  1. Surely, if Belle Vue cant field a team then Lynn would agree to a postponement . (Seem to remember Poole was given that facility when they were to race against Lakeside some years back). I cant believe meetings like this can ever benefit the sport and any success Lynn may achieve would only be a hollow victory.. anyway. Sure, I would love the Stars to win, but its need to be raced for, not given to them.... Ridiculous situation....

  2. Jordan Stewart was remarkable last night. But please lets keep things in perspective. I'm pleased because I've been saying from day 1 when he wasn't scoring points that I'm watching a Speedway rider (and not some of the pretenders that we've seen here at Redcar in the past), safe, steady & professional. Let's not lumber him with the burden of "the next big thing'' though. Just let him ride! He'll be going to tracks he's never seen before all season long but if he continues to ride safe, steady and professional he'll do ok. Seems like a nice bloke too! Good luck Jordan.

  6. Glasgow enjoying the sarj effect in 2018 . they were warned . he thought he was going double his average and so did everyone else . but it looks like he is only a 3.00 rider all day long .

  8. In turn continuing to damage the top league in order to protect 3 clubs in the lower league. Nothing changes. It had been agreed prior to AGM that Mondays & Thursday's would be Premiership nights. That's why they are the protected days, as requested by BSPA, within the International Speedway League bodies agreement

  9. Decent meeting last night, the best at Swindon so far in terms of racing. Swindon always looked relatively comfortable for the win, but did think throughout that Wolves may nick a league point. Fantastic to see a performance like that from Zach, will do his confidence the world of good. Onwards and upwards

  10. Not confirmed but over £3200 raised at Swindon tonight for Mitch. Looks like the GP pit passes both Cookie & Greg donated went for £1000 a piece. Looks well over £10k raised for Mitch, maybe even closer to £15k.....excellent work from all involved & a special mention must go to Lee Kilby who I spoke too at the abbey, sss still walking round at 9pm...how he was able too I’ve no idea!!!

  11. Good luck. It seems the crucial point is to totally reject Brandon Estates' claim that the site is redundant, that both sports have moved on to alternate venues and that there is no professional interest in running the sports at the stadium. This is where the supporters can make a difference in proving there is still a demand for the sports, that the running of the Bees at Leicester is and can only be a temporary move, rather like Coventry City's enforced short-term move to Northampton, and that there are promotions waiting to take it on. In the case of the stock cars I would imagine there would be quite a queue. Bear in mind for BriSCA stock car racing Brandon is their equivalent of Manchester's NSS and if it is their leverage that is needed then it must be totally embraced. Brandon is one track where speedway and stock cars have shared in harmony for decades. That unity is never more vital than now.

  12. If you could just strip away the politics surrounding the sport , the crazy rules that make it look daft , just watch something like that tonight , and speedway isn' so bad

  16. I am firmly on the Race Jacket side of the argument. It is far, far easier to pick out your own Team's logo on a Race Jacket, whereas the Team Suits are very anonymous and frequently you cannot make out the Logo because of Sponsors names and their logos. I have always felt that way. That is half the problem with Speedway. The Authorities are always fannying about with changing things that aren't important and ignoring things that are.

  18. Its not so much that you state your opinion but that you repeat it over and over and over again - usually with a bit of a dig at Poole included. We all get it - you have a thing about Poole - just try to be a bit more innovative and less repetitive! Better still do us all a favour and just give all the Poole threads a break for a while as you've said all there is to say from your perspective!!

  20. Very true, this meeting is certainly not in the best interests of British speedway, If Kings Lynn (Chapman) didn't cancel against Leicester he certainly wont against us, no doubt he sees it as an opportunity to gain away points, that its not his club losing financially only enhances his opportunity. And this is the man who is Chairman and the person who is supposed to be taking the sport forward? I have always liked Kings Lynn as a club and this would have been a good meeting with two full strength sides, sadly im not paying to watch half a side, the money I save will go towards the Swindon trip on the 31st.

  21. Am I ? the 2016/17 FFP rules allow a Championship club to lose up to £13m per season, the assessment period being 3 years. At least potentially, then, 24 teams x £13m x 3 year = £936m. I maintain that I think that the increasing age factor is overstated. Bearing in mind that in the last 3 seasons I have been to over 200 meetings at every track in the country bar two (Swindon by accident, Stoke by design) I think I can speak from experience. I repeat : I suspect that anyone who went to Redcar last night would say that the title of this thread is absolutely correct.

  22. Fantastic gesture by Craig Cook and by Josh Gudgeon. I can't come near to offering anything quite like that, but I do have four Stenners Annuals (1946, 1949, 1950 and 1952) that I can offer - with the cash going to the fund. I know that they are not massively valuable, and unfortunately, the 1946 and 1949 books both have the covers missing which will obviously devalue them for a collector, but if anyone is interested or knows of anyone who is, perhaps they would contact me via this forum. Anyone who is interested would obviously have the chance to inspect them first and change their minds if necessary.

  23. This whole thing can be rectified very easily in 2019. The Premiership runs on Monday & Thursday. Redcar, Ipswich and Sheffield can also keep their Thursday night but in doing so they lose the priority of rider's signed to Premiership clubs where a fixture takes place on a Thursday. Sorted

  24. No I haven't. I'm merely arguing against those who have. It is usually second division supporters on here who come up with a confrontational attitude between the two leagues, and it is always second division supporters who then accuse supporters of teams in the top flight of having a "them and us" attitude when they try to counteract it. From what I see, it is ALWAYS the opposite, and your posts are a typical example of that. Personally I think you'd quite happily see the first division fail, Rob, just because Swindon are in it.

