Swc Event 2, King's Lynn, 26/7
BigFatDave replied to Bagpuss's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Spot on there, Pearcey - should be skipper I reckon; he's having a great season. I've gone for 5 EL heatleaders in my fantasy team; Ward, Proctor and Doyle haven't done enough in my book, plus at reserve I've gone Doolan for local knowledge & McGowan who's finally getting his confidence back after a couple of horror injuries. Luckily its up to Boycey, not me, and I'm sure he'll name a squad before the programs are printed. I'd hope Jason'll be back for the final but if he ain't, so be it. Whats the odds on Polska? -

Boycey's got a bit of tea-leaf reading or coin-tossing to do in the next coupla weeks; perm any five from Adam Shields, Davey Watt, Rory Schlein, Troy Batchelor, Darcy Ward and Chris 'The Champ' Holder, with Kevin Doolan and Travis McGowan waiting in the wings for the Kings Lynn round. On current form Darcy might be the one to miss out, perhaps. Can't see Crumpie not wanting to ride in the Play-off and/or Final, so that's another headache. With respect to Sweden and Finland, I think its between Oz & GB for the Thursday night off. -

Apart from a couple of links in posts on the BSF, do you have any idea of how to access the Rule Book? Its not on the BSPA Website. (Edited for accuracy) Anyone have the scores and scorers for this one, please? -

Why do we need two threads on the same subject? -
Nope, its just been re-named the Intercontinental Development League.

..............top response, SKJ. No point in debating someone who's always right, just ask him.
-
Sometimes its a good thing to step back and have a look to see how other people do things; otherwise you get caught in the "I'm right and everyone else is out of step" thinking we've seen on here. The trouble with that is these people are always right - just ask them. The minute you pop your head up you get shot down in flames, kiwi; how could we know anything, we're from overseas? I'm beginning to wonder if its worth the bother.

Geez, Marcus, I've just spent half-an-hour thinking up a witty, pithy response to Vince and when I post it I find you've gone and taken the wind right outta my sails! Like you I get a bit passionate occasionally, but most folks realise my heart's in the right place, as I'm sure Vince's is. Do I hafta kiss him?? He's not gonna try an' slip the tongue, is he?
-
I'll tell you what, Vince, you put as much energy into having a go at people who think its clever to post "I hate Aussies' or "I'm fed up with Aussies in the NL" as you and others seem to want to put into having a go at me and others who may disagree with you and I'll listen to you. I'm still waiting for your response to that, but you've chosen to ignore it. I've never claimed to be a world-wide authority on the sport or the font from whom all manna flows and I didn't come into this discussion to bignote or pontificate or pat myself on the back; unlike some I'm not here on a point-scoring exercise either: I'm simply an Aussie fan who sticks up for his own and knows how hard it is for Aussie kids who want to have a go at their chosen sport, and the way things work at the moment once they reach a certain level over here they have to head to the UK if they want to go any further, where they find that people like yourself want to erect artificial barriers against them to make it even harder. Promoters are simply doing what they do to make a dollar within the existing rules; if you don't like it then you'll have to work within the system to change it. I'll reserve my right to express my opinion, particularly on posters who seek to vilify or discriminate against others because of their race or nationality. If you think that's a tiresome chant then I'll leave you and your mates to it, and I hope you're all very happy.

So Chopper never got to have a skid? Good to see you didn't have to scrape the barrel!

Good to see we agree on some things Ben! (Puts down bag of over-ripe tomatoes.) You've obviously taken the time to think the problem through. As you say, my views on Racism are strong: I find it abhorrent in all forms, and take exception when it rears its ugly head, particularly when its directed against a handful of riders who are merely obeying the rules as they stand. There are only four or five Aussie riders in the NL and as the rules stand they are allowed to be there. In my opinion they are a great asset to the NL, teaching their British counterparts a few things about competitive racing that they'd otherwise be unaware of, and sharing their experiences. You only have to look at the progress of the Darren and Sharon Boocock Scholarship riders this season as a case in point. Don't forget, our system is built on individual competition. If its the system that's wrong then it needs to be changed, and our energies should be directed in that direction, rather than just wasting valuable drinking time abusing each other.
