It sounds like it was a real nail biter for a while,but Charles Wright is turning into a real good signing, he is scoring good points against everyone. Sunday should be a belter. Great season overall but not enough firepower in the end. Got to remember that our #1 started last season as a 3 point reserve. Wrong. It was bitter on the back straight with the wind whipping in from the M5! A smaller than average crowd tonight witnessed a combative Newcastle side, especially in the early heats. A major shock in heat 1 with Doyley getting 'stuck in traffic' and unable to pass Lewis Kerr who stuck rigidly to the white line in a fine ride, whilst Worrall was gone in the distance. Gracionek's engine failure whilst leading heat 7 kept the scores tight and Newman's off night looked like the writing was on the wall for the Rebels. However, this team definitely ride for each other. From heat 10 onwards, I lost count of the amount of times the Rebels riders looked for each other. Doyley, Morris, Davies, Josh and match winner Wright team rode superbly. To think that Davies has come in for some criticism from some Somerset fans amazes me. He is a born racer. The familiar hunched style, he races for every single point. He knows the line his partner is taking and he rides for the team. Perfect for the engine room of the team. Wright has proved an astute signing and really looks the part. Newcastle to their credit, were up for this. Worrall looked classy early on before fading slightly. Lindgren was inconsistent and Tully just couldn't get off the starts, although he did look quick enough. The Diamonds are definitely weakened without Robson and in my opinion will not have enough to go through now. Track was slick tonight and not as much passing as normal. For the concerned Newcastle fans, Greenwood definitely had 3 rides and looked well off the pace. A couple of amusing things. The war cry for Rebels fans.... most seemed to join in with gusto, and the slippery grass banks on the back straight, which saw numerous people slip over (none were hurt fortunately) but one guy took a pearler but managed to keep his pint of cider upright!! Lots of cheers and slaps on the back from his mates! Priorities, priorities! Newcastle were up for this and came to the OTA with a purpose.. Sloppy gating from the Rebels early on was there downfall along with Engine problems. The Rebels of course have been strong all year but seem to step up a level where needed. However the nature of the beast is that it only takes one bad night at Redcar and it could be all for nought so chins up Diamonds fans it not all over yet.
