Danyon will be 27 next season. These are his stats from the past 6 years in which he's added 2.44 onto his average over that time. I honestly can't see him adding anything to that last figure over the course of the next year.

Season Team M CMA BCMA
2016 Ipswich 6 3.48 4.17
2017 Ipswich 9 4.19 4.65
2018 Ipswich 12 2.94 3.55
2019 Birmingham 5 2.00 2.40
2021 Poole 30 4.70 5.27
2022 Glasgow 25 5.39 6.61

If gets reduced to 38/ 39 guys like danyon on that average I'd imagine be in pretty high demand. My memory was that he was actually better in main body than at reserve, Berwick away immediately comes to mind. I'd gladly take him back

Still, a youngster compared to me sadly.

But regardless I would have Danyon back in a heartbeat.

Would definitely have him back it’s just difficult to keep him on his average. I agree he could likely put another point on next season. But and overseas rider on a 5 or a claus vlissgen on a 5 may prove  more appealing.

Could the Monarchs afford to have  both Sam and Josh with their averages in the team next year?

I know it becomes chequebook speedway but I've always felt the following season's team building average should be set to that of the league winners. Surely making the other teams improve their squad would be better for the sport rather than diluting it.

Bring in a wages limit rather than a points limit and try to obtain some sort of balance.

That way some loyalty can be shown and young fans who have spent pocket money on their favourite rider's merchandise may not see their hero moved on after a season

Reducing the points average would be a joke. Want good standard of rider in the second tier.

100% this they can’t keep chopping and changing they need a long term plan and stick to it.

I understand why they’re doing it, but it’s going to mean fitting Sam and Nick Morris in any team next year very difficult, which is rubbish cause that’s the type of talent we want to see race.

They are number 1 and 5 for Wolves in the Prem, so seems ridiculous to me to have them as top 2 in a Champ team as well!!

Surely Champ should be in-between Prem and NL, but it seems to be really close to the Prem and far away from NL. No wonder NL riders find it difficult to move up successfully.

Yup totally agree but seems a certainty this year it's coming down to 40 at least. The failings of the prem mean the champ has to suffer

For the sake of 10 or so rider who only ride in the PL is it really worth continuing with two leagues.

Yes there may be a shortage of riders if there is only one combined league but look at restructuring the team set up with the two reserves being NDL standard and have their programmed rides solely against each other with a start from each gate.

There are so many ways to improve the sport f only the powers that be would listen

But Sam has been with Edinburgh since about 2014 and has just got better each season. I think some supporters may even have paid his transfer fee.

So why should he have to give that up.

Did Carl Stonehewer not ride in the GPs while he was with Workington?

And Jack Young won the World Championship while an Edinburgh rider in Division 2.

And Ivan Mauger was way too good for the Provincial League in the early sixties.

But they all put bums on seats and opposition supporters were desperate to see their guys come out on top against them.

Edinburgh own the contracts for Sam and Josh Pickering so they shouldn't be deprived of watching them. (Though if they can't get a venue sorted out soon that's what will happen.)

If the likes of Edinburgh are prepared to build a team within the points limit that still fits in the likes of Sam and Josh why should it matter to anyone else?

Presumably part of the thinking is to make the pathway through the leagues smoother? Too big a jump from NL to Champ as it stands.

Lots of NDL riders have moved up. The Thompson Twins, Leon Flint, Dan Gilkes, Jack Thomas, Danyon Hume, Anders Rowe, Jordan Palin, Jordan Jenkins, Jason Edwards, Kyle Bickley, Connor Mountain and a number of others started off in the NDL. Considering it only came into being in 2009 it has done well in its original mission. You also have to remember that not everyone who starts out in speedway will necessarily become a good rider no matter how much experience they get.

Yep exactly. Too many Champ fans want it to be the same standard as the Prem.

Incorrect. We want it to be same level as it's traditionally been. Not watered down because the prems been watered down. They should fix their issues not weaken out league
