boy. If you're going to have a go at someone at least get it right. If its not an Anti-Aussie issue how do you explain these few examples? Got that right, 21stCH. Ommer Um Cradley!!
-
I don't like asking anyone to be a dobber, Jayne, but who are these 'Promoters' who appear to be dead-set on killing our sport? What sort of mentality have these people got? Buxton seems to be one of few clubs who're having a go at entertaining the public and now some green-eyed souls want to knock them for it. No-one's going to attract a crowd by racing against a three-man team. Best of Luck, Jayne, looks like you could do with some.

With the way the names get changed every five minutes would SPA Stick?

Respected - and Feared! Just like the old days!!

I think its only the Mighty HORNETS, with Todd and Mark, who have more than one visitor from another planet in their team.
-
No, Ben, I got involved in this discussion because of the Anti-Aussie invective and abuse that was being thrown about. I've never read so many uninformed posts as on here - half of you don't even know what the League is called! There are half a dozen young Aussies in the NATIONAL LEAGUE - less than ten per cent. Some of them are assets of higher divisions, others are just giving it a go and trying to live their dreams. All of them deserve the chance to ride, how about giving them a FAIR GO, as is allowed under the rules? If you want to lift the points limit for Overseas riders then by all means do so - via the rule book. Don't make stupid assertions or set ridiculous values purely because of some envious streak or downright ignorance, these are kids here, not GP Superstars - yet! There's always been a strong Aussie involvement in UK Speedway; we showed you how to do it, remember? Some of the strongest supporters of British Speedway happen to be Australians and New Zealanders. We are all interested in making British Speedway strong - I'd love to see the Tests again, and when I was over last year I was most impressed with the level of involvement and enthiusiasm in the GB v ANZACS series from both sides - alas not from the General Public! Now a few blinkered individuals are trying to stir up racially-motivated dissent without even attempting to go about it the right way, but then its always been easier to whinge rather than to do something constructive. Get more involved, why don't you? Don't Dream - DO!
-
Oh no it isn't. Shows just how out of touch you are. As far as I know the National Development League replaced the Conference League then was replaced by the National League.
-
There's approximately 80 NL riders at the moment: of these over 90% would be British. How much of a chance do you want? As far as either the PL or the EL goes I wouldn't have a clue how many riders are Polish, American, German, French, Finnish, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Russian, Aussie or Kiwi or Outer Mongolian for that matter, but I don't think either league would be able to operate without them, and then where would you be?
