  1. Surprised and disappointed that Sky wont be showing the GPs,what chance now that the Sky deal for showing EL speedway will go the same way after this season.
  2. BERWICK Bandits Speedway are hoping to secure planning permission for extra practice sessions on the Shielfield Park track when staging national and international meetings. The club has submitted an application requesting permission for practice sessions for a maximum of two hours between 11.30am and 2.30pm on the Saturday of such a fixture. However, its application to Northumberland County Council states that it would be for a maximum of two times per season. The club held its first ever FIM (Grand Prix Qualifier) event last July which attracted a crowd of nearly 3,000 despite dreadful weather. Visitors and the speedway governing bodies were so impressed with the event that Shielfield has been awarded another international event in August and the possibility of a future national event. The club says that competitors in a national or international meeting must be given the chance to practise beforehand, especially as the majority will not have raced at Shielfield before. The club also stresses that the normal Saturday evening restrictions will be adhered to and that strictly no racing will be permitted during the practice session. Its application also points out that the event will bring business for accommodation providers. Taken from Berwick Advertiser on line.
  3. Sad to see any rider having to retire due to injury,Havelock had a great career and got to the top. Best wishes for the future.
  4. Cant Peterborough buy him, just in case Swindon fancy loaning him again next season.
  5. Hoping someone out there can help. Ive recieved a PM from someone who has a Berwick Bandits race jacket from the year 2000,with the ACC sponsorship logo on the front. Its the No2 race jacket, does someone know who it couldve belonged to.Ive looked on the archive sites but have drawn a blank,at a guess Im thinking David Meldrum or David Mcallan. Thinking caps on.
  6. Reading this thread and you would think Middleditch was the one that had been done for drugs, drink and other offences. The only thing he seems guilty of his a daft comment he made in the local papers. Its Darcy Ward thats the drug taking plonky.
  7. Arent we making a bit to much of this, apart from the local rag and the Speedway Star Id be surprised if this story made any of the national papers.
  8. You`d think after Wards run in with the law over here he mightve matured, but it appears not. Also this might not do his chances of gaining a visa and favours.
  9. As its only a challenge meeting Im sure the Edinburgh promotion would be quite willing to let Tully guest, should Berwick choose Tully of course.
  10. Credit where credits due,it took two posts to get Mr Copy & Paste going, where it normally takes only one. I like you.
  11. Agreed,I take it you dont re-read some of your own then. And anyway Im quite happy to have my comments anallysed, and poured over by you,I dont have to ride on the back of Berwick Speedway to put my comments up.
  12. I agree that his programme column is usually a good read, even if you dont always agree with what he writes. Its a question of taste and choice but I think Berwick might do well to be without him on the centre green, some of his parade presentations and comments on opposition riders were really quite emmbarrassing at times.
  13. Berwick have announced some changes, firstly it looks like they will revert to a more traditional parade with bikes on track before the racing starts, also a local DJ is joining the presentation team. The meeting programme will change size though there will be no change in price it seems. The adult admission will go up from £12 to £13.
  14. Sad to hear that Micheal has given up his presenting days,on the times Ive seen him he`s always been very imformative and never hogged the limelight.
  15. Good grief,Teal puts up a perfectly good arguement and thats the best you can do in terms of a response.
  16. Simon Stead will be a top scorer for Sheffield, and probably one of the top riders in the PL.If Sheffield are to be successful though it will be what kind of back up he gets from the other six.
  17. Oh boy are you in trouble with the Bandit thread commando`s. But you are right,we have spectacular meetings at Shielfield in the past,so its not like it cant be done.Last season our track crew were at the mercy of the weather at times,so you can forgive that, but I still maintain if the racing top notch then the crowds will come back. The promotion have taken a gamble in lowering the admission prices, hopefully that will attract a few back but if the tracks prepped well and the racing is good, theres bound to more missing fans to come back simply through word of mouth about the racing.
  18. Yeah right. While I agree that a modern presentation can add to a night at the speedway, its not the be all and end all for me,I mean Ive never walked away from Shielfield thinking wasnt Dick Barrie great tonight,or there was some great banging tunes tonight. Its all about the racing for me and that brings up the thorny subject of consistant track prep. Some see the subject as "sad" but put good riders on a good track and you invariably get a good meeting.Im even quite happy to put up with Barries witterings, and any music of choice if we get some cracking meetings, and as we have seen in the past it can be done.
  19. Mr Barrie will love reading this, his ego will be suitably massaged.
  20. Less of Dick Barrie, less laps from the tractors, push the meeting through, its not to much to ask.
  21. But does it though, advertising space is bound to cost more for the F1 coverage than any for GP speedway,so a return of only 2.2 million might not be that great, must admit though Im surprised its that high.Ive always thought Sky were reasonably happy with the viewing figures for speedway though with the money Sky are throwing at PL football it could well be that speedways days are numbered.
  22. You think, normally I record any GPs or SWC meetings that are held on a saturday night,so I can get to Berwick.Should the GPs be available on this site through a link from Polish tv for example then Id stay home and watch the GP,that means Berwick Speedway not getting my admission and programme money.
  23. The threads about Pearson & Tatum have been done to death IMO,they are clearly the commentaters that Sky want and if theres GP speedway on Sky this season they will be the commentary team, which is just fine by me.
