  1. Regarding fan numbers, I was at Scunthorpe last night and estimate the crowd to be around 350 ish, whilst the Workington crowd is 450/550 I would guess ?
  2. Probably not. Who knows, Poole have a long history of success in both Leagues so have a big fanbase but like all clubs must keep promoting and make the package attractive especially to the younger fans as most clubs rely on an ever ageing band of fans. I'm not sure even if Worky had more success they would attract even a thousand fans.
  3. An entertaining meeting last night at Scunthorpe , Workington looked to have lost their way early in the meeting but fought back well to get the scores to within four points but the last two heats the scorpions pulled clear to win by 10. Both sides had bad luck with fallers and exclusions but on the whole probably a fair result. Good to see quite a few Comets fans at Scunthorpe to cheer on the lads.
  4. Batch looked to be very much on the pace last night at Scunthorpe and was backed by Kemp and Tate Ziscke and to a lesser extent Jonas, hopefully Worky can get the win tonight to get us off the foot of the table.
  5. Not sure really , Redcar always do well at Workington and have won there for the past three occasions I believe but Workington usually keep it close at Redcar only going down 46-44 in July. I think our best chance would be at Scunthorpe but it will not be easy....interesting few days ahead.
  6. RIP Arthur, rode for Workington in the late 70,s.
  7. Agree but all depends on costings for riders wages etc.
  8. Yes I said used to be, so many clubs could do with other income wether this is from other sports, football , Dirt track, or even festivals.
  9. All clubs could do with extra fans coming through the gates but I think the problems are much greater than not enough fans, the increased cost of everything including insurance, medical cover, shale etc plus riders wages . The overall structure of the League could also help matters with riders DU up or sometimes in three Leagues at times. Which clubs are doing well enough to stand without major help....Poole, Ipswich ? but even these clubs rely on plenty of Sponsors I believe but this is the case now in all sports. Scunthorpe for example get by with having Stock car meetings to off set the Speedway ( i'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) , so stadiums need to be used for other events like the Greyhounds used to be.
  10. This Weekend Workington Speedway host two FIM events in the 125 cc class both events start at 3pm with the gates open at 1:30 pm . Saturday is the FIM Track Racing Youth Gold Trophy and Sunday is the FIM European Track Racing cup final. Come down and support these future world stars and witness some great racing, admission is £15.00 per day or £25.00 for a two day ticket, kids go free.
  11. To be honest the team GB places are open to just about any Brit now with only Lambert guaranteed a place in the team, will Allen go with youth for the future or gamble on Brennan , Ellis etc.
  12. Makes Northampton weaker in my opinion.
  13. Get well soon Tate . A great comeback after Tates crash when the Comets looked to really push on for the win after it looks like Berwick would win the meeting . All the lads chipped in with vital points , Drew and Jonas especially won some good races.
  14. Afraid these changes will come to late for many clubs.
  15. Not looking good for Workington next year.
  16. There must be other tracks in the Championship struggling to survive as well, maybe only Poole making any profit which is not sustainable for the League, Scunthorpe might make a little from the Stock cars so will off set the Speedway maybe?
  17. There is one in a few weeks time along with old bikes etc over two days.
  18. Possibly , practices, flat track, old bike weekends auto jumble etc . Not confirmed about next year but this news does not bode well for 2027.
  19. Not premiership but news not looking good for Workington next year .
