it's also becoming more common for players to play in one competition for their county side and be loaned elsewhere for another, effectively doubling-up.

But that doesn't mean it's right - or popular with cricket fans? I assume the players opt for whoever supplies the most cash a la speedway?

I don't read many threads on here these days but this one caught my eye for some reason.

According to Speedway riders, history & results at least 358 riders were used across both leagues in 1970.

I also took a look at my first season 1981. 36 teams began the season and at least 374 riders were used in official fixtures. I've also identified at least 100 riders who rode in second halves and junior league matches without making an 'official' appearance.

Cricket's county championship in this country is decided by a league where teams randomly play some sides twice and others once. Several rounds of games in recent years have been played with a completely different ball which in speedway terms would be something like having to use a 250cc in some meetings. Overseas players can be brought in for one match only which could be seen as guesting. Similarly it's also becoming more common for players to play in one competition for their county side and be loaned elsewhere for another, effectively doubling-up.

Maybe those are the reasons why the county championship gets little to no media coverage these days with only the occasional match shown on Sky Sports these days.

Maybe that is the way Speedway is going right now, unfortunately.

I don't think I've seen any complaints about it. And it's not really to do with money, just a way of helping players get more games.

Each round is heavily featured on the BBC Sport page with live updates, commentary etc. Every game is also streamed live for free on YouTube.
