Where is Blodorn?

Finished on the podium in an Individual meeting yeterday in Germany.

"Manager Mark Lemon is forced into two changes following Norick Blodorn’s crash in Heat 1 last week which saw him signed out of UK racing for nine days, whilst captain Brady Kurtz is serving a mandatory eight-day suspension after missing the Sheffield away match due to illness."

We certainly don't help ourselves in this country forcing riders to miss meetings when one assumes they actually could and want to ride!

In the case of Blodorn I think its sensible to sign a rider off for a period if they had a bang on the head. The illness thing was to discourage riders from fibbing if they fancied a night off but the jury is out on whether it actually works. FWIW Kurtz's absence for Wroclaw the other night suggests it was genuine.

Concussion protocol - but only enforceable for UK racing

If Blodorn was riding in Germany then surely he's fit to ride? Maybe an alignment of rules is needed.

And why aren't sick notes required for illness like they are for injury? If "sick note" had provided a sick note last Monday for a genuine illness then surely he shouldn't receive any ban ruling him out of riding in this country.

Probably because too many riders were getting hold of too many dodgy sick notes.

Absolutely they should be aligned, up to the FIM to step in and sign a rider off from all speedway if they've been knocked out/had a concussion.

I think the UK may have aligned to other sports in this country though rather than any FIM dictat... either way it's not a good look (as we know) when riders are seen to be riding in other countries and not over here

Kurtz will have been required to provide a doctor's certificate to miss a meeting in the UK for illness. The Regs state that you get a mandatory 7 day ban even though a certificate has been provided

010.5 Facilities

h) sick or carrying a non-speedway injury.

The rider must immediately inform the SCB and their club. A

Medical Certificate must be supplied to the SCB within 48 hours of

the sickness/injury occurring in which case the rider will receive a

mandatory 7 day suspension of his SCB Registration from the day

of the first meeting missed.

This facility will apply automatically for a period up to a maximum

of 28 days. The Promotion may apply to the SCB Co-Ordinator for an extension

So even if he did provide a sick note he still gets a ban? That is ridiculous! I can understand a rule being in place for a rider wanting to give a meeting a miss because he doesn't fancy it but surely we as a sport shouldn't be doubting sick notes, don't know if I'm being naive there 🤷‍♂️

Yes. It's obligatory to provide a certificate,

I did query it with SCB a while ago when someone didn't turn up for a meeting after it was highly rumoured on here that they were just giving a meeting a miss. It's approach is that the SCB is in no position to doubt or challenge a medical certificate, but imposes a 7 day ban regardless.

The 7 days commences from the day of the first meeting missed, not necessarily from the date of the illness or certificate.

I think the rules governing concussion are not as strict in Europe as they are in the UK so Blodorn could ride over there but not in the UK. The rule for concussion should be standard throughout in world sport.
