Lions v Witches, Monday 6th July

Recommended Posts

Seemingly no interest in this meeting.

Both sides have riders missing. Leicester have booked Josh Pickering to cover for Ryan Douglas ( injured in Poland yesterday) and utilise RR for Kyle Howarth.

Likewise Ipswich operate RR for Danny King.

The problem with British Speedway is it's now a bit like school dinners. In other words, the crap they serve up on your plate on Tuesday, will be the same Tuesday and the Tuesday after that.

Taken from the BSPL updates site;

Some late team news and a major blow for the Witches as Richard Lawson has been taken ill en route and has returned home. With no facility permissible, locally-based Freddy Hodder has agreed to race, and has made it to the stadium at very short notice.

Lawson has been "unlucky" recently hasn't he?.....

Seven day ban I presume...?

Or will Donald Trump give "Arry a bell?...

He claims not to know what a red card is, how the hell will he know what speedway is or does he think it is a drug you can get high on very quickly😄 We will find out when he hit the hotline to Phil. Until then let’s just see how this national league match turns out.

A shambles of a sport in the UK...

I don't get how there's "no facility", surely Ipswich could move r/r to cover Lawson (means Brennan gets an extra ride) & use Hodder for King?

Lawson then gets a sick note & a 7 day suspension.

If they were told there was no facility then they wouldn’t have been allowed to use R/R for Lawson, can only be replaced with a 2 point rider.

I assume it’s because it was short notice so he didn’t have a doctors note declaring him unfit to ride?

I just feel there must be a contingency for if someone falls ill on the day? Even the no facility rule means you get a 75% guest, of course at short notice, Hodder is probably the best they could find anyway?

I guess it's possible that would have counted as withholding hos services & he'd get a longer ban then?

Shame he didn't have a Danish league match today, then he could have missesd both fixtures without picking up a ban & Witches could've used a guest 🤭

Falling ill on the day is too open to abuse though isn’t it, you could use it to bring track specialists guests in. If someone is genuinely ill on the day of the meeting and gets a doctor’s note then it’s indisputable as you have an independent sign off so in that case you get a guest?  If you pull out a couple of hours before the meeting en route without a doctor’s note then it could be abused.

Not saying that’s what’s happened here as I don’t know the facts or what’s wrong with Rich but that’s just my interpretation of how the rules work.

The updates page says taken ill en route - can't see how they could possibly get a doctor's note?!  The only option is a non-contracted rider as the replacement (even if they had been at full strength).

Lawson is great at working the system  last week he was injured for 1day this week taken ill but I'm sure he will be feeling better in a day or 2. The other one he's used was he was waiting for a new passport to arrive 😂for a polish fixture i believe it's quite amusing really and sums up the state of British speedway that he gets away with it.
