"A month ago, I wouldn't have even thought that Robert would clinch the title. At that point, I would have picked Brady. I’m shocked. The performance in Vojens was crucial, as he scored 8 or 9 points more than Brady and Bartosz there," he notes.Lambert’s championship victory marks the end of the dominance enjoyed not only by Zmarzlik but also by Ryszard Kowalski. Riders using the Polish engineer’s engines had won consecutive titles without interruption from 2018 through 2025—namely Tai Woffinden, Artem Laguta, and the aforementioned Zmarzlik. Now, however, Holloway sits on the throne and has no intention of stepping down. "The goal is clear. Beyond Robert, we also have Daniel Bewley, Patryk Dudek, and Brady Kurtz in our ranks. We are fighting for further titles, and we want gold again next year," - said Ashley Holloway in an interview with the Polish sport daily " Przeglad Sportowy"

Is it known what sort of magic these engine tuners are able to do to a speedway engine? As far as I know they're very simple bits of kit but the likes of Ashley Holloway are able to get more out of them somehow.

I’ve said it elsewhere,Kowalski engines are not cutting it at the moment and Zmarzlik needs to start using ashtek ,loyalty is one thing but he must know he just doesn’t have the speed in his current motors

This would explain the sudden change that occurred over the last couple of years I have been saying BZ was not at his best ( I appreciate that Kurtz and Lambert are excellent riders)to win last year and almost this year is true testament to what an exceptional talent he is .

I am sure many are gleeful at him not winning the title this year and Lambert is a worthy winner no one can blame him for wanting the fastest motors ..

One thing I would like to know is whether BZ poor gating a has anything to do with  him having to adjust engine setup in an  attempt to match the Holloway engines .

Find Riding Gear

So, what do these engine tuners do....do they take a standard engine out of the box and work on it, or is it selected pieces fromvaarious sorces..... or something else????

I don't think they are going to tell us (or anyone). Whatever they do is worth an awful lot of money.

Interesting watching Kurtz at Sheffield on Monday, heat 5 riding the dirt line and was at least quater of a lap infront yet his time was no faster than Carl stonehewer 26 years before and Zack cook’s win in heat 14 was the same time as Chris Morton 47 years ago, so the question is with all the money spent on tuning and engines, is it really worth it ?

95% of speedways power is in the 2 heads, the head on the engine and the head on the riders shoulders, get those 2 heads right and you have a winner, the only real difference in tuning is head porting, cams and internal parts like valves everything else like crank cases etc are just stock  parts

I'm assuming that the riders have no idea what is done to the engines merely that they are tailored to their requirements ,as  Kurtz and Lambert have different riding styles  therefore requiring a different response from the engine .This where I imagine  the tuners earn their money ,you can have all the power in the world but it's being able to tame it to your best advantage plus ideally be able to get out of the gate with straight line speed .

Yes and that individual requirements is basically why a standard out the box engine wouldn’t really work in speedway, it is nothing new, when I was spannering for Adam skornicki he told me at a meeting in Sweden his team mate Jason crump lent him a bike cause adam’s had a problem, he said it was unridable because Adam likes a motor that revs hard but is unreactive and crumpy likes one that is lively and reactive also while at wolves Adam borrowed an engine off Freddie lindgren and didn't like it, riders have different preferences, different cams, different flywheels, what works for one doesn’t work for someone else, also an anomaly that occurs in all motor sport anywhere in the world is no 2 identical engines will ride the same, same batch, same castings, same parts and settings and one will always feel better than the other
