  1. Past hour
  2. Redcar 1 to 5 getting some justified stick, but IMO the team manager is getting an easy ride. Our reserves scored 49 out of 89 points over 2 legs and weren’t used enough, IMO. How Jake Allen got 4 rides last night is remarkable. If the two reserves were good enough for a hear 15 each, they are good enough for a heat 13, im sure. 2 good meetings to watch, a bit of everything in it but thank heavens for Redcars 2 reserves.
  3. Far too easy to blame landlords and developers... If crowds were such that the clubs paid £20k+ a night, twenty or so times a season, then a good few number of tracks would still exist I am sure... Let's be honest, crowds of 3,000 to 5,000 each week would have meant much bigger rents could have been afforded, and would also have meant more challlenge to closures from the local communities, given the number of people impacted by them... The first few closures also then gave the optics that the sport was in steep decline, especially given so few challenged the closures due to crowds of 1500 or so, max, which then had the domino effect of further closures as landlords saw no big money coming to them in the future given the dwindling number of meetings the reduced numbers brought. Let's also be honest and say that should Coventry, Swindon, Peterborough, Birmingham and Wolves have still been running, who would have ridden for them?... That's another 35 places to fill with 10 "top level" riders and 15 of tier two HL level to be "competitive"... A six team league, and a seven team league last year, cannot put together more than four teams of the required level, therefore another five would have no chance... Great entertainment, and/or a successful team, can, hopefully, both deliver a sustainable business model which sees that much needed growth...
  4. I think its impossible for him to come back now. He got himself suspended for 28 days, and the trust has gone now. All the talks coming out of camp are a new signing coming in soon. Discussions are taking place and looks like they know who they want. Maybe we'll see a name on the Memorial meeting riders list.
  5. Reason I think Poole will be in the final is because I think the team is good enough to see off Berwick over two legs. Of course there could be an upset but I don’t think there will be. If it’s a Plymouth v Poole final it should be a thriller. Plymouth have King and Nicholls who are excellent around Poole, Barker who on his day can beat anyone, a reserve that was magnificent on his first ever visit. They are no pushovers this season. Pirates normally ride Plymouth very well. So I think a close final in front of two packed crowds.
  6. Having watched the Same video clip of the incident that Mr Hunter came to his decision on, I'm afraid it damages the credibility of the sport to be taken seriously unless the Speedway Control Board (Neil Vatcher perhaps?) do not public comment on this contentious decision. The likes of Football & Rugby, etc already do this, including stating any sanctions imposed on the matchday official where it is deemed a serious error was made. The SCB already publish sanctions on riders, so the same should apply to referees when appropriate?
  7. Much of the reason for fewer clubs is due to stadium owners selling off their venues for development rather than lack of interest in the sport itself. OK one could argue that speedway clubs (BSPL) should have invested in their own stadia - but that is so much easier said than done. As for lack of profitability that imo is as much to do with clubs paying out 'big bucks' for 'star' riders rather than operating at a level that is sustainable. Onwards and upwards - with whatever works for our clubs..... (PS. apologies Berwick fans)
  8. Oxford again showing what a big miss Riss is, Kennett did well considering his time away, could be a useful addition if he wants a full time return. While Riss is missing, we need more from Rowe. Solid display from Workington, all chipping in, outside of Poole, the play offs are there for everybody really.
  9. Seems unlikely Cook will be back, would Klindt fit as a straight replacement if Wright is back soon?
  10. Today
  11. Nasty collision that, hope both riders are fit enough to continue. Kowalski gotta go.
  12. Tapes surely went up quicker on the inside than the outside in heat 2?
  13. I've been fortunate enough to witness several incredible sporting moments, from Argyle beating Liverpool in the FA Cup, Plymouth Albion going to Twickenham in the old Powergen Cup Final, several incredible cricket matches with Somerset... That last night is right up there. But it wasn't just last night, it was 30 heats of speedway, every twist and turn with jeopardy involved. We all hoped the racing would be just as exciting as it was on Friday up in Redcar and the Coliseum delivered. People do enjoy bashing the Plymouth track but the racing across every heat last night was off the charts. Jake Mulford and Jody Scott belying their age and producing fabulous performances. Jason Edwards once again delivering around the Coliseum. Danny King and Scott Nicholls standing up when their club needed it most, Ben Barker leaving everything out there for the cause. Tremendous crowd, fabulous atmosphere and I loved every moment of being on Gladiators TV commentating on that clash. The final will be a brilliant occasion whether it's the Bandits or the old foes the Pirates. Redcar left Devon with nothing but respect last night for playing a huge role in an excellent knockout clash. Fair play to the Bears fans who made the long trip down and added to the crowd noise. The final will be a great reward for Mark, Garry, Barry and everyone involved with Plymouth Speedway for the hard work they are putting in to buck the trend of speedway's popularity in this country. It's alive and kicking in Devon that's for sure but they will not be going for the day out in the final... they want that trophy!
  14. Would be delighted to see Berwick win,it would make for a great final on slightly different tracks
  15. Most people thought Redcar would win as well and look what happened
