  1. Which one of these would be closest to Leszno, Mateusz? (..................and which one would be the best to watch for a lonely Aussie far from home? )
  2. So? I think he'd hafta be in traction before they stopped him riding!!
  3. Dear 'whowasthatberntpersson', Looking forward to seeing you there. Regards, The Usual Suspects. Ps As far as start times go, who cares? We all get there as soon as the gates open about 4.30 - 5-ish and the party starts then.
  4. A most entertaining meeting with the youngsters all going flat out to keep warm in sub-antarctic conditions. We were most impressed with the way they'd race in sidecars then jump off and race solos - some of 'em would have had a dozen rides or more. 30-odd heats for a gold coin donation was excellent value. Arthur Sissis gave another brilliant display of his abilities - the kid is all class; while we all wish him the best of luck in whatever discipline he chooses we'd really like him to stay a Speedway rider, but following his success with the Red Bull Junior GP trials he may be lost to us. The article in Saturday's Adelaide Fishwrapper quoted him as saying he wanted to emulate his hero - Valentino Rossi, but watching his stylish riding I'd say he's got a soft spot for Leigh Adams as well!! As for the ******* Weather - nuff said!!
  5. Mate of mine sent me this! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
  6. Isn't Poole OK for SWC? The current economic climate's put the Kybosh on it, m8! Too ******* far to come, too *******expensive, too ******* risky, ............... you name it. Oh, well, sometime in the next decade fer sure, in the meantime I'll just have a cleansing glass of ice-cold 28-14!!
  7. Cheer up Brynbach, here, have a schooner of 28 - 14!! I know, I'm gloatin' again, but WTF?
  8. Stalin was responsible for between 20 and 60 MILLION deaths, Pugwash - I don't think Allied Hero "Bomber" Harris is in the same league, m8.
  9. What's the young feller up to, Chopper? PS See you at the Sidecars?
  10. Interesting to read that he had a street in Canberra named after him.
  11. Kym Bonython, AC, DFC, AFC, is a legend in Oz Speedway circles, Norbold. Bike rider, Speedway Owner and promoter, Speedcar racer - in the car he bought from Sir Jack Brabham!! Raaf Pilot, Musical Entrepreneur - (he brought out Chuck Berry, the Beatles (he drove 'em round Adelaide in the '62 FORD Galaxie that now lives in My Backyard!!), Louis Armstrong, George Shearing, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Ray Charles, Dave Brubeck, what didn't he do? During the last Great Unpleasentness he did a year of active service flying bombers out of Darwin, Ambon and Borneo and spent the rest of the war training young pilots. On one raid he crashed his Mosquito on an Indonesian island. Once the crew were safely out, he went back to the plane to save his gramophone and crate of jazz records. Seriously WEIRD, and still kicking, - he used to vacuum his lawn FFS - an art lover, he presented the first exhibitions by artists like Sidney Nolan and Arthur Boyd. When Sidney Nolan went to London in the early sixties he needed money to buy a Kombi to get around Europe painting. Kym agreed to finance him: 1500 quid in return for five paintings that Kym could choose himself. One of the five was one of the Ned Kelly series of paintings that are valued today at well north of $2 million each. So that deal earned Kym something in the vicinity of $12 million today. Another artist he helped on the road to riches was Pro Hart of Broken Hill. Kym tracked him down when he was painting part-time and working underground. “If it wasn’t for Kym Bonython I’d be picking rocks down the mine,” Pro Hart was reported to have once said. Older fans may remember him at Rowley Park Speedway trying to whip the crowd into a state of excitement and talking up the latest US or English speedway driver/rider he’d brought out or introducing a young newspaper proprietor, Rupert Murdoch, to present the trophies. In pride of place on his mantelpiece is a prized trophy – the Australian Speedway Hall of Fame 2007. LEGEND.
  12. Hey, pandelboy, remember sitting in the Bathtub in yer first pair of Levis? Scored a r t after an Aldermaston march on the strength of my faded skintight blue jeans - Sheila cracked me up - "Oooooh, are they Levvies?"
  13. Thanks for that, m8, good to see Tom getting back on track and the Sedgemen Bros firing. Bit of a preview of the Ozchamps qualifier looking at the field.
  14. Ahem!! I was hopin' for somethin' a little more specific; I'd already pretty well worked out the choice of countries. Still every little bit helps.
  15. Anyone got any idea where Qualifier #2 will be?
  16. I can picture it now, Shazz; just the two of us, a tropical evening, the smell of Frangipani in the air, a table for two under the palms, a gypsy violin in the background, moonlight, and last but not least a just-opened freshly-refined quart of Castrol R. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH!!
  17. No Worries Tony. Will we be seeing you at OzChamps '09? After all, its only a hop & a skip to Newcastle.
  18. Ivan Mauger and the Silver Sash; Briggo and the Golden Helmet; the ******* NOISE!! Standing too close to the fence on your first meeting 'cos yer mates told you it was a good place to watch from, then turning round covered in sh!t and seein' em cackin' 'emselves twenty feet back! The Corner Carpets at Somerton Park. Losing the head of me rattle out the bus window when we went to Cradley Heath.
  19. Is this for Darrin's do? Yep, catchin' a plane this time 'cos me arms get tired too easy these days. Johnno's thinkin' about it and me m8 Ray the Didgeridoo Man's comin fer sure, altho' he won't be bringin' his instrument. Ever heard the expression "Assault with a Deadly Weapon, to wit a Didgeridoo"? That's Ray. Ask him about the time he did six months fer Babysittin'. I did hear a former Forummer who used ta be a Mod's comin' over from Vic for it as well, plus Sidewinders on the Friday. I was a Rocker meself. What's this about Arthur Road Racin'?
  20. Ta M8. Much Appreesh! Geez there is a lot of 'em!
  21. The former Heathen Skipper and SA Champion will be honoured at the next Gillman Meeting - here's the full story from the Gillman website. Any favourite JB stories out there?
  22. You'd hafta reckon Hawkeye'd be right up there, DB. Onward and Upward, Humphrey!!
  23. Just a coupla clarifications; with the Under 16's at Undera, the solos are on the 17th: the Teams is on the 18th, and there's an Under 16's meeting scheduled for Sidewinders at Wingfield (Adelaide) for solos and sidecars on the 16th . As Ozyace says the Ron Johnson memorial is on the 17th as well, and Broadford have got a club day scheduled for the 18th as well! Bit of a dilemma here for a little m8 of ours - Broady or Undera? On the 24th at Gillman the South Australia Solo Champs is on supported by 350's and sidecars and there's also a joint sidecar/street stocks meeting at Broken Hill. If yer over in January there's some exciting 4 wheel action as well with the WSS Sprintcars tour, which finishes on 16th and 17th at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway, and Australia Day weekend there's the Warrnambool Grand Annual Classic over two nights. If you've never seen Sprintcars you really should, oh and don't forget to stand as close to the fence as possible (heh, heh, heh!)
