The devil is always in the detail. They finished level on points with Ipswich but I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t have been the case had Ipswich not had a midseason wobble when they went without their two most important riders at the time at 1 and 6 (Doyle and Thompson). They lost a fair few meetings in their absence that I’m sure they wouldn’t have done otherwise. They were racking up cricket scores early doors until the injury curse struck again.

😉 All very predictable. The only chance I could see anyone having a sniff was if Ipswich again ran in to injury problems. At full strength, they’re comfortably the best side in the league simple as that. Great top two, excellent third heatleader in Brennan, and a potent reserve in Thompson. Far too strong.

Game over. Congratulations to Ipswich. Their big guns deliver when it matters. I predicted that they would win over two legs but didn’t expect the Lions to go to Foxhall without a lead. You do not win a two legged tie when losing at home. The reserve imbalance says it all. Three points for the home pair! Kemp’s equipment let him down tonight, but yet again we’re carrying someone who simply cannot beat an opponent if they complete four laps. I’ve defended Joe T for some time but my patience has finally ran out with him and it is clear that he cannot cut it at this level, as even when he traps, he’s passed within a lap.
