A 37-year-old rider was killed in the first leg of the Finke River Desert Race yesterday, while the injury toll climbed to 12 in Australia's toughest off-road enduro. The rider, who cannot be named until Police contact his next-of-kin, crashed into a tree on one of the most difficult stretches of the route, across some of Central Australia's harshest terrain.
