Swindon Stadium

Odds On

Featured as the main report on BBC Points West this lunchtime. Mainly focused on the opposition to the plans speaking to the resident next door to the site and someone worried about the impact on the crematorium. Also some words from Steve Park who basically said if this doesn't work out then it's unlikely there's anywhere else.

Please no one tell him about Workington - the second-best track in the country.   It's funnier with the added ignorance.

Best race Track counts for nothing if not enough fans are turning up.( have no idea if this is the case though).

They also showed that report on BBC South Today on Friday I think it was.

Just read a Polish report on Facebook saying Swindon council approved new stadium? Let’s wait and see 🤔

That's nonsense.

only Quoting what was posted ???

Not having a pop at you, just saying it's way wide of the mark.

The planning app for Studley Grange is in the consultation phase until next Thursday. There are currently a LOT of objections.

The planning application was submitted to Wiltshire County Council, not Swindon Borough Council. Therefore, the Polish report is inaccurate.

What's the betting the campaign to blow it all up has been instigated by certain dark forces at arm's length it also noticeable that there's been lots of quotes of "if this doesn't work that's it Speedway here is done forever, never coming back" everything seems to be pointing towards a token effort being set up to fail.

Regarding the quotes of “if this fails, Speedway is over, and it will never return,” they were an unusual statement to make on a local BBC news report by someone who was supposed to be advocating for the proposed development. However, given the negative tone and the fact that the individual was not particularly enthusiastic about the project, it is understandable why you perceive this as a token gesture. Of course, knowing Osbourne, it is a very fair observation.

Nevertheless, the negative responses from the local residents of Wootton Bassett appear to be genuine when considering their misinformed comments about Speedway. Additionally, there are numerous applications for house building in their area, so it is likely that they are also concerned about the potential impact of the Speedway stadium.

In conclusion, the speedway public at large should register their support using the link posted above. This initiative primarily aims to secure the Abbey Stadium and prevent any further permissions until the fate of the Studley facilities is determined.

Just registered my support for Swindon Speedway! Good luck! Moreover, I read some of the comments that object and there are some right tools in this world aren’t there 😂 someone wrote, the practise sessions will be loud and noise pollution, hmmm when did England have practise sessions 😂 someone else wrote the travellers site will be impacted… are we actually putting travellers before locals who want to see speedway… they are travellers… they can 1. Travel somewhere else. 2. Choose to live in a house and stop avoiding council tax.

These must be the same numptys that say if you are against immigration you are racist 😂

One of the problems to be overcome is that the application is not just for a speedway track that might operate,  say, 20 times a year, for a couple of hours - it's for a motorsport park with speedway and karting, and as far as I can see, no information about the potential hours of operation is in the application.  On that basis, and to be fair to the locals, the noise may well be an irritant.

I don't think some of the responses on open forums are putting speedway in a good light. I think we'd do well as a community to focus on responding to the application using the template provided, and refain from being abusive to people who hold a different view. Beat them with planning arguments, not abuse.

I copy and pasted what was suggested, I onto read the comments from others and left it at that. Foxhall isn’t that bad and I live 1 km away from the track and they operate many weekends, outside in the garden yes it can be heard but the speedway isn’t half as loud as 20 cars at the same time. People just don’t like change and that’s fact, same as when people say happy for people to come to the country, then ask them to take one in their house and it’s a closed subject.

I agree it’s quite amusing reading those comments. One poster even submitted three on one day! The one referring to the travellers made me chuckle – you can bet your bottom dollar if they were to pitch up anywhere near their home, they would be up in arms. So being concerned for their wellbeing is laughable.

To my knowledge, there have been no submissions from any residents on that permanent site, which is very close to the proposed development, but plenty from people who live over three miles away.

By submitting your comments, using the SNS template as a basis, we ensure that the planners focus on the planning process rather than these incorrect but all valid local people’s concerns. That’s all we as a speedway community can do.

Yes, I submitted my comments based on the template as well.

The only point I am making is that the site is proposed to have karting in addition to speedway, and so it is pointless to try to defend noise concerns simply by saying, as others have, speedway will only be for 2 hours a few times a year.

On one Facebook page a local councillor has been called a 'c**t' for stating his objections, and told he is wrong when he says activity will be more than just a few speedway meetings. The best way to persuade the councillor is to use planning arguments to knock down his concerns, not abuse, whether we agree with him or not
