Aces v Birmingham

Reading on FB it seems like it's acceptable for Belle Vue to call a match off for wet weather, but not acceptable for Birmingham to do the same thing, just because they are weakened?

I know us Speedway fans can be as suspicious bunch, but why automatically assume it's been called off for team strengths rather than the weather?

If Birmingham called off every match when they looked weak, they would never run lol!

Good points.

It hasn’t stopped raining since yesterday afternoon so the call off is no surprise at Perry Barr. I’m just a couple miles away so no surprise.

The NSS call off is more of a shock.

Belle Vue is more suspicious because according to some of their fans it needs a monsoon for a meeting to be called off

The NSS can take a considerable amount of rain leading up to the event, riders however cannot race if it is raining for the duration of the event, as was forecast, due to the rain making vision impossible. It’s like driving on the motorway in the rain at 70mph without your wipers on.

It’s not stopped raining so far since about 9am this morning. But due to stop soon and if had been a usual 7.30 meeting we would have been fine.

Given the Mickey Mouse state of Brum's team, it was for the best that both meetings were called off...

A shame more meetings don't get called off when either of the teams cannot have all their riders available...

Oxford have arranged a match knowing Magic is not there ..

A ludicrous situation that actually gets condoned by the BSP and fans alike...

The sport has the level of following it deserves ..

I totally disagree with that, what about people who have planned holidays etc or those swap shifts because they work different hours each week?

If it's a rain-off you begrudgingly accept it, but it would be far worse to have a holiday messed up than to watch an understrength team.

So many "made up teams" could be avoided given many meetings are actually arranged  when promoters actually know their riders are already booked to ride elsewhere on that particular date...

Meaning those who arrange these meetings must have no belief in the credibility of their own product...

Effectively, "any Speedway will do"....

The sport can never move forward over here when such nonsense is allowed to pervade..

Have you actually thought about that statement? Throw in the weather situation and we’d be lucky to get the season completed by December, with only Bomber and Santa interested in guest bookings by then.

They need to plan in 12 home meetings each....

And, two more for the play off finalists...

In just over FIVE months....

No need I would suggest to arrange meetings when you know riders won't be there, given the amount of blank Mondays and Thursdays available....

I get the point you are making, but until the sport can address the number of inevitable rain offs ( don’t know what the answer is to that one, well at least one that is financially viable), that proposal is doomed from the outset.

now why would we do that ??against  Birmingham ? with a weakened team and also a bank holiday crowd ???

Ah yes just like me riding my Motorcycle on the motorway at 70 mph in the rain.  Done that more than a few times. With al the technology riders now have , dirt deflectors, tear offs, roller film visors surprised that " visibility" is still an issue to call off a meeting.  Track was waterlogged would do me ... unless Belle Vue circuit has suddenly sprouted a roof it gets waterlogged like any other shale surface.

You’d think something would have been invented to prevent riders having such poor visibility they have to remove their goggles altogether. Something I’ve seen more than a few times.

Is our lack of rain offs due to the construction and drainage at the new track or the wonderfully mild and dry weather in Manchester?
