But that’s pure spin- there was pressure - winning and getting 3 more points added. Same for all 4 riders

Yup, plus the pressure of winning the final and therefore the Grand Prix and standing at top of that podium at the end of the night.  If Bellamy thinks riders are happy to sit back in second place in the final, he needs to go back and watch some of the finals from the last few years.

When the Managing Director of BSI is so out of touch with the fan base, maybe a change is required.

My prediction is 2022 ;)

Remind me, is it OneSport taking over?  If so, the European Championship has retained the "every point counts" system.

I'm well up for innovation and evolution. Change is healthy. But this particular change is just change for change's sake. And it's a change that could easily devalue the product...

As opposed to the previous format (which after years of GP tinkering, was the fairest) every race mattered. If say Zmarzlik and Woffinden are going to head to head at the top of the standings, then the heat they clash is a two (or more) pointer. It matters. But if it's just a qualifier towards the semis, they are much less incentivized to race it cut throat and - if they miss the start - settle for safe second or third.  In the scheme of things, it matters less and is - potentially - irrelevant.

Worse still, the new format opens up a greater chance of race fixing. Let's say Woffinden has sailed through his first four heats and has 12 points and is safe as a leading qualifier for the semis going into the last round of heats. Zmarzlik has finished on 8 points is sweating on a place in the semis. Woffinden lines up against three others on 6 or 7 points (non title rivals) in his last heat. I'm sure you can see what I am driving at......

Without every point mattering, Woffinden would actually have less to gain winning his heat than trailing in last and scuppering Zmarzlik's chances.

I just don't think it has been properly thought through and discussed. I get why the FIM - from a distance - might like standardisation, but the onus is on the GP organisers to map out these scenarios and show why it is isn't possible to drive a square peg into a round hole.

Yet, people have a go at our own BSPL(formally BSPA) for changing things up a bit.

Just read the last  8-9 pages & about 85% of it is about the scoring system.

No Eurosport events- not sure if there  will be any sort of tie up with One sport.

Using no names as an example, just a scenario.Someone gets to the semi’s with 7 points another one gets there with 15. 15 man wins his semi, 7 man gets second. In the final. 7 man (now 9 on the night) wins and gets 20 points whilst 15 man (now 18) misses the gate, finishes last and goes home with 14 points!!
Now on what universal planet are the MORONS who think this is a good idea or fair, living on?!....
Speedway is often seen as a joke these days (especially when it comes to British speedway) but the GP’s did use to come across as professional and fair (on the whole) but this farcical change just makes a mockery of the sports elite event.

If they are going to stick with this new points system, then for next year they should think very hard about getting rid of having two semi-finals, and going with seeding the two top scorers direct into the final, and having a race-off for the other two places. Otherwise its leaving things too open for somebody like Freddie going the full 20, or someone like Laguta having his efforts wasted due to a freak occurrence in the semi.

Uhmm...yes...but you said it yourself ....an INDIVIDUAL meeting!!....

If the GP World champion was decided on one night like it used to be, then this system would probably be the best way, but it’s not.
The previous system, if not totally perfect, was not broken, so why break it into a million pieces and just randomly put it back together again which is what it seems the lunatics who are running the asylum have done!

But each GP is an individual (in both senses) meeting - albeit with the scores also counting towards the World Championship.

Boy you are confused

SF 1 1,4,6,7

SF 2 2,3,5,8

All placings after 20 heats - if equal points it`s  done by 1st, 2nd`s 3rd`s and 4th`s - if that can`t split them it`s who beat who.

The 3rd`s in the semi`s get 12 and 11 GP points- who finished higher after 20 heats gets 12

The 4th`s in the semi`s get 10 and 9 GP points and who finished higher after 20 heats gets 10.

Well, according SGP's own Twitter feed they must have got the Semi-Final line-ups wrong... join the confused club

Nothing new- they have a history of getting it wrong. You can’t beat pen and paper and a team manager’s brain !!!

So following this scoring system we now have tyres banned from tonights meeting? Only Anlas being used?

Yeah, it's lucky they had this new scoring format or there might have been a lot more focus on the tyre issue

It'll be interesting to see what they decide to do for tonight.
