King’s Lynn Stars vs Oxford Spires - 18.08.25
Odds On replied to StarBoy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
So the posts on this thread regarding Oxford riders not being paid have little or no credence to them, all of them including Tungate who some on here said he'd walked rode last night and not the slightest bit of evidence to back u[p posts on here. -
Its going to be an interesting winter Birmingham gone, doubts over Leicester, Oxford, Sheffield, that leaves Lynn, Belle Vue and Ipswich as possible starters, anyone moving up would be bonkers the fact the Ford's have no interest speaks volumes. Running with six teams is bad enough I can't really see it being viable with any less than that figure it looks like the day of reckoning is sadly finally here.

Coventry are waiting on the outcome of a compulsory purchase order placed on Brandon. in the Brian Connolly podcast he was very circumspect about it just saying wheels were in motion but he is confident speedway and stocks will return to Brandon. -

Unfortunately Dean I think you are right. The writing is on the wall for the whole of uk speedway. A very sad state of affairs that the sport finds its self in. A shadow of its former self & light years away from the Torun v Wroclaw match on Sunday. I really hope that a way can be found to turn the fortunes but I believe it’s to late.

I was there at 7:00 pm and programmes were sold out. Who would have thought that there would be increased demand for this meeting ?😲 Having said that they were giving out free racecards so kudos for that. I hope every Brummie fan that wanted a programme, got one. As a Wolves fan I'm not too fussed. The West Midlands is now a speedway desert. Who could have imagined that back in the 80's/90's ? Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope in that tracks like Leicester, Oxford and Workington have made a come back. -

We've tried numerous times on here and the Updates site itself to no success those that do volunteer often do it once or twice and then are never seen again. As I said previously I'm no longer involved with the site, So it's up to someone else to sort these things now -
Not the first reliable rider riding for Kings Lynn to do it tho.

Apart from last year.

A loose sold out announcement was an even bigger catastrophe. Not being able to say goodbye to my local club I won’t forget for those responsible. -
Just threaten to close down and they will flock to the last meeting. Birmingham tonight was ‘sold out’ (except it wasn’t according to fans inside the stadium) and people were turned away. I know, I was one of them. Wolves last ever match I’ve never seen a crowd like it as well. it seems the only thing that works.
-
I won't hold that against you! And I do understand where you are coming from. I started going in 1969, and, even though crowds were much bigger than the 2000's, if I read programme notes from back then promoters were bemoaning the large drop off in crowds compared to the 60's and 50's. I'm sure there are many more knowledgeable forum members who could put numbers to it, and when the real decline started
-
Although of course Kings Lynn have form for riders picking riding for them as well. It absolutely is correct. I volunteered for 6 seasons there. Apparently that counts for nothing. Quite a few were locked out with entry refused because it was ‘sold out’. My neighbour came over after the match to say there was room. more incompetency from the club. If only speedway had that problem of actually having full crowds. Buts that’s rarely been the case for any league meeting in many a year. Apparently fans came from all over the UK to visit and no doubt lots of lost fans or last chance viewers came to give it the send off it deserved.
-
Sorry, I wasn't around back then.
-
I’m told it’s not the same guy
-
No excuse for that performance tonight, it was woeful but it kind of didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, the council again proving they are tossers, shutting the doors and turning people away after 1500 fans, saw lots of old faces there tonight, where have you been all year ? Really felt like where do we go from here as a sport ? And at this point I don’t know and I don’t have the faith in the people running it either, it really felt like a funeral tonight and not just for Birmingham speedway
-
Speedway peaked a long time before 2000. The decline started way before that.

He was planning to, but travelling up whilst injured to sit in the pits didn’t take his fancy. Fitting end to watch Andy Grahame take some final laps after the meeting.
