Mario is not even close to one of the hottest prospects on the international stage. He's a decent rider and if he's hitting 5-points regularly at the end of the year, he's doing his job.

The level of expectation here is bonkers.

And where is this level of expectation coming from?  Cami Brown in December 2025 “It’s sensational that we can bring in Mario who won a gold medal for Germany in the Speedway of Nations 2 last year. He’s one of the hottest prospects in world speedway."

No one on here is getting their speedway opinions from a Camikaze comment on a press release, surely!

Indeed! but it highlights the unnecessary pressure being put on our younger riders, many of whom don't cope too well with it. CB and PL have a lot to answer for.

Oh, f*ck off.😂

It was an exaggeration; emphasised by the fact I also said Berwick dragged Reid Battye off a beach.

Let’s not lose sight of the point though; he obviously has something about him, given his exploits Torun and Pardubice, so it’s somewhat frustrating he’s looked entirely uncomfortable and off the pace in 90% of his rides.

There are two things for me with this perspective;

1. I don’t think anyone is expecting full maximums from Hausl, but the minimum expectation is looks even slightly competitive. He done well in heat one at Shielfield, but looked like he’s unfamiliar with a speedway bike for the remainder.

2. It’s a competitive sport; pressure is part and parcel of such environments. Nobody is pressuring him to outscore Harris and Howarth, but the minimum expectation is he’s competitive.

I hope he comes good, I really do.

Based on my 2025 world rankings (which include both his Torun and Pardubice high points) I had him at number 37 in the under 19 rider rankings just above Luke Harrison and Jody Scott (who are both a year younger). He's no Mitch McDiarmid (17th in under 19s), and he's not even the highest rated German (Tyler Haupt and Janek Konczak are the names to watch out for).

On that basis I think a 4.00 average is a reasonable aspiration for Hausl, and given the need to settle in to a strange environment even that may be a challenge.

This is brilliant mate. Thanks for sharing.

Am I correct in thinking not one of these riders race in the UK in 2026?

Incredible to think we bagged Nagel for the second part of 2025 and he’s sitting fifth.

The down hearted side of that is in current British speedway him achieving a perfectly respectable 4 point average but having been assessed on a 5 average will make it very difficult for him to find a team place next year. A rider on more than around 3.5 a risk in the main team but too high an average for a younger reserve. 3.5 to 5 seems to be a difficult position for a younger rider to be in.

I'm not so sure about that. With a year of experience in the UK, I'd think he'd be a good prospect to improve his average the next year. I'd hope his average second half of this year shows a good improvement on the first half. We'll see.

Can I pass on my best wishes to Connor Coles and his family, hoping for a speedy recovery.

We all know Speedway is a dangerous sport ,and 9 times out of 10 a rider will get back up, but there are

occasions when they are badly injured, and this is when the Speedway family bands together

and hope Connor gets through this injury.

I don’t disagree but how many championships teams are going to take on a foreign based young lad that fits somewhere between reserve and main team. If he achieves a 4 average on an assessed 5 he will be in danger of not even seeing this season out. I think the issue is the assessed 5. If he was a reserve and achieved 4 brilliant. But achieving 4 in the main team not so. Time will tell.

I was speaking to someone about this at Shielfield; Hausl next season.

I imagine we’re very generous when it comes to riders’ total package; we’ll likely throw in generous amounts of flights, accommodations, transport, per diems, etc. in addition to your traditional payment per point. It’s likely why/how we were able to attract Hausl and Pedersen, or Nagel and Tarasenko before them.

So if we don’t resign them, do they now have an expectation for returning to the UK which clubs without multi-millionaire owners won’t entertain? Might be why Nagel isn’t back. Who knows?

Interesting discussion while an old guy in a golf buggy did four laps of Shielfield on Saturday night.
