Plymouth Gladiators 2023

Recommended Posts

Our season is over. Time to look ahead to 2023. The crowds have held up on the whole across this season which is good.

Team wise for next season? The starting point should be Bowtell, Gilkes and Morley. From there it’s anyone’s guess. Barker is unbeatable around the Colosseum and if allowed back in the Spring he would presumably keep his place on an average of 8.00 but I won’t add him to the list just yet as we don’t know the plans…

1.

2. Morley - 5.07

3.

4

5.

6. Gilkes - 4.67

7. Bowtell - 4.39

Total Remaining- 27.87

Gilkes may have wunderlust. He surely needs to be setting roots.

Wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't Oxford or Birmingham.

Bowtell and Morley have definitely improved and would be logical in 5th and 6th places in the averages.

Complin or Roynon would make a decent tail, I suspect Lee will be very sought after and elsewhere.

Barker should be a shoe in.

Depends who they might get out of Edinburgh or Leicester.

Richie Worrall seems to like the place. If MPT can get fit he'd make a good 3rd heat leader with Barker.

A decent 4th rider would be key signing, may be Kye Thomson?

R Worrall

B Barker

MPT

Kye Thomson

A Bowtell

 A Roynon

(Morley may not fit if 42 limit. They'd have around 3.67 to play with)

L Complin

Thats why Complin instead of Morley would be a great signing for them.

I think they are planning to drop starting average to 38 or 40

Expect a few Leicester riders with them moving to the premiership

I heard at the KOC meeting v Leicester a month ago that Richie was bound for Plymouth.

A drop to 38 points is being strongly rumoured - to create a bigger gap between 1st and 2nd tier.

It's certainly not staying at 42 but may not be as low as 38, hopefully

This is where the lack of brain cells on the management committee becomes so evident.

10 teams requiring 70 riders I can see 38 or 39 points working

8 teams (no Lions or Monarchs) requires 56 riders.

IF the limit is too low it'll end up with a host of 5 to 7 point riders on the shelf and a host of poor and unprepared riders on 2 points rushed in to fit the limit.

Surely they will need to look at available riders from top to bottom and then reset a limit to match number required with any surplus at the bottom of the average scale not in the middle.

That way you build quality and incentiise those lower down to improve.

You then assess ndl the same way so that those not in CL fill NDL and reduce NDL options for those who've milked it for too long.. Clegg, Morley etc

I guess it depends on the reason why they want a bigger gap? Are they trying to phase out doubling up?

You could either have Kennett at 1 or go with guests
