Where Is It All Going Wrong At Berwick?

Like Berwick were going to get Jonasson turn up every saturday night. -
Berwick and Sheffield Speedway clubs have got together to organise a benefit meeting for stricken rider Ricky Ashworth. Ashworth, who is still in Hull Infirmary following a crash which rendered him unconscious on August 2, has been riding on loan with the Bandits from his parent club, the Tigers, for the past two seasons. The meeting will be held at Berwick’s Shielfield Park on Saturday, September 28 and will feature riders representing the two clubs. Berwick co-promoter Ryan Anderson said: “We thought long and hard on what type of meeting to put on for Ricky. This is the Berwick club’s way of doing something along with Sheffield. This has been a real tough time for his family and all those close to him in speedway and at work. “An Individual meeting was mooted but we thought we had to include Sheffield Tigers, his parent club, where he rode for almost a decade, so we are planning a special challenge meeting between the clubs, including guest riders.” The initial plan is a 13 heat formula plus a special second half trophy, four heats plus a final, with a cash award and trophy for the winner. Anderson added: “Obviously, times are hard financially all over and you just cannot keep asking for money, but as always we would expect speedway folks to come together for Ricky. “Our Bandits 2012 Group and Supporters’ Club have been brilliant with wrist band sales, track collection etc and this goes for tracks all over with the monies being collated in a special account for ongoing transfer to Ricky via Paul Ackroyd (Ben Fund). “We will try to get every race sponsored as well as the meeting itself and will be announcing deals as soon as possible including hospitality etc. “We must attempt to keep costs as low as possible and will work on that too.” Im starting a thread for this early as Im sure theres many people out there who will be wanting to make the trip to Berwick.Im sure someone will post the teams closer to meeting time as there may be one or two changes between now and then.

Why does Dyer keep being mentioned, have you not seen his Redcar scores.Dyer was keen on coming back to Berwick, but when Berwick didnt dtep in he went to redcar.Big mistake, still nice kevlars. Alden walked, hardly. He was never signed so had nothing to walk from, for whatever reason. As for Aspegren & Starke,if they arent going to be used by their parent club then they will go where they want, money, convienience etc. No point in looking back to the Peter Waite,we have what we have for good or bad. -

Averages will come into it,but Id rather have riders with a bit of ambition and a bit of fire in their bellies. And if your suggesting certain riders are manipulating their averages to secure a team place next year then they`ve been doing it since March in some cases. Face it one or two just arent up to the job. -

The actual shape of Shielfield has altered little since speedway returned there, banking on turns three and four being the biggest. In that time we have had some great speedway with passing aplenty so the idea of the track being hard to pass on isnt quite true. Also the Under-21 meeting a few weeks ago proved that perfectly. -

English Riders Is Two Riders To Many If Made Compulsory.?
screm replied to stratton's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Might be worth doing if say those two riders were under-21,and were to be reserves for all season, not put up into the main team just because their average dictates.Something similar to what they do in Poland. -
Thats how its writing down in the rule book I think.

So he didnt stand for under performing riders, not a bad thing. -
If Starkes parent club isnt going to use him for PL racing, then hes up for grabs,Berwick should be in poll position to sign but we said the same last winter about Mickey Dyer and look what happened there.Starkes had a decent season with Berwick, one or two poor meetings along the way in in general hes done ok,and worth a team place in the PL.
-
Star in the making he may be but I thought he raced in Germany at weekends so couldnt committ to racing at weekends over here, making it doubtful he could sign for any PL club.
-
Ritchie Worrall seems the ambitious type so might look to go full-time EL and get a contract in Poland, that would certainly bring him on as a rider rather than sticking it out in the PL.IMO Anton Rosen looks perfectly capable of taking over as top man with the Diamonds as long as he doesnt end up in Poland to,and Id be very keen to get Lewis Kerrs name on a contract. George English seems to have a knack of getting the best out of any team that assembled at Newcastle,so if I was a Newcastle fan I wouldnt be all that worried. Not unless Mr English fancies doing the same thing at a club sixty odd mile further up the road.

I was only on about last night, but Smith does get involved in accidents from over trying at times, but that makes him the entertaining rider he is.Id far more have a rider like that than have a rider who seems happy enough to poodle round and collect easy 2nd or 3rd places,we already have our fair share of those. -

Correct though theres been times when the promotion give excuses on behalf of the riders.Peter had many faults taking feebile excuses from his riders wasnt one of them. -

True, but to put up a performance as some did last just isnt on IMO,especially after out manager came out on saturday night with this,"We’re not here to do favours and will be looking for a win – mark my words.”Maybe he should have got his team into the same way of thinking. -

When a top team takes on an inferior one, they dominate them early on before sending them packing after handing out good hammering, that ladies and gentlemen is what happened at Brough Park last night.Newcastle were dominant throughout and the only tiny minor blip was their only last place of the night for Tully in Ht13.Worrall was imperious with his maximum, while Newcastle looked to have unearthed another top talent in Rosen, impressive at Shielfield on saturday and impressive again last night. Another awful away performance from Berwick, and those fans that have travelled to a number of the away meetings deserve a medal the size of a frying pan IMO if that was an example of the kind of pap they have had to put up with. Two riders should be exempt of critisizm,Kozza Smith whos night last to the third bend in Ht4,and Paul Starke who once again his score and performance put some of his more experienced teamates to shame.Aspegren,Barrett and Bellego were emmbarrassing,Aspegren may well have won Ht12 but other than that he was useless and Barrett and Bellego shouldve stayed at home, quite how the manager put the black`n`white hat on Bellego in Ht8 is beyond me as Starke had to have been a better bet especially as Mr Va Va Voom had been tailed off in his first two rides.Alden looked good in winning Hts5 & 11,though he was back to his moody best for the rest of the night. Watching Berwick last night answered alot of questions for me,the main one being some of these riders individually and all of these riders as a team arent up to the job of taking Berwick Speedway foward and up the PL to a respectable level. -

You`d like to think one or two of this years team have ridden themselves out of a contract for next years team rather than into one. -
