One Club Foreign Riders?

Recommended Posts

As someone who doesn't sleep too well I set myself little tasks.

I tried to come up with foreign riders who only represented one team (qualifying years being five) during the British League era and came up with the following (I'm sure there must be others?)

New Zealand - Rick Timmo (Oxford)

Norway - Odd Fossengen (Poole)

Sweden - Per Jonsson (Reading)

Denmark - Erik Gundersen (Cradley Heath)

USA - Rick Miller (Coventry)

Poland - Edward Jancarz (Wimbledon)

However I couldn't come up with an Australian?

Can't think of an Aussie at the moment....

Stefan Salomonsson - Wimbledon

Cradley Heath: Gert Handberg (Denmark) 6 seasons and Bruce Penhall (USA) 5 seasons.

A good solid dependable sort of rider.

I'd forgotten Gert Handberg. Tended to get overlooked by his more illustrious compatriots.

I've found several that came up a year short, either just having a four-year British career, or like Zenon Plech, just having one year somewhere else...

Don't know why I came up with the figure five? Just seemed a good starting point! ;)

I've got two Australians - one from Middlesbrough and one from Rye House. Both did five did five seasons.

I know exactly who you mean at Rye! I hadn't gone through all the NL teams yet... Still trying to figure out the one at 'Boro.

EDIT - Got him! It wasn't five consecutive years, that's what screwed me.

I did write him down, but crossed him out as the brief was British League era.

Les Hewitt (Coventry 1949-53) similarly falls by the wayside.
