mickthemuppet 976 Posted March 5, 2018 Ipswich Witches started the season with a home defeat against Peterborough. Then both teams won at home on Good Friday against Kings Lynn. Next followed an away win at Peterborough and the bonus point. Then came a 45-45 away draw at Belle Vue. a 4 point victory at home to Poole then losing at home to Peterborough again 59-31.They then won their next 8 matches including 5 that were away doubling Belle Vue, Wolverhampton and three wins against Eastbourne. Then a June defeat of Kings Lynnn. Then Scott Nicholls crashed into the Foxhall safety fence and he was out for several weeks with a shoulder injury. Ryan Sullivan guested at Coventry then the next day Chris Louis was involved in a bad crash in Poland So at one time they had only lost 4 of 17 league matches and at that time they were 10/11 with the bookmakers

Ryan Sullivan guested at Coventry then the next day Chris Louis was involved in a bad crash in Poland So at one time they had only lost 4 of 17 league matches and at that time they were 10/11 with the bookmakers They wouldn't have been 10/11 favourites with the bookmakers, since there was an Oxford side who only lost 2 of their first 23 meetings, which is better than losing 4 in 17. Poole were favourites at the start of the season, Oxford took over around mid-May when they smashed Pirates at Wimborne Road and then won at Coventry by ten points 24 hours later. Ipswich had a nice run of wins, the most impressive at Poole, but Oxford always looked more likely champions, and Cheetahs had an unbeaten run of 15 EL matches (14 wins and a draw at Poole) that lasted from the end of April to mid-August. Oxford were probably odds on throughout July and August, but then had a relatively poor finish to the season (Ales Dryml, Todd Witshire, Brian Andersen and Lukas Drmyl were all riding while semi-fit), which enabled Poole and Coventry to catch up. Ipswich would never have been 10/11. Edited March 6, 2018 by lucifer sam
Hilly 172 Posted March 7, 2018 Oxford were clear favourites from mid season, only a relatively poor run towards the end and a good run of results by Poole made it closer than it was. Title secured with an away draw at Ipswich of all places
