Bonkers isn't it and certainly in the UK there's not the money coming in to warrant that kind of expense hence promoters regularly doing anything between 50-100k losses most seasons.

What about Northampton?
YeOldPitGate replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Thats my worry if true Dean taking on two tracks at the same time one of which has no speedway heritage is a massive risk. I really hope if its true they make an outstanding success of it as we would all on here be happy to have eggs on our faces this time next year. I just think whoever it is could end up doing a 100k-200k loss, lose interest and if it is Mayfield Ipswich are back in the melting pot next year and Northampton ends up being never touched again. You read about Leicester who have heritage, had Fricke, but still by all counts losing bucket loads of money (all be it racing on a night that suits the riders not the public doesn't help). -
Makes you wonder how the 8% figure was arrived at and by whom.

Remember Ian nothing happens with speedway until the building is on fire and the roof your standing under is at the point of collapsing on your head. -

It's obvious that anyone considering running Northampton should have spoken to the Forum members here before throwing their money away. They would have put them straight. -

I think that is the less risky route if you can guarantee the rental for even one year. If that was/is the case then a number of former tracks that are idle could become a temporary home for the ‘Nomads’. I am not saying that these are possible or viable but I guess if money talks and the covenant is good, you could have Newcastle, Swindon, Kent and possibly one or two others. Shame about Eastbourne having just watched a banger video featuring racing from Arlington, but it is what it is. Not sure if Iwade could be a possibility. Many others on here would know what if other defunct tracks could be brought back to life with the right incentive and I know Dean has said Wolverhampton is a non starter but with the right offer could they have a re-think. Anyone’s guess but Northampton seems like a a case of a fool and his money will soon be parted. -
As Jamie has stated speedway is very , very different now and with only nine teams, four of which run on a Friday then there are bound to be gaps in Friday night fixtures. The NDL fixtures would have been the gap fillers but it seems they only want to run on weekends now so Middlesbrough have become a Saturday night fixture. I agree about strange decisions but thats the state speedway has got itself in, we all yern for the good old days but thats gone and we just have to accept it. Better occasional, inconsistent speedway than non at all.

Just how do you think that should happen ? They can’t magic up riders , the MDL is only just viable now and constantly fails to fill the teams with four riders. The ‘Powers that be’ need to look at grass routes and get kids on 125’s so that we have a future rider base. -

Hackett replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Exactly - As quoted in the Speedway Star stated costs could vary between £130,000 - £200,000. So before the SCB could even issue a license it would need work on a pits area, changing rooms for riders, removing obstructions and acquiring a foam safety fence. Would be throwing £200k down the drain before the actual losses of a speedway season. -
There must be a few riders retiring if the sixth team doesn't manifest itself.....

I'd take more teams in any league to be honest. Wholly agree that the gap between Development and Championship has narrowed. More riders should be rising up from Development not coming down for what seems like easier rides. Been very poorly managed -

Tapewrecker replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I’ve got my doubts it will be Northampton. Can’t see a club whose not been around before, make a bold venture. -
I think the only way a 6th club would work is to revive a defunct track, like Eastbourne, but of course that track is not possible.

THE DEAN MACHINE replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I was told it’s the same company as taking over Ipswich, could it be a case of they are putting the money up and getting someone else in to run it and maybe the money on offer to run it isn’t a good enough deal to attract a potential management team, with his MotoGP team the GPs and 1 or potentially 2 teams there is no way they could run it themselves, they have been in the GP series 5 minutes and have already cut the riders salaries, it has got to be a case of finances somewhere as both Northampton and the potential buyers both want it, I can’t see anything but failure written all over this, it was going to be a tough sell to the public if it was done back in November but a month before the season and not even the location has been announced, this whole thing smacks of desperation because imo they know they should of tried to make one big league but they dug their heels in for their own self reasons and have now gone too far to back down, I just hope this doesn’t have ramifications for speedway itself if it does backfire -

BTFC LION replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Yes i am aware of them, they also have them at Leicester I was just saying its alot of work needed, with various things, in a short space of time. Track wise it would need someone like Buster to go in and do the initial setting up of the track, I'm sure whoever is thinking about going in there as a speedway promoter has already thought about it all. -

Bald Bloke replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I can't see that working tbh. Im not sure PB would get enough fans to make it pay. Plus if PB was to be the better team, Buster would only have to loose 100 fans, who would rather watch the Panthers, to loose any money he would make by charging rent. To risky imho. -
As Carl Johnson had stated on 360 that Peterborough had been approached. Could it be that Peterborough could run out of Lynn? After all there are minimal restrictions and presumably Buster would earn extra revenue from it. Surely it's far more likely than other options.
-
Surely if a small supermarket could draw 30,000 visits per week from the 33% Asian population of Bradford, then A Speedway team could draw a 60,000 gate from the 60% of white people in Bradford?

When you consider that this topic was started on July the 15th 2025 and that the track that Phil Morris mentioned at the Coventry hearing a number of years ago was thought to be Northampton... you have to wonder what they're faffing about at? 🤔
