Two points is there anything wrong with riders that aren't going to make the big time just riding in a league for fun and did Perry want a NDL place

Absolutely not, but the new rules mean riders like Luke Crang or Tom Woolley can ride forever in the development league for fun, but riders like Max Clegg & Ben Morley can't.

I actually think the Morley's & Clegg's are needed more, to let the top developing riders know they are ready to step up into the Champ. If you can beat them, you're ready to move up.

Certainly appears so, medals for everyone who turns up.....spectators that is as whats on show will be of little reward.

Few years ago the NL was a viable competitor to the CL, now that has been diluted the NDL has to follow suit, to the point that its almost an unviable product. Can't imagine any club will get gates of more than a couple of hundred this season.

and if a sensible pay structure was used for a ‘development’ league then a few hundred would be just fine, but don’t expect the likes of Clegg, Morley etc to want to ride for expenses only style wages.

There is a sensible pay structure this year.

Well they could have a strict "development" pay structure & still allow Clegg & Morley to race. If they're happy to be a rider / coach for expenses only great, if not - that's fine too, but at least it's their choice.

You might think there is, but do you really believe it’s being adhered too by all the clubs ?

The other thing that hurts pay structure is race days. Weekend racing would open things up to a whole host of hobbyists who would be more willing to participate for expenses. However throw in midweek racing and time off work it takes its toll. The costs of putting a bike on track just with basics are high (tyres, oil, fuel) then other short term consumables (clutch plates, chains). Im not saying wage demands are always justified but NDL clubs are expecting GP equipment for reduced wages.

When you look at how much fun the NL was Cradley Buxton Stoke Mildenhall Kent and the yearly overseas trip to Smallbrooke

I would assume so, most clubs have built / look likely to build teams well below the points limit, you don't do that if winning is your main objective. So why would they pay over the agreed pay structures if just wanting to develop riders?

There isn’t a written rule regarding pay structure but it’s easy to work out which clubs are paying the larger wages, just look at the predicted  finishing order, Edinburgh and Redcar at the bottom and it’s no secret they aren’t paying over the top rates, very sensibly.

Clubs have different outlooks on ‘development’ and winning at all costs. Besides , the SCB might just award you a title anyway like last seasons fiasco.

Scunny definitely not over paying based on what was offered and accepted by us. 10 more meetings is the key for us not money or a league title that really dont mean a great deal

Redcar will be paying alot of travelling expenses to trigger it's a fair old jaunt from Plymouth, obviously if the NDL match is ran as a double header this will negate the cost

No double headers planned and the lad has been very sensible in his deal as he realises the benefit of riding for both Redcar sides. Bearing in mind how many local lads are in the NDL team the club have saved a fair bit anyway.
