Scunny v Workington

Recommended Posts

Some cracking Speedway in this meeting with Comets playing their full part. 12 down after 7 Comets fought back well in the middle part of the meeting but Scunny came strong  in 14 and 15 to bag all the points. Palm Toft with probably his best meeting of the season and reserve Nathan Ablitt with a match winning 9 points seen the Scorps home. Comets reserves had a tough night which was the difference really. The scoreline perhaps flattered the Scorps a little as the racing was generally very competetive. UTC !

An entertaining meeting last night at Scunthorpe , Workington looked to have lost their way early in the meeting but fought back well to get the scores to within four points but the last two heats the scorpions pulled clear to win by 10.

Both sides had bad luck with fallers and exclusions but on the whole probably a fair result.

Good to see quite a few  Comets fans at Scunthorpe to cheer on the lads.

Think the Comets have one of the best traveling fans that go to most meetings, granted our nearest clubs, Glasgow Edinburgh and Redcar come to Northside in good numbers, but you only see a handful of other teams supporters travelling across the country

A few years ago many clubs would run buses/mini buses to tracks all over the country but with the cost of living now its difficult for many fans to travel.

The cost of bus hire / fuel is the main issue. I know Glasgow ran a bus to Workington £40 cost, but if 3 or 4 people share petrol costs in a car it's only around £20 each . I know the supporters club lads did run a mini bus but the costs and new licence rules for self drive put that plan out of reach.. must have been 30-40 comets fans at scunny, a very good effort by all. But the whole crowd looked lower than what we get at Northside

I was at Scunny at the start of the season and was shocked by the low numbers. Us comets fans probably made up a high percentage of the total.
