Let's not also forget that it was only a few years ago that it was Emil boycotting the SGP!

Don't think he was boycotting them he just did'nt have the finances to compete in them.

I don't care who gets the spots, just glad that the FIM have done the right thing.

Nobody wants to see Smolinski

We have a world champion and bronze medalist who HAVE spoken up against the invasion, and they can’t race because Putin invaded. I get that we have to sanction Russia and teams that represent Russia, but banning individual sportsmen feels wrong to me...

Thankfully there are people in the position to make such decisions who don't think like you.

You do realise that both have had Polish citizenship for years, and reside in Poland...

Boycotting them for money... just semantics, you get my point though.

On their twitter pages just after the invasion. All is not lost for them yet...

''Artem Laguta and Emil Sayfutdinov, No. 1 and No. 3 in the speedway world, could also use this back door. Because both have had Polish citizenship for years, which simplifies their access to the European Union. It would not be a problem for them to obtain the license from an association in the EU.''

Maybe if they did what they need to do to ride in the Polish league and denounce their Russian citizenship they could still ride although the FIM statement already says they cannot. If they become Polish at least Poland might be able to win the SON for once!

Their Polish Passports and Citizenship was gained by Polish Clubs to make it easier to fit into their squads and journeys in and out of Poland for those meetings easier.

Which country do they represent on the International Stage

It doesn't matter that you think te GP is devalued by them not being in it  when unless there's some very radical changes we're on the verge of WW3. The Rest of the World are working on the theory that by preventing Russians taking part in sports and introducing financial/business constraints that the Russians will sort out the Putin problem.

As for Sayfudtinov his best years of being World Champion passed him by while his manager advised him to give the GPs a miss

Sad but the right decision has been made.  Many teams are made up of individual sportsmen as is the Speedway of Nations where these riders if selected would be representing Russia and when riding as individuals at GPs they represent Russia not Poland.  Putin and Russia are not bothered about the innocent adults and children in the Ukraine who are suffering so sports people cannot be given special treatment just because they ride on a Polish licence, for convenience, rather than a Russian licence.

With both being Polish citizens, it will be interesting to see if things change if they acquire a Polish licence...

The following is copied from the Sportowefakty website.

"After the FIM  announced on Saturday afternoon that the licenses of players from Russia and Belarus were suspended , PZM also reacted very quickly . The national federation followed the recommendation of its superior and did not allow any Russian and Belarusian starts in our country until further notice. We were the first to inform about the fact that PZM activists do not intend to apply the reduced tariff to the Russians .

"Due to the illegal armed invasion of Russia on the territory of Ukraine, as well as the fact that this brutal attack is supported by the Belarusian state, the Polish Motor Union excludes until recalling Russian and Belarusian competitors from participating in sports competitions in motor sports organized on Polish territory" - he gave PZM in an official announcement.

The move by PZM is a blow to several Polish clubs, including those competing in PGE Ekstraliga . It means that permission for starts should not be granted, inter alia, Artiom Łaguta  Emil Sajfutdinow  and Grigorij Łaguta ."

Cornerstone of society is that individuals should not face discrimination on gender, race, nationality or religion. Its abhorrent what Putins doing but discriminating and cancelling every Russian national for his actions isnt right. It will be interesting to see where this leads when some of these people go to the ECHR and challenge through the legal system

There is some suggestion they could maybe apply for a Hungarian licence.
