How about Marshall Pugh who won the San Pardo open in Majorca in 1972 Tallest speedway rider Pete Simmons the now Ipswich team manager who rode for them.

Ole Nygren is 80 this month and he is having a big party in Stockholm which will be full of Speedway riders. I had an invite , but the trouble is they will all be speaking Swedish which is hard to understand and I also had a prior engagement.

Am I missing something here . The posting was "World Champions That Never Were" I conclude that means Speedway riders that were never World Champions. So why is the site littered with past world champions.

Surely Piotr Protasiewicz should be in the GP's .After all he is the second highest Polish born scorer in the GP's after Tomasz Gollob and still in the top 10 averages in Poland and Sweden. Surely he must be the choice ahead of Eddie Kennett with a 3.00 average. -

Future of the GP's...?
mickthemuppet replied to Sprog1's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
You could not be further from the truth. I would just like Speedway to be more successful than it is at the moment. In fact I would not mine seeing a old style world championship and the GP's as well all in one season. In Britain if we had 45 riders enter an old style championship then each rider would have 3 meetings Each Elite League club would host one meeting each Any more than 45 then preliminary rounds could be held on Premier League tracks. Repeat this in Poland and Sweden. Any other nationality could enter in the country they ride league matches in. The top scoring 10 in each country +2 highest runner up then contest 2 semi finals. Then top 8 in each final go through final. One year final in Britain and two semi finals in Poland and Sweden. Next year final in Poland and S/f 's in Britain and Sweden. Year 3 final in Sweden and other two countries have semi finals. All profits stay in Speedway, and all clubs want more meetings in a season. -

So Darcy Ward should be in then for what he has done on the track this season. -

Say you are an up and coming Speedway rider and want to get in the GP's is there an openng to qualify or are the riders selected. Say for instance Chris Schramm of King's Lynn. Does he have the option to get in the GP's or is it a closed shop. -

If people think this meeting is expensive why not go to Coventry City Football ground . £22 for an away supporter. Whats the better value. For the £3 difference give me Speedway any time. This is not the dearest priced ticket either. -

Surely we are now in the twilight era in the life of Grand Prixs. With three Gps to go everyone knows Jason Crump will be the winner. How can you have proper meetings when the inside gates completly dominate the meeting, and it's not the first GP to do so. Sky are showing their lask of interest in Speedway with the red button farce. How long now when they start showing recording's of these meetings. Let's get rid of the GP's and get back to the old world championships one off finals. Lets get back to Saturday night speedway in Britain like it used to be and get the crowds back Grand Prix's have been the worst thing that has happened to British Speedway and no clubs benefit from these meetings. The sooner they are gone the better. -

If Poland do not win this final it will be the fault o the team manager Marius Ciesak . Why oh why did he not use a tactical on Jarek Hampel in Heat 17. -

I don't think you can carry on promoting Speedway if you are not paying the riders. -

Can Ipswich put a team in the Speedway World Cup next year. If they can get Scott Nicholls to ride the other four riders were there tonight with Jaraslav Hampel, Tomasz Gollob, Daniel King and Troy Batchelor. -

I backed Danny King to be the top scorer for GB at 16/1 and have been paid out as a winner. Should I get on to the bookmaker and say they have made a mistake. You've lost me on the Denman bit ,mind you a lot of your posts are a bit wooly. -
Swc Event 2, Peterborough 13.7.
mickthemuppet replied to tomazpozrl's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think you will find that there were hardly any teams that had there best riders out whether it was by injury or team selection, so it was not just Team GB If everyone scored what Danny King did this would be regarded as a fantastic performance -

Only you of all the people on the forum could suggest to dropping your top scorer. Still one out of three for you is not bad. Rico should ride but not at the expense of Danny King, but for Woofie. -
Coming back from the Swedish Grand Prix, can this system survive. We have had now 3 SPG's and the attendances to put is mildly have been disappointing. We started at the Prague Grand Prix at the Marketa Stadium. Last year I thought there were 7500 to 8000 although there seemed many more walking round the city. This year I think more like 3,500 there. Then moving on to Lezno. Last year 25,000 this year looked about half that amount. Then we move on to Ullevi in Sweden. The Swedish Federation say they need 18,000 to break even. Last year 17,000 this year 12,000 to 13,000 . There is a groundswell of opinion that the world championship should go back to a one off final like it used to be. This is backed up by quite a few ex riders and surely it would be a sell out at Cardiff with perhaps 80,000 there. I am sure that the days of the GP are numbered. I am sorry to say this but Cardiff will be lucky to get 30,000 people there this year, as the general trend is the GP's are too much the same and they are getting too dear. Once you get rid of the GP's British Speedway can get back to racing on Friday and Saturday nights with greatly increased attendences which will mean more money coming back into the sport which will entice the top riders back

Betting
mickthemuppet replied to sirmattyisbac's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The best prices available for the Russian was 40/1 and the best price for for Freddie Lindgren was 74/1 with the meeting sponsors Tobet -
Great - The sooner the Grand Prix are got rid of the better Speedway will be. That have been the reason for the decline in Speedway in Great Briain. Let's get back to the old world championships with riders having to ride three qualification rides then semi finals going on to a Grand Final. That would certainly fill Cardiff or any other large stadium

Forget the Bookmakers the best odds on offer will be with Betfair and they are the only people where you can bet place only. That is on the first three places. Some bookies bet win only. Betfair odds will normally be up on Friday. Forget Bookmakers their odds are very poor.
