Currently reading Andrew Edwards book,MCN Days, Speedway Nights. In his book he remembers being in the Millenium Stadium for a British GP in 1995. The stadium did not open till 1999.

Don’t we all have these “moments”

The 1995 British Speedway Grand Prix took place at Hackney.

The first time the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff was used for a Speedway Grand Prix was 2001.

It is the unusual moments I seem to remember

A certain poster on this forum's son going after an opposing rider with a marshall's shovel at a Newport Mavericks meeting

Will Beveridge attacking Emil Linqvist and the subsequent fracas

Scott Smiths bike ending up on the rake of the passing tractor as a celebration wheelie went wrong

Least able Karlsson brother having a dust up with the start marshall

Frank Smart and Robin Aspergen racing each other ( tentatively) in the opposite track direction in just boots, underpants, helmet and gloves

Just hope I remembered these incidents correctly

It all seems somewhat sanitised these days

Yes it was Sam ! got clattered off on bend 2 and picked up the shovel and was ready for the opposing rider when he came back round after the race was stopped .

Have to say that much as he used to get angry and wait for somebody I don't remember him picking up a shovel and I just checked with him and you definitly mis- remembered that one 🤣 He was no angel for sure but don't think he needed to 'tool up'.

The best thing Sam ever done was giving paedo Shawn a slap in the car park. Shame he didn't stamp all over his head now looking back. 😂

Does anyone remember the 99 PLRC at Sheffield and former rider Derrol Keats glassing a fan in the bar? Sure he got banged up for it.

Maybe, that's what happened to me as I have got older , still think you are a youngster and can fight the world !, but will see my son on Wednesday who regularly came with me and see how he remembers it 🤔 Think the shovel was a gesture/warning and no one actually got hit with it

Sam says he never picked up a shovel in the time he rode Speedway.

I can remember him kicking off against Scunthorpe when one of their lads had been instructed to turn hard right on him out of the gate and after the third time Sam kicked off and then loads of people got involved in handbags. Far as I can remember the biggest punishment ended up being for Danny Norton that day but really should have been for the bloke issuing the instructions from the safety of the pits.

There was also an incident with Luke Priest where Sam waited for him after being cleaned out then hitting Lukes helmet when he told Sam it was because he was going too slow 😂. Would have all been OK 10 minutes later if it hadn't been for Dave Robinson excluding Sam from the meeting and one of the opposing teams lot running over and trying to hit Sam while everybody had hold of him.

The exact opposite happened at Stoke when Sam cleaned Gary Flint out, rode round to apologise but Gary (quite rightly) had the hump and hit him. The Marshall soon broke it up, the ref didn't take any action (it was Margaret Vardy so she probably didn't see it) and 5 minutes later Gary and Sam were having a laugh about it in the pits and are friends to this day. Ms Vardy then did notice that Karlis Ezergalis had the wrong shade of yellow helmet cover and either excluded or fined him (can't remember exactly) she had a politicians sense of priorities 🤣

To this day I think that riders who are pumped up shouldn't be punished for a bit of handbags immediately after an incident, the crowd love it. However anybody except another rider hitting a rider should be banned from the pits for life, there's no excuse for it.

Cheers Vince, my son also Sam, cannot recall the incident, so either he was not there or my foggy memory is passed down to the next generation, must have been some other rider, but sure it happened, just got the wrong guy ? I can remember the volunteer trying to hang on to the shovel

There was a shovel incident with Stoney and Anders but that was at Sheffield in the PLRC.

I can remember something in a Mavericks meeting but I thought it was a broom? No idea who though.

Some great ones there - Scotty also put his bike under the ambulance at Stoke giving it too much up the hill back to the pits after a fall in the race.

That Will Beverage and Mick Powell incident was a shocker, ruined his career.
