Oxford v Kings Lynn BH Monday 25th August Live on TV

Recommended Posts

Well here we are barely at the end of august and the speedway season for many clubs is over ..........due to the "p.offs."  Tonight's meeting Oxford College boys vs Kings Lynn stars is being billed as a "nothing fixture" just because they aren't in the "p.offs"  The entire season is meaningless unless you reach the "p.offs"

There really ought to be some better way of getting the TV luvvies their  "TV trophy " meetings without runing the season for the majority of clubs who have not qualified for the "p.offs."

I’ll be at Sandy Lane cheering the Oxford teams on win or lose. What kind of supporter doesn’t go to a meeting because their team isn’t in the play-offs… 🤷🏼‍♂️ half of them watch OUFC week in week out and they haven’t won a trophy since 1985.

There were various posts on here stating they hadn't been paid, mainly due to Tungates actions last week...lets see if those posts have any credence or facts to them.

Exactly this.

Lots of posters here and on social media passing on the latest Chinese Whisper doing the rounds.

Unless the poster is prepared to name the source etc they may as well not bother, it's like doing your GCSE maths and not showing your working out.

That makes absolutely no sense. If it was top team wins the title without the play offs, it would STILL be a meaningless fixture! In fact, there would have been several meaningless fixtures an awful lot sooner if it wasn’t for the play offs. There was a kings Lynn fan still not giving up hope of qualifying as soon as a fortnight ago. They would have had to have given up the dream literally months ago if it was simply top team wins the title.

It still doesn’t sit well with me that the top team doesn’t win it. Imagine finishing top of the premier league and yet not winning the title, but instead having to enter a play off system with five other teams who made up the top 6. Yes you get play offs in lower divisions, but that’s for promotion. The top team are still champions!

Ipswich will finish top, they’ve taken every single aggregate bonus point in both rounds of fixtures against every club (unless Sheffield manage to be the first next week) and yet could end up empty handed by having an off night in the semi’s or final. Yes, those are the “rules” and everyone knows them before a wheel is turned, but it’s a nonsense. They’re the best team in the league (not Leicester as some comically have been claiming in recent weeks), and deserve to be champions.

Why not have the team that finished top are champions, but there’s still a top four race to prolong meaningful fixtures, by having the top four then enter the KOC, two semis and a final?

That also does away with the farcical situation of having odd teams enter, and one club getting a “bye”.

Me! And there was still (slim) hope at that point. Comes with the territory of being a Kings Lynn fan.... !!!

Difficult to disagree with any of that. Let’s have the same system in the Gp’s as well. If Kurtz end up top of the pile after Vojens, I’m afraid he isn’t world speedway “champion”! The top eight simply then enter two semi’s and then the final, to see who becomes world speedway champion in a winner takes all final..

I’d also go one further and say imagine watching Chelsea vs wolves and Chelsea go 2-0 up so the rules give wolves a goal to make it 2-1 and more interesting!

The tactical sub for me is a joke. If you are behind in the meeting, it’s because you’re not good enough, you shouldn’t get another chance to get close.

What if a substitute comes on and scores a goal?

Harsh on Tungate that... what's to stop these, notoriously neutral, start marshal's timing riders out in the future?

Fully agree. What’s he supposed to do when he’s been moved by the start Marshall, not like he’s choose to move by himself he’s being forced.

Crazy from the ref really.

But you can make a substitute when you are winning as well and defend. Not just when you are losing. It’s totally different.

It's not that different... were you following Speedway when you got double points for your tactical? Now that was crazy!

Tac subs have long been a part of Speedway, In fact there hadn't used to be a limit on them when I first started following Speedway (aside from 1 each per rider) and it made the sport a hell of a lot more interesting imo. As a fan you really used to be able to play team manager unlike these days where it's barely worth a TM even being in attendance.

Admittedly I wasn’t and that sounds farcical if I’m honest having double points! I get the idea of it and how it makes meeting not runaway ones but when you come in fresh to speedway and look at the amount of random rules and regs its not that hard to see why people go to a few meetings then give up. I really just love the racing and enjoy it so it isn’t exactly a game changers for me just more or a frustration as to why someone gets a second chance at a meeting if they are dogSht to start with :D