  26. I know from when I was younger, that Thursday was the night I started going out as the start of the "weekend". It's just more of a "going out" night than a Wednesday. Wednesday is Denmark's night. Monday and Thursdays are the UK's nights. That is the main problem with Wednesday. Look at the problems at King's Lynn. Unfortunately, your attitude is typical of the lower leagues, who, somehow, see themselves as more important than the top league. The top league should sort itself out, and the lower league clubs fit in with that. It's common sense. If Wednesdays were priority for the UK then, sure, ride on Wednesdays. To be honest, we are lucky to have Thursdays ahead of Sweden and Denmark. It should be used. Is there a reason why Ipswich, Sheffield and Redcar could not switch to weekends? Surely a better time for a lower league club.

  27. Sorry I missed you last night , I watched from the balcony at the bar . Stewart looks some prospect , as you say he had a slow start , just our luck to be down when he turns into Ivan Mauger lol . But seriously to be riding the way he did last night after only a month of our speedway , certainly augers well for the future . He was the difference last night .

  30. Wouldn't call it backward thinking, would be highly sensible.. harsh, but sensible. I can't see much happening tbh. They made their bed when they went with Thorssell over Lindgren. It's a team built to win at home and try and pick up a pt or two away and maybe get lucky and catch a team on an off night. They had the chance at Rye and blew it.

  31. You were there so you would have saw first hand, but from our vantage point it doesn't look great . Retiring in most of his races hardly suggests he was on the pace , if you don't perform at your job you would recieve criticism or even jettisoned, so why is James any different incase we offend him, so what if we do he isn't doing his job plain and simple.

  38. So we revert to the problems of doubling-up clashes? It's a big problem either way but I can't see any changes happening until the season is over. Personally I would prefer one big league and any riders missing for continental league engagements only being replaceable by a NL rider, that way promoters might be a bit more careful about who they sign.

  39. Barker again reminds us how he wasted his opportunity with Glasgow in 2016. Just awesome to watch tonight, in amongst some decent racing despite the scoreline. JT improvement clear to see and Lewis Kerr superb again. Sarjeant gets pass marks, just, will say no more.

  42. I too will be giving this farce a miss... However... On here and various other forums we will get several contributors to the threads discussing whom are the best guests... Several will comment that "it will still be good racing".... And come the result, several will comment on how it was either a good result or a bad one, as if it was an actual bona fide sporting contest between two professional sports teams vying for a National Title.. Sometimes, Speedway fans really do get the operating model (and sport) they deserve...

  43. So that's Brennan, Jenkins & Kemp all to be fitted in, presumably along with the current Mountain & Hume. Interesting team restructuring required or just go NL.

  44. Glad to hear that. I do wonder sometimes. Look at the King's Lynn threads if you think Wednesdays are working for the top flight.

  45. Those 3 PL team were quite happy to stuff the PL to suit the CL. So how has nothing changed? The problem is the second division seeing itself as some sort of opposition. Why vote for a night when they know the first division will be against Denmark and some team (not including Swindon, by the way) will lose riders?

  48. Really mate? Not sure I have but always happy to be proved wrong. In fact I called out the KLSSC on Twitter over some of their comments after the Swindon meeting when it clashed with a big play-off game for the Linnets. I choose football over speedway so would be hypocritical of me to then criticise others for doing the same. At the end of the day, it's totally down to the individual whether they choose to attend or not. For what it's worth I quite enjoyed last night's meeting. Wasn't a classic by any means but there were some good races and I'm really warming to this side. At the start of the season I didn't think we were in with a sniff of the play-offs but there are plenty of promising signs and more to come from Iversen, Palm Toft, Jorgensen and Andersen. Best thing for me is that it's a team of real triers, last night chasing hard for every point which after last season is a refreshing change. What I would say is that I totally agree with IainB when he said some of the stuff on this thread has been hysterical. Not everything at Lynn is perfect but I don't think it's half as bad as being made out on here at times. I honestly do think they are making efforts to improve across all areas and things aren't always as black and white as some on here are making out. I know, like and respect many of the Stars posters on here who are at different ends of the spectrum when it comes to Lynn. Sometimes I agree with them, sometimes I don't. You get positive posters who can see no wrong and negative ones who can see no right. I do find the constant slagging off of the club across here, Twitter and Facebook tiresome and that's with people's opinions that I actually agree with at times. There are ways and means of critcising and continually banging the same drum just means people eventually switch off to it. Invariably for me, the truth lies on a scale somewhere in between depending on what the topic is. Taking yesterday's meeting into account: Should the team news be out earlier? - IMHO yes but appreciate that there were things going on behind the scenes regarding the line-up. It should have been communicated better especially as it was common knowledge that riders would be missing. However, if they'd released that Cook was guesting and it was R/R for Palm Toft then it all changed, they'd get criticised for releasing the wrong info. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Should the meeting have been completed quicker? - Again yes but the break for track grading after heat 4 improved the racing in my mind. Track was quite slick early on but they pulled some of the material back down and racing improved straight away. It's also up to the referee to keep things moving. Also as I'm doing twitter updates, I find it hard enough already to tweet the result, any changes for the next heat and have some kind of social interaction with the people I go with as it is, so delays don't bother me. However I appreciate for some, they want to get it done and dusted as soon as possible. Fundamentally all of us want the same but it's nigh on impossible for the club to please everyone all of the time.
