Ipswich Witches vs Belle Vue Aces (new playoff semi 1st leg) 21/09/23

Bewley quite clearly does not like the track..his scores before that show that.

That's fair enough and clearly a factor but you'd still expect one of the top half a dozen riders in the world to score more than five. He had a modest score in Sweden on Tuesday too, it's pretty clear where his priorities lie this week.

Just got back in...

Crowd seemed decent, not sure how that fits against a normal one but the car park was reasonably well used..

Had to use my key to find my car...:D

Racing was pretty average to be honest but I presume track prep was dictated to by the forecast..

Interesting everyone thought King and Bomber would "love the mud", but there wasnt any, and the track was slick all night...

For the Aces, Dan was involved in four heats that saw a 12 point deficit which isn't really good enough for a top five GP rider, and you would have expected at least two wins from a rider of his talent, even if Emil may end up beating him twice. Two wins off Dan against the other Witches and the deficit could have been 12 points..

The rear end of his bike in the first race looked strange when he did a practice start on the back straight and his mechanics were waiting for him on the home straight as if they were expecting something to happen. He didn't seem to have "Polish Speed" that's for sure...

Brady, Tom and Jaimon can walk away satisfied with their contribution, the other 3 definitely not so...

The Witches were just more aggressive from Heat One and ran out deserving winners...

However, leads like they have can quickly get reduced at the NSS so not over yet...

I must admit, part of me would like to see the Aces lose overall by two, as it would mean a cracking meeting,  and Jack Smiths second tonight then would be the "difference maker"...:D

No one calling for King, Riss and Hawkins to be sacked tonight I notice...;):D

Dan has clearly not done it this year, couldn't believe he scored less than Holder in the cup. Kurtz has outscored him all season, you would have thought he would want to do better for his home club, strange how someone like Musielak always seems pull it all out for Sheffield.

Nonsense

How do you explain Bewley's UK season then?

If he's struggling in Britain then he should be struggling in the GP's and Ekstraliga if it's down to the rider himself because the GP's and Ekstraliga is at a World Class level.

He's only struggling in Britain, The weakest league / competition in his diary therefore it has to be equipment related because their is no other explanation for it.

I don't buy that at all, he'll be wanting to win all the races he's in. No reason for his machinery to be sub-standard with all the money he's making and why would you want to lose races. He's just being beaten. The UK is not as easy as some think.

It's amazing how quickly some fans turn on a rider... and their talisman as well

Looking at his record around Foxhole, he pretty much rode to type

I agree with you about the standard of the BL, it's not as easy as some think, if you look through the Polish teams, yes some are very strong, but others are filled with Danny King types, riders who are pretty useful in their own country.

Bewley being out performed home & away by Kurtz is unacceptable.

Kurtz has been improving each season to be fair to him.

Kurtz has been our best rider for a couple of seasons now, agree about Musielak great rider, reliable and can ride all tracks big or small, will be a big miss for Sheffield.

No point pointing the finger at BV riders. They've had a great season in the whole, but all seven had a poor meeting last night and will be disappointed with their scores.

Track conditions didn't help obviously, and Bewley doesn't seem to like the Foxhall stack, but it's not an excuse the better and more committed team won easily on the night

Over the course of this season Kurtz has scored 3 points more than Bewley

7 points more over the last 20 rolling matches

Kurtz and Brennan weren't poor, they can be proud of their efforts.  We missed Charles and the other 4 just didn't ride to thier level.  No excuses as even with out Charles we should of been good enough to keep it below 10 points.  But that's Speedway, let's see what Monday brings, but realistically its going to be very difficult to pull back 18.

The interesting thing for me is how much Kurtz has improved on the tighter more technical tracks over the last couple of years. There were times not too long ago, when you knew if he went to Monmore or Foxhall, he would be useless and not up for it at all. He hated those type of tracks. He's now applied himself admirably and looks a quality rider at the tighter more technical tracks. Dan last night kept himself safe for the weekend. He always ran mid track where the bike was comfortable to ride.

Looks like he's always been pretty useful around Ippo:

He has improved at Wolves, he was far from "useless" though, except for his first visit, which you could maybe excuse:

ipswich deserved the big lead they have.

Charles was a big miss and it may have counted against you that Ipswich have ridden more recently. The track played a part and probably counted in their favour with the conditions not suiting Belle Vue also Blodorn was poor and you would have been better off with a guest as he may have come back too soon.
