A fantastic rider, who had a stellar career... I am sure whatever he does next will be a success at given his incredible drive, resilience, dedication and desire... Maybe the BSP could get him involved in promoting the sport in the UK?.. He is still the one rider many outside of Speedway in the UK will have heard of and could recognise.. And is still young enough to connect with a younger demographic... The greatest British rider ever?... I think his three World Titles cements that accolade.... Good luck to him...

"ThrottleJockeyWay"... (But not at Ipswich)...

Difficult innit... I've asked Gemini and here's what it suggests: Rebranding a sport as unique and historic as speedway is a fascinating challenge. The current name, "Speedway," is classic, but for a modern, casual audience, it doesn't quite scream "500cc bikes with no brakes sliding sideways on dirt." To capture the raw, adrenaline-fueled chaos of the sport while making it sound fresh and futuristic in 2026, here are a few naming angles depending on the vibe you'd want to go for: ### 1. The High-Octane & Extreme Route *If you want to position it alongside extreme sports like X-Games or Red Bull events to pull in a younger crowd:* * **Dirt SPRINT** β Short, punchy, and describes the explosive nature of a 4-lap heat perfectly. * **Apex Slide** β Focuses on the defining, jaw-dropping skill of the sport: backing a bike into a corner sideways at full throttle. * **MotoGrit** or **GritMoto** β A nod to the shale/dirt track surface and the sheer physical toughness required of the riders. ### 2. The Raw & Mechanical Route *Leaning into the unique, stripped-back nature of the machines (no brakes, fixed gear, pure engine):* * **Raw Moto** β Simple, clean, and highlights that this isn't over-engineered Formula 1 or MotoGP; it's just a rider, an engine, and two wheels. * **Brakeless** (or **The Brakeless Series**) β Instantly hooks people who don't know the sport. The absolute first fact anyone learns about speedway that blows their mind is that the bikes have no brakes. Making it the name is a massive marketing tool. * **Oval Shifters** β Sounds mechanical, sleek, and defines the battleground. ### 3. The Futuristic & Corporate Route *If you were trying to completely slick it up for a massive global TV or streaming package:* * **Velocita Oval** β Giving it a European, high-end motorsport flair. * **ShaleX Championship** β Mixing the traditional track surface with a modern "X" factor branding element. * **SGP: Velocity League** β Building on the current Grand Prix initials but making it sound faster and more dynamic. > **The Verdict:** If I were the marketing consultant holding the pen, I'd go with **The Brakeless Series** or **Dirt SPRINT**. They are instant hooks for people scrolling through TV channels or social media feeds who have never seen a meeting before I quite like MotoGrit

Apologies if I've missed this elsewhere... Tai Woffinden has announced his retirement from professional racing. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaplrQmuvK2/?igsh=MWhtam1kYjZvb3Uzaw==

I would hope that the replacement is lined up? Maybe just delaying the announcement for media coverage or maybe the rider canβt start for a few weeks?β¦

That Russian better not be Laguta though another one who's not interested half the time in the UK you would be better off with Rambo Lambo at least the bloke gives 100%, of course if you could get Emil back whole different ball game gives 100% and one of the most exciting riders about.

In the mid 80's and early 90's Lynn's track hosted brilliant racing even though mid 80's we had some truly horrible sides, but now it seems a lot of people think its dire. -

What about yourself ? cigars all round for a home win ? -
Agreed the lack of old hand double uppers in 5-10 years will probably be a big factor in the end game if nothing changes. A great example of what you preach Mike is Lawson I think he it textbook for what a rider in the UK who won't quite reach the top should model himself on as a business plan for themselves recent events aside. Even if it turns out he is at fault as you say due to lack of any alternatives he's bullet proof if Ipswich give him the boot he will be snapped up by another team that have zero better options by the end of the week. In the perfect world we would have two leagues of eight once home and away to get away from seeing the same teams 5-6 times per season. If Poland got more interested in using the UK as a feeder ground and sent the under 24's here we could probably get a top league where ideally every one of the eight top teams have a gp rider , 2-3 under 24 promising youngsters and the other 3-4 team members could be old hands/second strings who could double up in league 2 also with UK youngsters which would give the old hands and youngsters enough meetings in the UK to make a living. I don't know the costs of running a speedway team but don't really get how Bomber with all the meetings he does a year can say he would be better off shelf stacking at Tesco's. The key thing would be 90% ideally would need to be UK based for the whole season we would accept that once the youngsters got decent they would be off but hopefully replaced by a new crop of riders looking to go to Poland later. At least if they were UK based you stand the chance of riding on the best night for getting maximum fans and would avoid the nonsense of going sometimes a month between home meetings. Can you imagine going into dragon's den and saying we have this product that in its rawest form is super exciting but we intend to set it up on an unattractive night of the week for punters, go 2-4 weeks without a home meeting to lessen any chance of building a core fan base in the dryest months of the season, then we will look to hold the real money spinning events in wet months when its freezing, other than that where good to go.

That's what happens when there's loads of Scottish teams π -
The GP's in Manchester must have had circa 3,000 Aces followers there on both nights... They get less than half that for a UK domestic play off qualifier, simply down to a lack of interest in the league competition.. This shows that there is still a decent demand for the sport out there if done properly, and the events have actually something tangible worth winning, which brings interest... As a "team sport", as you say, it does appear to have a restricted shefl life in its current guise (in the UK)... You can't see too many of the current 30 and 40 something's holding down two HL positions in both leagues in five years, or so.... And that truly will leave a huge hole to fill and a huge problem for "team Speedway" (in the UK)..
