Whats The Thoughts On The New Format After The First Month
Aces51 replied to Gunners's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I like it. There are overall more races involving riders of similar ability and it is just as enjoyable watching the reserve races as the other races. Plainly, with so many EL clubs losing money costs had to be cut. The BSPA deserve credit for coming up with a solution which helps achieves that but also gives British riders the opportunity to gain experience from riding much more regularly, riding against better riders and which provides the opportunity for them to learn from GP and other to riders. Anyone expecting it to produce a world beaters in 12 months time is living in cloud cuckoo land. It will have been worthwhile if in 3 years time we have a couple of riders with real world class potential and a few more with genuine EL heatleader potential. -
Should be a home win for the Aces.

Excellent performance from the Aces. Particularly impressed with Palm-Toft. Neat style and claimed the scalps of Ljung, twice and Hougaard. The reserves also did their job. Neilsen showed he is going to be a good acquisition to the team, Reade was on the pace and just needs to improve his starts. Doyle and perhaps Perry aside Leicester were disappointing. I liked the new format, many more races of riders of similar ability.

Depends if the stock car post is linked to the starting gate position and if moving it affects the refs view of the start line. You could be right though. Who are you going to support tonight? It's good to see Leicester back in the top league. I've got many memories of tight matches at Hyde Road and Blackbird Road, including the infamous track invasion.
-
Not expecting it to be easy. Mads and Doyle can do well at Kirky Lane and so can Patrick. The reserves are also an unknown quantity. If I remember correctly, not easy at my age, the problem with gate 4 is that the stock cars dig it up and put a post in. Perhaps the answer is for Colin Meredith to do the same to the other gates when he is preparing the track, then when he takes them out all the gates will be equal.😁

By historically I mean prior to yesterday. Doctors and Paramedics are like any other profession, there are good, bad and indifferent but in today's culture it would be foolish for any referee to overrule their advice. Can you imagine, a rider dislocates his shoulder, it is popped back in. The medic advises he shouldn't race again but the referee decides otherwise. In his next race it pops out again, he losses control and wipes out another rider with fatal consequences for that other rider. No sensible referee would take that risk faced with professional medical advice, no matter what he as a layman might think about it. Fortunately, many tracks have medics they have used for many years, who understand the sport and it's culture. Unfortunately, with today's health and safety culture it is going to be a potential problem whenever medics unused to the sport are used.
-
Surely the Ellis situation is straightforward. Tracks employ a Doctor or Paramedic. They and only they, have the expertise to decide whether a rider is fit to continue in a meeting. It would be foolish for any referee to allow a rider to continue against such advice, can you imagine the reaction and consequences if he did and the rider suffered further injury which could be attributed in whole or, in part, to the original injury. It is true that historically riders have ridden with all sorts of injuries, including broken limbs but whether we like it or not, I suspect we are likely to get more of the Ellis type decisions as the health and safety culture tightens its grip on everything we do. Oh for the days when individuals took responsibility for their own actions.

First EL meeting for the Aces. Should be a home win but is Andersen going to be fit to guest for Zagar, who will win the reserves battles and will the rain keep away?
-
Zagar explains he only had one bike because his others still in New Zealand and apologises to Aces fans. http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.24448 All credit to him for taking the trouble to do so.

Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium
Aces51 replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Latest update here http://www.bellevueaces.co Still a way to go but another positive step forward. Those concerned about the ongoing costs seem to ignore what the Belle Vue management and others have explained about the income stream the stadium will create from non speedway activities and that the business plan has been approved by respected auditors. -
They always accepted responsibility for the track preparation, it was the very late call off of the ELRC that they put at Horton's door. Let's face it there wouldn't have been anything like the same disaster if it had been called off on the Saturday or even on the Sunday morning. However, the important thing now is that they seem to be working together. The last thing anyone wants to see is the end of speedway at Brandon.

The rain on Tuesday is immaterial. Birmingham said on their website at about 4pm on Wednesday that the track was fine and the meeting would be on, so obviously any rain on Tuesday was not a problem. They must have also known when putting on that information that rain was forecast for 6pm, so why water the track. If they had not done so the 20 minutes rain they had would not have caused the postponement. Even after that rain and the watering apparently most riders thought the match should have gone ahead.
-
I was in the area all day on Wednesday and there was no rain to speak of until after 6pm, which had been forecast. Birmingham's financial difficulties don't come into it. If they have done nothing wrong, no problem, if they have they have only themselves to blame for any financial penalty imposed. If Belle Vue have complained it will be interesting to see how swiftly the SCB swing into action. Is it going to be as quick as they did when the Aces did wrong or, is it going to be the none event we saw with Poole?

Elite Riders Championship - 25/09/2014
Aces51 replied to Woz01's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Doesn't the Stadium press release give an explanation of where the blame lies for the late call off. So far as I know there has not been a detailed response to that statement. That doesn't necessarily make it true but I know what I would do if someone was wrongly blaming me for a causing a similar situation. -
Birmingham will be an entirely different proposition at home to their performance at Wolverhampton. Both sets of reserves are the unknown quantity but I think the Aces can start with a win.

I sincerely hope this isn't the end for the Bees. I don't see why it has to be. Horton said he will not allow the Bees to race at Brandon until the track is prepared properly and the statement on behalf of the stadium owners confirms they intend to do exactly that. Their statement also seems to confirm that Sandhu is still the owner. We now have two sides of the story and it is a question of deciding who you wish to believe. At the moment I find today's statement more convincing but will await any further information and the BSPA investigation. Yes, the BSPA has overall responsibility but realistically it seems at the moment that the blame lies either with Horton or, the stadium owner. They each blame the other but neither is trying to implicate anyone else. -
I think you might be in for a shock. :-)

Poole V Swindon 30 September 2013 Second Leg
Aces51 replied to Vincent Vega's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Must be true then. I have always had respect for Cook but it was disappointing that he failed to condemn the cancelled meeting particularly following the ruling from the BSPA that Poole should revert to their original 1-7. The bottom line is that the published regulations do not allow a meeting to be cancelled simply because it does not suit the promoters team building plans or, committed expenditure. Poole were aware of the risks they were taking when committing themselves to the apparent 20k cost of signing TJH and Pawlicki. How many times does it have to be explained so that some Poole die hards can grasp why so many are disgusted by the lack of action from the SCB. -
It wasn't good for Belle Vue when Bjerre was injured in 2005 but rules should be applied consistently. We had to get on with it and lost the final as a result.
-
Ulrich already d/u at Belle Vue. It's not going to be easy but Fricke and Tully showed how good they can be at Monmore Green. I would prefer either of them to Risager.
-
Hope none of the guests make the difference between winning and losing otherwise some Wolves supporters will be claiming it was not a Wolves win.
-
What bad luck for Jacob and Wolves. He will not be easy to replace, particularly at home where he has improved so much this year. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Small Request From Russian Friends
Aces51 replied to Alex Krokhin's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
A bit harsh to tar every Russian with the same brush particularly as the poster said, if it doesn't break the law and your conscience.
