Yes, and it gave some very strange outcomes…… First bend bunching didn’t happen with the outside riders just riding off the track and being excluded . Martin Goodwin excelled at giving a shove to move riders off the track and being excluded 😂 As riders left the track the race continued. A real trick track.

Says much about the state of British Speedway when you don't know whether the CEO is still in post. A chap called Ivan Mauger once said speedway is a sport with professional riders managed by amateurs. For my two pennorth , Pghil Morris has been great for the Speedway Grand Prix, where he is giiven the authority to manage the show . In British league speedway... didn't really stand a chance .... most promoters aren't interested in change.

Always said that th metal I beams that protrude around the outer perimeter were a major issue. Yet to see a photo of anything resembling a safe speedway track emerging . Good hot dog stall . Without those beams, a riding test of the track would have been possible as Lakeside ran for many seasons with white sticks marking the outer boudary of the track. Picked up a copy of Speedway Star from Sainsburys this week . Occasionally grab a copy when I see something of note , and the reopening of the Brafield Foxes speedway gained my interest. Interested to see that he track operated as a training facilty . With so little time before the opening night, I beams still to be cut off and no air fence yet delivered, you can see a delay occurring.

Shocking from the Poole team manager , allowing Bowes to cheat in the pits , warming his tyre. Does a TM do anything useful these days other than fill in his programme and choose who rides in heat 15. Newman just 3 more weeks before he is offski and Poole strengthen up their away side. Lawson and his “ rocket🤣” need to calm down , and get some more meetings in early doors before going 110% . Good showing from Rushden, who is settling well at the Championship level. Biting off more than he can chew committing to Poland IMO .
-
Good grief, Lawson excluded for stuffing away rider into the fence, and the home fans cry “harsh decision “ ! Quelle Surprise . ( Memories of Dugard doing the same most weeks at Eastbourne 😂) Makes the return leg a formality today ….. and the Poole Fans will be on their way to another “win everything” season.

Poole 2026
old bob at herne bay replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I have to ask whehter the young lad is taking on too much far too soon in his career ? He's just turned 16 and seems to have gone into major league speedway with both boots, racing in both Poland and 2 English leagues. Coupled with all the silly U18 U19 U21 championships now held in every country he will be totally overwhlemed with bookings. Expecting an awful lot of the youg lad, and I just hope and pray that he doesnt competley exhasust himself both physically and mentally in his first season of serious competitive racing. -
Oxford 2026

Good to see our old friend R/R making an appearance so early in another exciting season of UK speedway. Even in a challenge match they couldn't find a real rider to havea spin. ???? -
Looks like being a top class field then 🙂 . There will surely be a bout of breakdowns en route preventing riders fro arriving at the "national speedway stadium" but being stuck on a Scottish tour. Surely they could give Bewdley the Belle Vue track expert the title and be done with it. The fixture planners have made a boo boo on this one , and they ought to come out and admit their error.

Milton Keynes ....last raced in Milton Keynes back in the early 90's ? Think i was a Hackney supporter then . Doubt there are many supporters who still have their programme boards from 30 years ago ? Guess t he Cobblers will be hoping that hte Stock Car supporters will transfer their allegiance to the 2 wheeled sport ?

2027 ! They’ve only just got 2026 coming up to the tapes ……..forward planning never a feature of British Speedway, and with this current lot clearly happy to flog the 3 league structure to death ( even losing the Ippo promoter this season) what makes anyone think 2027 will be any different to 2026? Of the starting 6 in 2026, it will be interesting to see how Northampton fare…… of the other quintet let’s see how their businesses run with no TV money and riders new pay deals. Doubling up and down should keep most of them happy. The Poles will have pulled up the drawbridge in 2027 so even fewer riders will be tempted to stay in the UK scene unless the6 cannot get a polish spot ( or don’t get paid in 2026) We might see some 100th anniversary racing in 2028 ……😂🤣

Let’s hope the BSPL have been explicit in stating the requirements for Northampton Cobblers speedway to be granted a licence, and we do not have any unforeseen delays.
-
As I have posted elsewhere it has to be the Cobblers ….as is the Northampton Town F.C. The track itself looks like a death trap for speedway with short I beams supporting cables on the perimeter. Will need some serious upgrading to provide a safer raceway. It looks as flat as a board and is allegedly nearly 400m a lap.

What about Northampton?

Good luck to the Cobblers …. Let’s hope they might attract some former Panthers fans back to the sport . Should get somenovelty value of fans from nearby Leicester, Ippo and Lynn taking a look at the track for the first time… but spectator facilities look pretty spartan standing on grassy banks on a cold evening. Memories of freezing on the grassy slopes of the Arena Essex racebowl. -

Will their nickname be the “Cobblers” -
Hard to see anyone beating BV in the prem? Kurtsy and Bewley top two will deliver.
-
Ah well, all is forgiven Chris. The Ippo fans will all return to watch whatever is served up in 2026 in a 5 team “premier” league. Slowly British Speedway continues its slide downwards…… another “exciting “ season lies ahead with a cobbled together 3 league structure until the next hiatus in 2027 when the Polish Leagues impose their restrictions on riders .
-
Thanks for the update …….theres still 3 weeks until the season kicks off so plenty of time .. let’s hope the team know when to turn up and who will pay their wages
-
been away for a few weeks .... any nes on Ipswich new owners ??? Any team news ??

One must only assume that the riders named on here that are not “ fixed up “ have a secret verbal agreement in place with “Ed?” Pending formal approval of purchase of the tractor air fence and starting gate and some brooms .
-
Now that the excitement has died down 🥱 It is disappointing to see that there is still a fixation on the 15 heat formula for ALL meetings in all leagues in the UK. why? Could the 5 team PL be made a little more intersting byusing a different race formula for the B fixtures ? Or a different formula for the P.offs ? Lack of imagination.
-
Another factor is the age profile of speedway supporters. As folks get older they don’t turn out for every meeting in poor weather to stand outside in often spartan conditions on cold evenings to watch the stop start racing punctuated by all too frequent delays . With each passing year, I would suggest there are fewer “hard core” fans who will turn up every meeting .
