What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

I fully understand most of your points and the logic they hold.

Just my personal opinion, I think Glasgow is a fantastic club that's very well run and to me they're competing below their level.

In Football terms it's a bit like Newcastle United competing in the EFL Championship.

In my opinion for British Speedway to move forward the whole outlook towards the Sport needs radical change, AGM's should no longer be based around what's best for me and my club only.

They're all to pally pally for me and nobody wants to upset each other so almost everyone gets whatever they want to the detriment of the Sport overall.

Ruthless decisions have to be made for the benefit of the Sport and squabbling over little things like Race Night's should no longer be given the time of day.

Despite my opinion, Nothing will change at this AGM and Northampton will be sacrificed and it will be a very short lived return to Speedway and we will all be back here in 12 Months time back at square one.

There is a quote in the late Simon Wiggs book that seems more relevant than ever today.

"If the promoters were making millions of pounds out of speedway then I would listen, but they're not.  Most of the are busting their a**** to survive,  then they have the nerve to tell everyone else how they should be running their businesses.  I find that astonishing"

So nobody agree's regarding Glasgow, Fair enough.

What would be your stable solution with a view that lasts longer than 1-2 Season's?

Nothing changes until the attitude / tone changes at the AGM, If they keep on putting Mates preferences first over the Sport then it only ends one way.

I agree Glasgow should be in top league as facilities are fab, but the Faccenas didn't make their millions by being stupid, they want Glasgow speedway to make enough to be sustainable, and we are finally getting the numbers required. Moving to Monday or Thursday with increased rider costs, would be financial suicide, we would lose so many families, we have at least 100 kids racing roary on a Friday night. Would need a very good tv deal or other sponsorship to tempt us up a league.

In my eyes... I think before the scrapping of the asset system or if he'd been signed on a multi-year deal you could probably justify it as an investment. He missed numerous meetings due to fixture clashes and will more likely than not turn out to be just another here today, gone tomorrow rider rather than a stalwart of the sport in this country.

... also, those kind of benefits should be being offered to British riders, with the reported retirement of 2 more young riders, Ben Trigger and Max Perry, who should be the life blood of the sport in this country instead of the foreign imports

Would also have a knock on effect to the other teams that are close to them, they would lose at least 1 local match which will cost them money

Agree we don't want to lose the upcoming youngsters but also the reasons for there retirement could be absolutely nothing to do with any of the failings of the system

Perry isn't retiring. His racing page on Facebook half hour ago put a post out looking for sponsors and looking forward to next season

That's good to hear, he's been doing laps from a very young age and riders like that shouldn't be scratching around for sponsorship while clubs are spaffing out money on here today gone tomorrow foreigners.

Has it not occurred to you that the life of the owner of Glasgow might not be reliant on speedway and if push comes to shove, he will just say I’m out of here. How would that sit with British speedway? You cannot hold a club owner to ransom relying on their passion for a sport where the most successful clubs do well to break even.

Phil Morris should approach channel 5. They show boxing and might be interested. Free to air tv would get good viewing figures and might tempt people to go and support their local club.

It's good you mentioned this as it's probably not something they would have considered....

Yes but it doesn't matter because every club / promoter will be going anyway if things continue to be run in the same manner.

Once the PREM goes, The CHAMP goes with it and that is the major thing that's flying over fans heads here.

5 Man Teams in a heavily watered down 1 Big League will be British Speedway's future if Mates keep being put first before the Sport at AGM's, The 1 Big Watered League wouldn't even be anywhere near current CHAMP standard let alone PREM standard.

Promoters will have an even bigger problem to deal with then.

IMO Monday night Premiership racing is the worst decision ever made. Thursday is slightly better. Who wants to really go out on a Monday night especially parents with kids. And if you’re trying to attract a younger early 20s audience, generally they’ve spent out over the weekend. The majority of our meetings should be on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and if that means we have to lose the ‘stars’ then so be it, the sport is or needs to be bigger than any individual rider.

I agree with this although wolves alway did alright in their Monday race night but even I preferred back when they rode on a Friday

I’m afraid I can’t agree with you on once the Prem goes the Champ goes with it.
