... and for those of us not on Facebook? What happened?

the tapes were breaking away and dangling loosely over the track once the tapes rose,

it happened 3 times, twice oxford were on a 5-1 when the ref stopped the race (correctly may i add)

but heat 15 it happened again but this time poole rider gated in a must win race, this time the start marshal made a bee line to the stricken tape and moved it away from the track holding it in his hand so the ref let the race go

thats why i mentioned the ref also, both the ref and the start marshal were wrong

it was disgusting that the start marshal grabbed the tapes soon as poole made the gate on a 5-1 but didnt the 2 times oxford gated on a 5-1

the ref stopped the race the 2 times oxford made the gate but didnt when the start marshal held the tapes after heat 15,

so 1, why did the start marshal only act when oxford made the gate .

and 2, why didnt the ref also step in and stop the race in heat 15

On one occasion Poole made the gate.

surprised there is no mention of the cheating start marshal in heat 15, disgraceful from the start marshal and the ref

It's up to the ref to stop the race and I'm surprised he didn't to be fair. Surely track officials are only allowed on to the track once the red lights come on for obvious reasons.

Crazy that some people are moaning about Will Cairns. I'm sure some of it is down to the old Poole jealously factor, but in reality he has a great future. I've seen enough of him riding to know that he has plenty of potential, but give him time (which I also hope he does himself - unlike Ashton Boughen).

He's 16 years old, so is always going to be a bit up and down. And don't forget he was up against arguably the strongest reserve pairing in the league in Luke Killeen and Francis Gusts - two riders who started the season in the league above.

Oh there he is, thought you might appear when a flat white is mentioned

And I'm enjoying said flat white and me chocolate cookies 🙂

It's the only way to celebrate another masterful performance by the Pirates!

Matt's the owner so after his 'motivational' team talk in the pits he's entitled to keep a 'watchful eye' on his riders' gating.

of course he can watch, but my point was he wouldnt know anything about setting any race bike up,and of course he doesnt need to know.

Matt Ford knows a thing or two about speedway, I expect he has picked up a lot of information along the way including a little bit about set ups.

Same old tripe from you about Poole cheating, was nothing to do with Poole, referee is in charge of the meeting

Didn’t mention cheating arfwit, signs of guilt you mentioned it? Start Marshall belongs to Poole though, 100% broke the rules of any motorsport, just a coincidence that Poole were In scoring positions, nah.

Where was the ref when all this was going on, he's in charge

Agree, ref is useless but Poole must be held accountable for the start marshals actions.

The ref should be accountable for the start marshals actions.

Perhaps the start marshal was instructed by the ref, he is in direct contact with him, we will probably never know

Copied and pasted off BSPL website report of meeting:

POOLE defeated Oxford 48-42 in a controversial finish to a thrilling Cab Direct Championship clash at Wimborne Road.

Pirates No.1 Richard Lawson completed a 15-point maximum in Heat 15 as the leaders maintained their unbeaten home record in the league, having been given a tough test by the Cheetahs.

The visitors were left fuming, however, with the events of the final race which was initially stopped due to a malfunction with the starting tapes only for the re-run to go against them.

Lawson was backed up by skipper Zach Cook with 10+1 and Lewis Kerr on 10, whilst reserve Francis Gusts scored 12 from six rides for Oxford and Sam Masters scored 10+1.

Lawson said: “Tonight was very tough. I think that has been the hardest match so far this season. We had to work hard for it.

“It was one of those meetings that I knew was going to go down to Heat 15 and it was just that. They ran us close, but we got the win.

“They outgated me in the initial run but in the second one Sam made a really good one and I just had to battle into that first turn and fortunately I got around.”

Cheetahs manager Peter Schroeck said: “The ending of that meeting was diabolical, to be honest.

“In the final race, there was no consistency. We were on a 5-1 in the first staging – and Sam and Francis knew what they needed to do.

“That was stopped because of the problem with the starting tapes. But then have the same problem in the re-run and yet let the race continue – I have no words. It robbed us of a draw and taking the race to a Super Heat.”
