Welcome mate. So here we have our top division. Yes just the 5 teams-why what's wrong with that? Hey wait! Come back let me explain - oh ok forget it, Anyone else like to join us?

Come on speedway is a top professional sport (hope he's gullible)  - worldwide as well. It was ranked the second most popular UK sport once upon a time *( not a fairy story).

Now ranked 16th according to a recent post on this forum (page 112 by Iainb). So come my friends join the speedway world in 2026 you are needed and most of all your cash.

By the way the lower division has a massive 9 clubs. What do you mean that's rubbish too? Oh bye then......next please!!!

Don't forget that the top 6 of each of these 5 teams will be at least at or around the standard of the Championship heat leaders

This means that almost every heat in the Premiership will be similar to Championship heats 13 and 15

But of course the Championship is the best place to be......

Mmm, five teams and six months of fixtures to fill.

Using the example of four weeks to a month will means seeing each of the remaining sides once a month.  Assuming September will be the play-offs (hard not to qualify) and a four team tournament to pad out the season and then each team having a round of a new Individual series  "King of the Premiership".

As someone once said "familiarity breeds contempt".

If you get one of those five times becoming the whipping boys on there travels are you going to get supporters paying hard-earned money to go and see them?

The only way I can see this working if all Teams were stacked with genuine  stars who can put bums on seats.

I hope I am wrong but feel this has disaster written all over it.

One guy called Chris will become a hero for all five Premiership teams for sure.

The year is 2059. Premiership CEO Phil Morris has arrived at the annual AGM to propose a points limit of 12.5 per-team. It’s the 26th season in succession Phil has implemented a points reduction.

Leicester boss Stewart Dickson isn’t happy, but the manager of the league’s only other team - also Stewart Dickson - is delighted.

With only five teams their will be many riders either without a team place of opting out racing in this country.  Why not allow these riders to be put on a 'guest list' - from which Promotors can only pick cover for injuries rather than allowing riders from other teams to guest.  This would allow Supporters to see different riders rather than track specialists.

Riders need to guest as well as double up too, don't forget.

The only reason two leagues exist is because they need it to, remember..

Heaven forbid they have to get a job outside speedway, like so many did for the majority of the decades when the sport was popular...

"We've just won the league"..

"We've just won the leeeeeeeeague"...

"We only beat four teams"...

" But, we've just won the league"....

Indeed they do - because as you say they are in thd lower leagues

The Premiership is the top league, the pinnacle of domestic Speedway

If the height of ambition is to be white van man deliveries by day and Soeedway hero by night we may as well just pack up and lock the gates

In name only, which is why I can't get my head around your [the sport needs the PL] argument.

Even if it was one big (and 14 is not that big) league you can call it what you want " the top best ever league in the country ever league... ever"... it's still the top league

IS there anyway to get out of this dire situation of five teams and somehow jazz the season up a bit?!!! IM SURE!!! EVERYONE is fed up with me saying bring back the pit phone, match races or even a second half to fill this dire situation of five teams, and get some buzz back and people actually wanting to to speedway, even bringing in a polish team(yes i know rider clashes) for a midweek break in fixtures for a friendly match.JUST THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX where i dont think the mob running it at the moment do !!

Why not add to the variety of meetings by bringing back the 'Golden Helmet' / 'Silver Helmet' match races? (anyone recall these?).

I never did understand why these mostly excellent two man races were dropped.
