szkocjasid
If the Prem lost too many clubs & dissolved leading to "one medium league" (can no longer be called one big league) there would have to be lots of changes. Clubs couldn't stick to Mondays & Thursdays, so the remaining GP riders would probably desert, likewise top riders racing in Poland on the weekends. With more spaces to fill at "Champ level" and less top riders willing to race in GB, would that lead to a "weak championship / strong National league" level of competition? Would Poole fans support that level of racing as previously they didn't support NL racing & the promotion isn't willing to try risking it again? At that stage would Poole lose more money in a "weak Champ / strong NL" than they would stepping up to keep the Prem alive?

If the "weak Champ/strong NL" were the only ticket in town then I would think that a successful Poole team would generate decent crowds... As for fhe Prem? The TV money also won't stretch too many extra ways so I would think any change would be "Brum out/A.N. Other in"... Poole would be taking a big risk to add circa £150k to their outgoings to try and win the league, increase attendance prices and change race nights... In fact, there is no good side to moving up for Poole... The Prem could actually benefit from just having six teams.. More riders available, and a larger slice of the TV money.. Can't really see how 6 teams would generate much excitement among what looks like a diminishing fan base. The sport for me continues to stagnate regardless of certain people trying to dress it up. The crowd at the televised Leicester v Sheffield meeting on monday looked pretty low with most people of a certain age demographic. Something has to change or I fear the worst. Seems like I have said this over the last 3 seasons as have many others but is anyone listening.

Six teams, seven teams, makes not much, if any, difference... They will fiind a way to devalue their own competition regardless...
YeOldPitGate
I wonder if they are forced into doing something next season assuming Brum shut and with Oxford struggling to put a decent prem team together despite being rumoured to being one of the best backed teams financially. Also Sheffield situation seems cloudy. So it might be a Championship light league of say 13-14 teams the top stars would leave meaning a shortage of riders so would probably have to be 5 man teams moving forward.

Six teams, six riders per team, no "makeweights" at the bottom of the team... All riders with a minimum four point average.. 36 of those needed... Meaning there must be a fair few "subs on the bench" for injuries and poor performers getting replaced... 1
YeOldPitGate
I do wonder if they will struggle to get six teams next year though Mike, anyone moving up really would have to be insane or have £100-£200k they would be happy to set fire to. I love the game live to far away from a track now used to go to Lynn when we had Loram and Lofquist at reserve and Henka turned up brilliant days, things were on the decline then even but we really are on the last knockings now sadly.
