secsy1
With no competitive speedway or any riders, why oh why is this event being held in Croatia? To expect any of the existing riders to make such a long and expensive journey is beyond belief. Surely Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Italy or the UK would be a more suitable venue for most of the existing riders? This is why speedway is on the decline at the moment with ridiculous planning and promoting of speedway!
secsy1
The apathy on this particular thread just shows what our speedway community think of Women's Speedway!!! If the interest is non existent here, then what will it be like for this event in Croatia?
IainB
If anybody was serious about it (the FIM) there'd be regular subsidised competion to encourage more women into speedway, this is just a token gesture in the hope of grabbing some media attention isn't it? Like the SGP events held in Australia over the winter and the SGP4. You can't just hold one off annual events and hope to breed a new generation of rider, there needs to be proper investment in a WSL.

Firstly a training camp with expert instructors followed by 2 semi’s and the final. Gorican is one such track that is suitable for all this track action and is a great size for the girls. Of which there are how many? Britain struggled to fill a race with ‘girls’ in last season's events .

Of course not but don’t try to run an event when you can’t find enough competent riders.

Fortythirtyeight
So now the Women’s British championship is ‘postponed ‘ due to lack of entries, what did they expect ? They had to pay a rider to make up a race last season !
mikebv
If they really want to develop the female side of the sport, they should provide a spot in each NDL team for a female rider... The top league gets hardly any coverage so whoever wins the NDL will get pretty much zero coverage... Might get some publicity week to week though...

If a female rider was good enough they would almost certainly grab a place however by far the best UK female is Katie Gordon who has strong links at Redcar and still doesn't get a spot. Publicity or not the interest in the sport is waning nationally and promoting novice/amateur level events won't help that.
Bagpuss
Demi Blu Harris looked promising on a 250 at Lynn the other night but I'm guessing she's some way off 15?

ChesterfieldTiger
I like the idea of introducing a rising star style spot in the NDL. But, i'm not sure there are enough female riders at the moment to fill all the spots, especially if there are any injuries. Maybe give them a bit of a discount on their average to help with team building, as having a Katie Gordon or a Celina Liebmann in the NDL could help to create opportunities to inspire female riders. Even then i'm not sure whether that would help much. I think the problem is probably below NDL level, as there aren't enough female riders which is seen when they struggle to fill up the competitions. It may help if they have an F1 Academy style competition to inspire females to have a go, but speedway doesn't have (doesn't want to spend) the money to build these foundations.
