Ben91 1,743 Posted November 17, 2023 Hopefully this seemingly barmy idea works out for Oxford. I can’t see how fans will be able to afford to attend meetings in enough numbers to make all the teams break even. I can’t see how they’ll be able to fit all their fixtures in, especially if the Chargers compete in the full version of the third tier. I also think not using the Cheetah’s name that fans identify with for the Premiership side is an error. I wish them well and want to see speedway thriving. I worry that this could jeopardise a track that so much hard work went into bringing back to the sport however.

It's great news for a club rising from the ashes who clearly has a good and faithful following. But running in all three leagues looks ambitious to say the least.
Hooky 67 Posted November 17, 2023 Got to love all the negativity from people. British speedway supporters are the gift that will keep giving.
StarBoy 207 Posted November 17, 2023 If doubling up still exists which I'm assuming it will... Will Oxford be allowed to use the same riders in both their Spires and Chargers teams?

Please don't take my comments as being negative. I've been to Oxford a few times this year and it's great to see the crowds and feel the atmosphere. I'm just concerned that the promotion may be jeopardizing their future by taking on 3 leagues.
FishersGate 561 Posted November 17, 2023 Huge gamble by oxford but fair play and best of luck to them!

Anyway best of luck to Oxford, brave but I wish them all the best. Gutted not to have my team involved next year.

Col 872 Posted November 17, 2023 The two times I ventured to Cowley last season were by far the biggest two crowds I had witnessed in domestic British speedway since the 90's. But 3 leagues seems too much.

Replace Nicholls in the Premier team with a number 1 and it might work. Would people still pay to watch a championship team though? It's intriguing

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a 4/5 rider overlap

Teromaafan 615 Posted November 17, 2023 Oxford Spires? Where has that come from? in view of the fan demograph, would have thought the ‘Rebels’ name would have been resurrected. Nostalgia….It’s not what it used to be.
