Argos 262 Posted August 31, 2017 The state the sport is in at the moment it's very fortunate that it has such an Excellent Publication, other sports I follow have nothing so good, How thay continued to produce such a Publication when there circulation must have plummeted is a mystery, and NO I'm not a relative of Mr Rising
Gemini 4,894 Posted August 31, 2017 I have bought Speedway Star since the sixties and now have it on subscription. Received my renewal letter this week and am seriously thinking whether I should bother. Will the sport in this country survive another twelve months? Try 6 months instead of 12. Speedway should survive the Winter.
Bellers101 347 Posted August 31, 2017 Yet Chapman wants guests for all absentees next season! Is this man for real? 30+ years I have attended this sport. If he drives another nail into the coffin with this ludicrous idea im finished with it!!!!!
waiheke1 4,295 Posted September 1, 2017 Seriously? I thought one of the few positive changes this year was restriction on these. Open up a few for all it will be a shambles
OveFundinFan 4,141 Posted September 1, 2017 THANKS for the comments ... we do read and appreciate them. You may read the comments from speedways paying public, but from whats been said (ie more guests) its apparent BSPA are not reading. Either not reading or they couldnt care less what the paying public are saying. Just when I was thinking "it cant get any worse", it looks as if it is. Oh dear.
mikebv 10,273 Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) More Guests = Less Credibility.. Less Credibility = Less Fans.. Its a simple equation.. Yet the person in charge of the Sport has a 'better idea'...😨 Wow....😓 Edited September 1, 2017 by mikebv
chunky 6,091 Posted September 1, 2017 Just when I was thinking "it cant get any worse"...See, that is why we have problems; some people will take statements like that as a challenge... The same reason why nothing is "foolproof", as a true fool will always find a way... Steve

Any non Speedway fan coming across a copy would ask themselves why they haven't heard of the Sport, given it must be so popular if their rationale is based on the standard of 'its' magazine... A Professional publication doing its best each week to portray the Sport in the same light... (Which let's be honest, must take some doing)...😮 Edited September 1, 2017 by mikebv

ouch 1,191 Posted September 1, 2017 Do people really have to make a judgment call on spending £2 odd a week reading about the sport they love/like?
uk_martin 1,606 Posted September 1, 2017 In another conversation I had a few days ago, I compared standing up for British Speedway to standing up for British Leyland in the 1970's. However you wanted to tart up and "sell" the Austin Allegro and the Morris Marina, they were just bad cars surrounded by better products in a competitive environment. So hats off to Speedway Star for being the modern day British Leyland Sales Brochure, extoling the positives and making sure that the sport is seen in the best light possible. (Even if some truths don't make it into print)
RobMcCaffery 2,752 Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) I've just read the piece and agree that it clearly sums up the serious problems and I really sympathise with all at Pinegen in what must be very worrying times for a genuine group of people who have worked tirelessly to produce a weekly magazine that quite frankly is far too good for the sport it serves. I can't see many other minor (specialist?) sports getting such professional, weekly coverage and for what is still a bargain price at £3. While some seem to think it's easier to get all that it contains for free online they may be able to get information about their own track but the sport as a whole? You also pay for journalism and editing - checking information rather than the random publication of what is often pure uninformed and unchecked rubbish online. I've got a concern regarding the online subscription though. I subscribe to several magazines away from the sport and the electronic subscriptions are cheaper, yet in the Star's case the online annual sub is £119.99 against £116 for the print version. With this in mind I can understand Pinegen wanting or needing to add content to the online version and I expect that they see more of the sub but this lack of discount is unusual. The online distributor mentions Android access but the only link on the website is to the Apple Store. There is no link to an Android source such as the Google Play Store. There appears to be no option to read the electronic edition on a Windows pc, tablet or laptop. I can understand not being able to buy individual copies but it is probably cutting off a few extra sales rather than pushing people towards longer-term subs. I appreciate that much is in the hands of the online distributor but Exact Editions don't seem to be making it easy or financially tempting to switch to an online sub which I suspect is a handicap that the Star could do without in what I am sure is a battle to survive. I'm proud to have made my minor contributions to the magazine over the years, mainly just match reports, so I do respect the magazine and those who write it and do wish them and the magazine well. Grand Central 2,654 Posted September 2, 2017 (edited) As a correction to the above post. Online version of the Speedway Star works very well on my iPad, laptop and windows PC. Via either the app or at their website. Simples. Edited September 2, 2017 by Grand Central

Via either the app or at their website. Simples. Well it's 'simples' if you are informed that you can use it. Sadly the website doesn't and all the Star ads do is tell you to visit that website. There's mention of web and Android access 'via Exact Editions apps' then sloppily only gives the Apple app link. In any case the significant point is the lack of discount regarding printing and distribution savings in the price. It re-emphasises the point that Exact Editions are doing a lousy job of explaining exactly what services they actually offer. A magazine like the Speedway Star deserves better. Sorry, I avoid adverts so I have no quote from one to close the message with Edited September 3, 2017 by Rob McCaffery

It does represent very good value at the current price and with the plan to add extra pages will add to that. But that is just the opinion of this old duffer. My name? ... Oh yes, J.. R .. Hartley.
